The Manager Rumour Mill

Maurizio Sarri, Will Still, Jose Mourhino, Julen Lopetegui, Hansi Flick and the latest, Ruben Amorim, a few I may have missed altogether have all been touted as Moyes replacement even though it is not yet guaranteed that Moyes is even leaving.
We will all have opinions on who would be best for the job, we will all have our personal choice for the job. Mine would be Tomas Franks, Potter for some weird, obscure reason would seemingly be a .Orgs popular choice but I think there is going to be one issue we should all think about. How much time are we going to give a new manager ( or even Moyes possibly) next season to get things rocking and rollling?
There is a massive rebuild job to be done with this squad and we should be expecting a player revolving door this summer. Presumably a new back room staff as well so it would probably be realistic to see a new season of just finding our feet which could well be grim to watch.
The new West Ham fans seemingly are different to the Hammers fans I grew up with from the early 60's and seem to be more impatient and demanding of instant success and much money laundering, whereas I was happy to support my local club, happy with the football, the occasional glory nights and bloodying a few noses along the way. Just wondered how you guys feel about giving a new guy time although I'll admit here and now, if Potter gets in I'll be on his case from day one.

I think Potter would be a good fit. He worked wonders at Brighton and played good attacking football. He was unfortunate at Chelsea. He was undermined by a Chairman playing Football Manager. Given time and guidance by Tim Stieden Potter could be a success.
We are not far of being a top 6 team even now despite the squad being shattered through Moyes choice to add no depth.

to try and placate the fans but we all know none of them will be the one we all know it will be someone like Avram Grant if not the man himself! personally i think the Tea Lady is in with a shout.

But where you are right is how long do you give the new man/woman/trans/non binary to bed in and here is where it gets sticky.....the state of the squad Moyes leaves will take at least three windows to get it looking like a team again and with so many incoming next season it will be tough and as fans we have to be prepared to wait and see the green shoots of recovery before turning on the manager.

Look at the spuds they are or were over the moon with big flange but the snipings started no cups chumps league looking unlikely and now moaning that he only plays one way and they need to do something else and thats all inside a season.

So whoever steps up to take the job on the club need to be honest with them regarding their role and who is in charge of player deals.....whilst the idea of Steiden having Carte Blanche on transfer deals is new i would expect the manager to have a say as to what type of player he needs for the team and how he wants to play otherwise we will have a big mess and probably bigger than the current one.

So i will be surprised if new manager is announced in May and i expect us to be fannying about for most of the summer afterall its Sullivan&Brady its what they do

Just as long as the new Manager is not as old and wrinkly as Mother Theresa's ballsack. I guess it will be an improvement!!

... than Sullivan (& Gold). I think Moyes is on a middle of the road Prem Manager salary, around £4m / year, just behind Ange at Spudz and light years away from Pep.

Interesting to note today that according to the media we are now being linked with Championship managers like Kieran McKenna, lets see, Im still not convinced hes going, Sullivan & Brady love him!

Loved Big Sam. Unfortunately ( or fortunately, depending on which side of the fence you sat) fan power won the day.
All very well being linked with championship managers but do you know what, Id love to go back to the days of pinching players of the MacDougall, Jennings, Taylor, Cross, Alan Taylor, Derek Hales, Keith Robsons, Marlon Harewoods regime as opposed to the Tevez's, Payets, Arnautovics just looking for the next dollar. We related to them. And the best one at the moment, Bowen. Not Paqueta

DH, I think we agree to disagree particularly Allardyce, no time for him or his brand of football and still has a chip on his shoulder regarding West Ham... sorry, not on my Christmas card list :o)

Those were lovely times with some of the names you mentioned from the Championship, they were different times, the gap in quality from the old 2nd Divion to the 1st was never really that great, you could afford to take a punt on a prospect. Im not sure some of the names mentioned were a great success. Derek Hales, my god, I knew this guy, complete headcase and I think we got him from a disastrous spell at Derby in 1st Div? His record, albeit short, was good so no idea why he returned to Charlton. Had a good rapport with John No Goals Radford. I think Ted Mac also came from Div 1 having also failed at Man U? I loved Tevez, Payet and Arnie because they were game changers. We can agree on Bowen, every time V Glamour Puss but again because he's a game changer!

