27 year old Paul Onuachu is currently the Belgian Pro League Player of the Year, rumours were rife following his omission from the match day squad against KV Oostende on July the 30th that he was on his way out of the club, with West Ham United being ONE of his preferred destinations.

Onuachu had been criticised for playing at a level below what people were used to seeing in his first two matches of the season against Club Brugge and Standard Liege, but scored against Shakhtar Donetsk in Genk's third game of the season.

The towering striker would be a more than decent signing for David Moyes, wages are not thought to be a problem, the only stumbling block and there always is one regarding West Ham transfers, is the €30 Million that Genk are seeking for their player.

Pre-Covid that figure would have been a bargain, but money is tight throughout Europe so Genk have hardly had club's breaking down their door to do deal. In the current circumstances €30 Million is pushing it a bit, especially for a player untried at the very top level.

At an impressive 6'7" tall, Onuachu would be a tremendous threat for corners and free kicks, especially bearing in mind that West Ham are the Barclays Premier League's top scorers from dead ball situations. If a deal can be done at a more reasonable fee, say €20 Million, then perhaps the move could be on.

Beggars cannot be choosers, in fact we are not sure if West Ham even qualifies for Beggar status, but the club CANNOT afford to go into the new season with just Michail Antonio and his vengeful hamstrings to lead the line, it just won't happen. With Big Mick it is a question of when, not if, he will have his customary hamstring injury, the only variance being how long he will be side lined for.

We do try to be positive here at the Org, but that positivity needs sustenance, even just a crumb or two! Come on Moysie, make the best of a bad job, even if it means lowering your high standards just a little, because as you are probably growing to know, the Hammers injury curse hasn't gone away, it was just recovering.

With the added European fixtures in addition to the three domestic competitions, the need for some strength in depth is even more critical than it was last season, if only there had been ore or two extra players the club would have qualified for the Champions League instead of the Europa League- Ed
