Having just been acquainted with the weird and wonderful world that is West Ham United, new signing Said Benrahma's standing has been boosted before he even kicks a ball! Hammers fans have always appreciated a 'trier', not only that though, fans also expect their players to have off field qualities, and Benrahma hasn't disappointed.
There was a massive amount of media coverage regarding payments owed by Brentford to the player, and this issue looked at one time to have put a kibosh on the deal. The situation unleashed a torrent of 'greedy footballers and their agents diatribe, and as such it just seemed like yet another Barclays Premier League financially driven tabloid filler.
However for once the outcome was far more spectacular than a few newspaper back page headlines destined for the chip shop, contrary to the common modus operandi of today's mercenary' elite players, Said Benrahma's 'loyalty' bonus that he and his agent fought so vehemently for has ended up in a surprising destination.
Having achieved recognition that the payment was indeed due, Benrahma instantly asked for the payment to which he was his due be paid to members of staff at Brentford who were facing hardship as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, this action was taken before it became in the public domain and says an awful lot about the player.
Hammers fans who may have been sitting on the fence regarding the signing of Said Benrahma, will at least be assured that the club have signed a Man, not a spoiled brat, and as such should feel admiration and appreciation of his qualities off the pitch , and hopefully on it as well!
David Moyes is assembling a squad of 'lean mean' players, young and hungry (with the exception of 'Les Dawson') with a desire to be a team without 'I's', said Benrahma looks like he will slot straight in to the squad and definitely has the right attitude combined with being altruistic and a well meaning young family man.
Benrahma's actions speak louder than words, it's the mark of a man. - Ed