Take your point about Allardyce and his brand of football (which I personally feel was somewhat better than todays incumbents style), but to put into context one has to take into consideration the money and players both managers had at their disposal.
A big point I have to say is that I think Sams achievement in gaining promotion (over 48 games) vastly overshadows Moyes Conference Cup win especially when one takes into consideration the quality of the opposition.
To be honest when I think of some of the previous managers we've employed, Macari, Curbishley, Roeder, Grant, Zola, Bilic, none of them really delivered decent football never mind playing The West Ham Way. The only one who had any semblance maybe of buying into it would maybe be Pards although I do often wonder how Pellegrinis term would have fared had Fabs not gotten that horrendous injury which let in Roberto who he stupidly persisted with.
Its a funny old game now, nowhere near as entertaining as what I grew up with. I watched the City / Real Madrid second leg and that game bored the living daylights out of me and look at the players City have at their disposal. That said, I'd take the George Bests, Frank Worthingtons, Rodney Marshes, Stan Bowles, Alan Devonshire or Brooking of those days over any player currently playing in the Premier League today

The value of promotion means looking at in excess of £200 million in revenue rising to double that if the club manage to avoid going straight back down again. Even relegation gets parachute payments with an average of £33million.
That compared to a £5 million "Euro" final win sort of puts the whole thing in perspective. Even the monies attained from thegroup and knockout stages barely cover the expenses of playing those games especially the away games with gates of 5 or 6000 and not one sellout home European fixture
So yeah, you hahahaaaa away at the joy of a win in a third rate competition.

Im always telling my (very few) non West Ham friends how proud we were to win the play off final............... :o)

I do remind any Gooners that we have won as many European trophies as they have... Oh, and naturally remind all of them we won the World Cup ;o)

I think Allardyce was VERY fortunate the year we went up. You have to remember we were favourites that year to go up and we got in the play offs by the skin of our teeth. I thought we were also lucky in the playoff final as IMO Blackpool were the better team on the day.

I would agree with the list of managers you quote but would question Bilic, I thought our last season at UP we were great, played a good brand of open football and should have finished higher but just seemed to run out of steam.

Pards had his moments but I also recall being one of the mugs that went to Chesterfield, a league 1 side, to see us dumped out of the league cup 2-1... very humiliating! Only bright note was the first time I heard "oh Christian Dailly, you are the love of my life" :o)

I love the fact on an awayday you can regularly hear the Christian Dailly song to this day. Sometimes followed by "Oi big boy, whats your name" always a personal favourite!!!

Must agree with Dartford, our last season at Upton Park with Bilic was a good season and the football was good,i expected that to continue to the BOM but the ground lived up to its name so early on,and it didnt happen,i liked Bilic, and sad he didnt contunue,Pelligrini one of the worst we had awful football all over the place.

By the continuous Super Slav chants and never thought he was a good appointment which unfortunately turned out to be prophetic. Such was the delight that Sam had gone that it's probably largely forgotten that the last season at Upton Park wasn't all that great. The one shining light in that season would be Dimitri Payet who slotted into the team that Bilic inherited from Sam and also the fact that it was The Boleyn Grounds final season also tends to warp the memories somewhat.
The woeful signings by Bilic, Gokhan Tore, Zaza Simone and Nordveit spring to mind as slowly he disassembled the foundations laid were to be his downfall, not the Bowl of Misery. Look at him at WBA or at Watford. Didn't last five minutes, even couldn't hack it at some obscure Chinese club and is now wallowing in Saudi Arabia alongside other top managers such as Gerrard. Sorry, but those were rose tinted glasses memories, totally out of his depth and left a squad that needed rebuilding. Again.
