Do we have enough?

I was going to post this under "One egg, or two?" as that seemed appropriate, but then I looked at the posts and people are actually talking about eggs -- I thought it was a metaphor! So, I think we need one more egg, preferably a golden one, before we kick off against Manure. And looking at the finances I think we should be able to afford it. We've spent £40M or less on two players (Marco and Chico) and brought in two others for wages (Zab on free; Hart on loan). We cleared a lot of people off the wage bill, sold a few players, sent kids out on loan, and there's still the Payet excess after last season. I feel we still need more depth and more attack and it would be nice to see one or even two players still come in. It hurt to see Iheanacho off to Leicester -- we could have brought him in as well and then we'd be looking pretty good. What do you think?

i think we need a quality playmaker to take some of the weight off of Lanzinis shoulders...he gets injured who is there to open up the opposition?

People are calling for slav to be sacked before the season has even started!!
You dont have to be a rocket scientist to know its shit or bust this season for him, especially with the new additions, but before a ball has been kicked??
Unbelievable, whatever happened to giving someone a fair crack at the whip...

I know it's expecting too much, but yes we need another striker, playmaker for the squad and a defensive midfielder. We needed 2 strikers and a replacement for Payet before the end of the season. We have got 1 striker, maybe arnie can be a fill in playmaker and we bought a defensive midfielder last season sold him and haven't replaced him. Personally I think we need 2 dm playing at once so the rest can all do their attacking bit. I'd also sack bilic and get someone in who can organise this team defensively. I expect him to go sooner than later anyway, as we seem to be in exactly the same position as last year in our preparations. Of course getting to the subject of have we got enough the question is what is enough? If we are talking survival we should already have enough if used correctly.

but like i said to fred who will you replace him with? then i saw that benitez is still not happy at newcastle over the transfer policy and if he walked i would not put it past the board to take swift action and get him in as he was there first choice and all but signed before madrid came in for him.

Something just giving me a hunch that they ARE looking at benetez. He is not getting what he wants at the toon and the board are waiting to strike. They may even be holding money back for him. If benetez leaves tomorrow I just hope I have got enough time to get to the bookies as I expect to to happen that quick. Class manager he maybe but if their board has led him up the garden path he may jump. He may even think he owes us as he had more or less agreed till the big guns came in.

We need an out and out striker pronto ,who have we at present ?,if you take Laurel & Hardy ,Carroll & Sakho out of the equation, Ayew ?hes not a striker .
It seems to be a perennial question for us now ,who goin to get us goals ? Iits guna be the same old shite ,if we manage 0-0 against Manua we ll count ourselves lucky

Hernandez can score goals, MAYBE Martinez can score goals, when fit Carroll and Sakho can score goals. I think Ayew can score goals. I agree that despite appearances this leaves us light-on, because there's a lot of iffiness after Hernandez. But we really only have Lanzini as a creative player. I say this with all due credit to Antonio and Arnautovic: they will create chances, but mostly in the traditional way, getting behind defenses and making a good cross (or going themselves). Only Lanzini has the deft movement and splitting passes to make us look (occasionally) like Arsenal. Two seasons ago Noble seemed to be learning the skill, but I don't recall it last season at all. Not there in Obiang, Kouyate, Snodgrass, Feghouli ... who else am I missing? Maybe two creative players could start all the time, but we need depth in that position.

On the Benitez rumours: I'd love to see that change happen. I wanted to show faith in Slaven, but the pre-season does seem incredibly reminiscent of the last one, from the point of view of strategy and cohesion. And Benitez is a good manager, no doubt about that.
