My local team and they are doing marvelously in there first league campaign...last weekend i went and saw them play a tremendous game of football against Port vale a real humdinger of a game that Sutton won 4-3 with literally the last kick of the game.

After a week where the barcodes were taken over and are now the Richest club in the world and will buy anything that moves it was refreshing to see two sides play a great game of football where small budgets and living by your means are a must and so you see sides getting the most out of the players they have because they cannot go for and instant fix...4000 souls saw a game that would put a lot of the prem/championship matches to shame.

Funny you both should say that, but I've lived in Southend for 10 years & the local side are a joke! Back to back relegations & now are in danger of relegation from the national league!! You want to see my neighbours faces on a Saturday evening especially after I've told them you need to support a proper team like the Mighty Hammers!!

but I think the town of Southend traditionally had a good Hammers following? Wasn't there a club shop in the past?

The old East End traditions of being a Hammer I feel are no longer. A mate of mine recons the "real" fans are from Hornchurch... discuss :o)

Gone now, funnily enough a spuds shop was put in place sometime after & that shut in 6 months!! My best mate is a spud & for his 60th I actually went in there & bought him a shirt...I know a cardinal sin,I had to wear gloves to pick it up & am still traumatised to this day!! ;) loads of westham in Southend & all surrounding towns, basildon Thurrock & up to Hornchurch/ romford

sad to see Southend in the news for all the wrong reasons with the murder of Sir David Amess. He was one of our own, a Hammer and ex St Bons boy, may he rest in peace

I was actually working on a house a stones throw from where it happened, heard it on the news none of us could believe it,a really quiet part of Leigh on sea.Whatever one's political views, this is madness...like you say plaistow born, loved Basildon then southend where he represented both for nearly 40 years.Did a lot of things people didn't know about, animal rights, disability rights & anyone in financial need could always call upon him to do his bit! R.I.P David Amess

The world is a very strange place. Agree about what ever your politics this was a really sick act. delighted that Southend has City status and hope that this improves the fortunes for the people in the area and a great legacy for Sir David, May he rest in peace.

5-1 and we started a goal down , second replay after a 0-0 and 1-1 draw! If my memory serves me Ray Stewart netted a penalty as well that night. Also it poured down during the match, got well soaked that night!

Fair play to you bike ,its lovely to see such humility especially on that level .
Talking about putting prem clubs to shame i watched Watford v the hub caps today ,Watford should hold their heads in shame, talk about rolling over ,surley the gap isnt that huge.
