Why Does There Always Have To Be A Scapegoat?

Due to the 'saturated' media coverage that now encompasses West Ham, particularly since the club has appeared in Europe three years on the spin. There appears to be a growing tendency for certain outlets to insist on having a scapegoat in the team.

Last season it was Tomy Soucek, he received pelters from all and sundry as his forward role was sacrificed in order to keep Declan Rice happy. This season Thilo Kherer has become the latest player in the cross hairs, as has Pablo Fornals. Both players give their all when called upon but are unable to get as much game time as they would like. This is the result of David Moyes finally having a 'proper' squad!

A quick glance at the Hammers bench this season compared to a few seasons ago shows just how far the club has come. With the progress made there will be the inevitable fall out of players not featuring as much as they used to, but that is how 'big clubs' are!

Fans obviously have their own opinions and are entitled to 'have a go' when they think a player isn't putting in a shift, but the widespread and unfair criticism being levelled at some of the clubs 'fringe' players is counter productive and seems as if it is generally for the good of media outlets who want a bit of dirt to be connected with the club.

Hammers fans are neither blind nor stupid when it comes to appraising their players and most would suggest that others not directly associated with the club should "shut their mouths". Give players a chance before trying to drag them down should be the order of the day, a sentiment felt by the vast majority of the Hammers faithful.

It is an inverted compliment that West Ham have become a target for the media boo boys, hopefully they will find some other club to spread their poison about sooner rather than later! - Ed

Is it a conspiracy that West Ham aren't seen as media darlings and are now seen as party poopers getting in the way of the big boys in overachieving?
Although it has gotten worse over time, I believe that the media have always had their hooks into West Ham as a club and we have some way to go before that ever changes.
After all, it is ALL about "Hits and Clicks" and Bad News Sells...
These days I instantly dismiss news on West Ham based solely on the "Shock Factor" headlines, whether on YouTube or news feeds.
I come from a different time and trust what I see and what makes sense.

Has not done a lot to convince me as a Premier League defender. That's not me making him a scapegoat, just an observation that he doesn't quite impress me.
Same goes for Aguerd. He seems to have taken a few steps back from what I saw in the World Cup, whether that is because of the pre season injury he sustained or not, I don't know but he reminds me of James Tomkins. You just know he is a mistake waiting to happen.
I've always sympathised with Soucek as he was the player sacrificed in the keep Rice happy situation which as we all know never worked out. Rice is now at Arsenal as an attacking midfielder and has only one goal to his name and no assists, proof to me that it was mistake which could have cost Soucek dearly but he never gave up, never moaned.
I sympathise too with Fornals, a player who much reminds me of Patsy Holland or Bobby Howe inasmuch as they did all the donkey work but not much in the way of credit. Sad to say though he has been sacrificed for Paqueta, which will create an interesting scenario. Fornals will go and you can bet your bottom dollar Paqueta ain't gonna be hanging around either.

Problem is Dave, that Fornals is supposed to be an attacker. all this about donkey work, well its needed but not up that end of the pitch, its more assists and goals needed.

Indeed, Fornals for instance, is loved at the BOM purely because he gives everything whenever he's called upon.

Pacqueta, by contrast who is shining at present. Needs to cut the play acting out and quick it's fast becoming ridiculous. Not to mention embarrassing.

Yes I'd like to see Fornals stay here. As you say he really has an affinity for the club, is still an asset. He will play anywhere he's asked and give his all. Paqueta is purely passing through and playing for his shop window portfolio. Of which we are benefiting at present..
