Not sure West Ham and it's environment would have helped him forward much, won't be as much pressure on him at Reading. I wsh him well but I reckon he will disappear into obscurity, same as Mubama, Perkins, Ashby, Longello etc. and other Academy players some of the fans went into raptures about. I still think we put too much store on our Academy , the last decent genuine Academy player to make a truly succesful career would be Glen Johnson back in 2000? I don't count Rice as he was a Chelsea reject.

The point of the academy
has moved on from being the supply line to the first 11 to being a money spinner.
The Chelsea model is seen as the ideal, develop a player for the square root of nothing and sell for millions.

What you would call it, spending 7 years at Chelsea from the age of seven and then being told you're no longer required because too small and lack of coordination if it's not rejection.
Funny thing the "lack of coordination". One can always pick Rice out on a football match because he doesn't run, walk or look like the ideal idea of a footballer. Reminds me a lot of Peter Crouch or Paolo Wanchope, Neither needed a shirt number or name on the shirt to pick them out
