Know this is not a where are they now post this is a those who don't read history are doomed to repeat it.....and i have a terrible feeling that is what will happen to us this coming season.

Boys of 86 a great set of lads and a starting line up good enough for anyone in the league but get an injury and suddenly like a house of cards it all starts to collapse...so did the club build on what was the best season in living memory? we all no they didn't finished 15th the following season...season after that 16th followed by the inevitable relegation the next season....all because Cearns couldn't or wouldn't build on the progress made in 86...Best players ended up being sold club going nowhere.

Here we are 35years later after another of the greatest seasons in our clubs history and does anything look or sound familiar? Moyes has done a terrific job at transforming our club so quickly but now he is running into the problems all the previous managers have done and that is in a certain Mr Sullivan....this man claims to of saved our club and all the rest of the speel he and his cohorts come out with but season in season out and until 2023 has gone and he can sell the club without paying a penny back we are stuck with him and so our great club will once again stumble to a midtable at best finish which will see any of our decent players sold next summer and then he will try and keep us in the division with as little spent on the squad as possible in order to sell it the following year.

Instead of grasping the nettle and prepare to push on and improve a very good first eleven we tuck our tail between our legs and trot off blaming anything and everybody else except themselves for the failings i fear to come as soon as the injuries start to pile up as they do at our club.

we did manage to keep Tony Cottee and Frank McAvennie for another season. Both saw a drop in form and left shortly after. I was always impressed with Frank McAvennie, his contract had a clause that if Celtic came knocking he would be aloud to move and John Lyall kept his word and sanctioned the move, which by the way Frank took a pay cut ... couldnt imagine that today!!!

If i remember correctly. We tried to buy Dixon from Chelsea & Harford from Luton when Cottee left but neither wanted to come. We could not even get Darren Bent years later & he had more clubs than Jack Nicklaus
