Who the hell are you!?

So pondering and observing the talk on here about signing a new striker, it’s suddenly struck me, I actually want us to sign someone I’ve never heard of. Bear with me. In recent times anybody we’ve signed with a reputation or expectation has been woeful. Zaza, Evra, Yarmalenko, Arnautovic ( let us down in the end), Joe Hart, Joao Mario, Chicarito, wilshere, Perez, Anderson to name but a few. All with reps. All good players at previous clubs, all came to us and flopped in one way or another. Then take Antonio, Bowen, Soucek, Coufal, Fornals and Dawson. Never heard of them. Some of them I’ve never heard of the clubs they came from. But they’ve all settled and made a starting place their own. So for me you can keep your Danny Ings, Giroud and Josh King’s and give me a “nevererdofya” from some Eastern European league for peanuts. I trust Moyes’ judgement. I trust he will only bring someone in who will add to the team not detract. So if no-ones available, we crack on and pray Antonio stays fit and if not find another way. It’s worked ok till now.

I think the real point here Betty is getting value for money. With established names they come with a cost, their profile is known. Shopping in Eastern Europe and the Championship comes with an element of risk. To date this has worked but there is always the chance of a Hugill or a Byram.

I totally disagree about Ings, I think hes perfect for WH and Moyes. We wont get him, like many he is looking for Champions League footie.

P.S. Arnautovic woeful? Not in my books, second only to Payet as a game changer in recent seasons! 21 goals in 59 appearances and he wasnt even a striker

Agreed about Arnautovic it’s why I caveated with he let us down as a reason he didn’t work out. The thing is with Ings is that he was at a big club and couldn’t cut it. If he goes to Spurs I predict he’ll flop. You’re right some work out and some don’t from Chumps or obscure clubs abroad. But in recent times almost all of the so called big names have been dross

yep, go a long with that, all credit to those in charge of the recent recruits. I would like to think that backroom Chicken and Psycho have had an influence. Lets be clear... If Ings were to move Spudz we all hope he flops :o)

Wasn't he injured a lot at his time with the Bindippers? Probably a bit harsh to judge that time.

Ings would be a great fit,but I doubt he would come to us & the dildos wont stump up decent cash after the Haller disaster!

At Soton, Ings is a big fish in a small pond working for a very good manager it seems. I don't think he'll be jumping ship this Jan at all. But in the summer, thats a different story...But where will he go? Man City I think!

in moyes we have to trust he has done ok up till now ,and i am enjoying the football we are playing at the moment you can almost see an extra spring in the teams steps since le sulk left so leave the so called big names alone and go for, as you put it a "nevererdofya" :-)

I think West Ham thankfully seem to be moving away from previous times of signing well known players looking for one last pay day which is good news, Moyes seems to be buying younger players that are hungry to improve.
My question is are west ham looking to sign a number 1 striker or just back up for Antonio, i know it's all about competition for places but Moyes seems to love Antonio and if Antonio doesn't play up front then where else, does he replace Bowen for example?. Whoever west ham sign it will be the choice of Moyes so he has no excuses if they don't work out, i think Origi at Liverpool would be worth a shout and would fit the style Moyes is looking for.

It’s a good point Chippy. I think you buy the best player you can at the time. It’s a shame because the board could really push on with the team now and who knows where we could finish?
