Stick or Bust?

First of all the headline for the post is not related in any way to Toyah Willcox! :o)

Back to footie...

I think the Liverpool game was a real wake up call for me. It highlighted some weaknesses and confirmed we are some way from being a top four side. The lack of real activity in the transfer window is worrying. No real No 9 in our ranks, which includes the very fragile Antonio, means playing the false No 9 or more than one attacking midfielders prepared to gamble and make the typical Lampard style runs.

This got me thinking that Moyes is in a predicament. Its Stick or Bust time. We have sufficient points on the board to either go full steam experiment with blooding more youth, such as seen in the FA Cup with Afolayan up front or play a more conservative approach pushing for a West Ham record number of Premier League points / position?

I personally prefer the forma. Mainly because I don’t see us finishing in top four with Champions League qualification. The worst that can happen is qualification for the Thursday night Euro Disney League which guarantees injuries on an already insufficient squad and Sunday or Monday football which I personally hate! I would like to see back to Academy basics and build for the future.

Thoughts?

COYI’s and bring on the Villa!!!

I agree with that mate, please give that Afolayan some game time, hes young and hungry. We do have points in the bank to let a few youngsters to have a go...........................You mention Toyahs Bust, mmmm yes, sets the thought for the day!!!!!!!

Was just a blip, looking at their side we all thought we can win this! But they played as well as they have for a long time,we couldnt get out of our half most of the game....I fully expect a big improvement tonight.i agree the young fella deserves another chance or 2,I mean come on he persisted with le sulk for a lot of games! Top 8 would be a really decent finish oh & a cup win! I don't want much! ;)

simple as that:-)..........All i want from tonights game is for Moyes to let the team have a go and not sit back.....it is a tough game but one we can win as easily lose so lets not concede early and have to come from behind lets take the lead and push on....as for Europe Champions league lol it is a pipe dream but the eujoker not interested i mean if we complain about fixture congestion when its just the two domestic cups and the league i would rather give it a miss

Been loaned out, so don't hold out much hope if any other youngster getting any game time especially as he was a player in a position we are in dire straits with. Moyes is always gonna stick, has never had the balls to go for bust. Not even when at money minted Man U.

This is a unique season because of covid, no home advantage, Liverpool lose to Brighton tonight, i really think West Ham are playing better because they don't have the false expectancy of the supporters, the pandemic has been great timing for David Moyes to find his feet without pressure, whereas teams like Sheffield United need a crowd behind them to push them on.
A great season so far and probably the best chance for West Ham to have a good finish, unfortunately the best option up front is an injury prone winger, if he stays fit then who knows what could happen, if he gets injured again then at least it's not a relgation fight!

I think its a high risk strategy Dave, no real No9 but I now trust Moyes. We are clearly no Barca but for years they played with no obvious No9 and had a interlinking top five that seamlessly could telepathically know when to stay forward and when to get back. Recent times, without Aguero, Man City look similar with Jesus or Sterling playing a sort of central attacker role but flexible to move into midfield allowing Foden to over lap. Jesse could play this role with Benny or Bowen.

False expectancy,we want to win, cant see whats false in that, the BOM would be rocking,i for one and thousands of others would be shouting support.

The false expectancy is thinking that we should be winning every game and then giving a torrent of abuse to the 'shit' player, i don't think west ham would be where they are in the league with the fans in the stadium, imagine the neanderthals after losing 4-0 to Toon on the opening day, in my experience of watching West Ham the fans in the stadium are some of the least forgiving in the league.

Where you get that from " we expect to be winning every game'.... in my experience of watching westham it's a case of 'should give your all' ,do that & you won't have the fans on your back

"Should give your all" and this season that is exactly what we are getting probably thanks to Moyes, Chicken and Psycho!

No one goes to the BoM not wanting to see us win. Yes, its been toxic on occasions but so was Uppers when we were poor. I agree, with the results and spirit of the team at the moment the BoM would be bouncing and I just wish we were there!!!
