West Ham United Vs Manchester City Barclays Asia Trophy

Hammers take on Manuel Pellegrini's nemesis Manchester City this lunch time in their first fixture of the Premier League Asian Trophy that is being payed at the strangely named Nanjing Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium (capacity 14,000). City are favourites to be outright winners of the competition that also features Newcastle and Wolves, however the Citizens will feel the footballing gods are against them due to their flight from the UK being delayed TWICE!

Before Hammers fans get their hopes up, it should be remembered what strength in depth City have, and a bit of jet lag isn't going to put them off too much, after all, a first class private plane is hardly an arduous experience when compared with 'steerage' for the proles. The match kicks off at 13:30 Hrs BST , 20:30 Hrs local time and will be shown on Sky, Espn and various other media platforms and streams.

We will have all the team news as soon as it is available for this relatively low key fixture, which will follow the match between manager less Newcastle and Wolves that is scheduled to start at 11:00Hrs BST. While much of the media attention regarding West Ham has been in relation to the Haller/Gomez on off transfers this match is vitally important for several Hammers players who are on the cusp of 'the great Pelle and Huse cull' that has 'stalked' the squad of late.

West Ham United squad: Antonio, Cresswell, Cullen, Diangana, Diop, Felipe Anderson, Fredericks, Chicharito, Fabianski, Johnson, Lanzini, Martin, Noble, Obiang, Ogbonna, Reid, Rice, Roberto, Sanchez, Snodgrass, Wilshere, Yarmolenko, Zabaleta

Considering the size of China, a 15,000 capacity stadium/sports centre doesn't seem a very high profile venue does it? It's not much bigger than Orient's Brisbane Road, at least the final will be played on Saturday 20th of July at the Hongkou Football Stadium, Shanghai which has a maximum capacity of 33.060, not much bigger than that of Reading's Madejski Stadium - Ed

Sturridge As Back Up Striker - Please No!

Having just got 'the most injury prone forward' in Barclays Premier League history off their books there are rumours that West Ham United want to swap one ex-Liverpool crock for another! Wasn't the 'Andy Carroll Experience' psychedelic enough for the board? Carroll cost the club just shy of £60 Million in wages and fees give or take the odd couple of million, ironically those who sanctioned his purchase had previously highlighted the 'Kieran Dyer' 'shameful experience'!

So given the insurmountable evidence of how unwise signing injury prone players can be, the club sanctioned the signing of Jack Wilshere at the beginning of last season, Doh....now Jack is a wonderful footballer with amazing skills and attitude, unfortunately his body disagrees with that opinion and does it's best to keep him from playing. Now a certain Mr Sullivan wasn't best pleased that his newly appointed manager insisted on giving 'the wheel chair' a three year contract, he was even less well pleased when Jack got himself injured within the first month, essentially and eventually ruling himself out of the entire season save three games at the very end.

Fingers crossed Jack Wilshere can stay fit, if he does he can be a force, if he can't he will go down the familiar AC route and become a farce. Now given the history with Dyer, Carroll and Wilshere, one would think that those who matter when it comes to transfers will have learned from having their fingers well and truly burnt, actually incinerated! So why on this God's earth would anyone, with the possible exception of Talk Shite's Dean Saunders, think that anyone connected with the club would countenance a move to bring Andy Carroll Mk2, in the form of Daniel Sturridge , to West Ham United, even as a back up striker?

If there is any truth in this rumour, perhaps there is some lemming like affliction sweeping through Theydon Bois causing normal people to want to give all their hard earned to ex-Liverpool has beens desperate to avoid falling on hard times, but surely the Sullivan can be for turning? David does love a good bargain, but he has been fleeced relentlessly in the past by the all that glisters syndrome, remember Joe Hart, surely Sully must have learned his lesson by now?

Daniel Sturridge, thanks but no thanks. - Ed

One Hall Of A Deal! A Proper Striker

At the beginning of last season, the Hammers hierarchy knew they had pushed the boat out, laying out close to £100 Million in players acquisitions, but more importantly they engaged a 'proper' title winning manager in the form of Manuel Pellegrini. Despite a woeful start and a dreadful injury list, Pellegrini's team eventually found their feet by playing open exciting football, dare we say 'the West Ham way'. Had it not been for an obdurate Austrian and his complicit brother, the club could have finished seventh in the Barclays Premier League, thereby qualifying for the Europa League, alas it was not to be!

Having acquired a 'proper' manager and virtually rebuilt the team, the club were looking forward to the new season, but then Arnautovic and his brother stuck their elbows out by insisting on kicking up such a fuss that the club were willing to take a massive financial hit just to get rid of the toxicity surrounding the 'Arnie' clan. Arnautovic was never a 'proper' striker, he was 'converted' by David Moyes from being a winger, but eventually turned in to a whinger!

The reason Arnautovic did so well initially was that there was little if any competition to stop him being the main man, Javier Hernandez spent much of the season running around with a scowl on his face despite earning in excess of £140,000 per week, and when he was needed he managed to get a virus that put him out for nearly two months. Jordan Hugill looked like a rabbit staring at head lights, Lucas Perez did something to upset Pellegrini and Andy Carroll surpassed his previous injury stats by only playing three games.

The latter two have since departed, Hammers wasted no time in their pursuit of replacement 'hit men', the Maxi Gomez saga, played out far too much in the media, may have been a ruse and always seemed a bit dodgy, however the player who may have been the main target is on his way to London to have a medical. Eintrecht Frankfurt's Sebastian Haller is a 'proper' striker, the 25 year old Frenchman stands 6'3" tall and 'ripped up' the Bundesliga last season scoring and assisting at will.

It is a 'hall' of a deal that will bring the vastly effective hit man to the London Stadium, the 'undisclosed' total is unclear, however personal terms of £100,000 per week have been agreed over a five year deal. The fee Eintrecht are asking is €45 Million, which added to wages and bonuses equates to an overall commitment from the club in the region of just under an eye watering £100 Million! Or to put that figure in perspective, virtually the same amount as Andy Carroll cost the club once you factor in inflation.

Haller is like a more mobile, but more importantly much fitter, version of Andy Carroll, he can lead the line or bring other players in to the game. He is equally adept with his feet as he is in the air and would represent Hammers first 'proper' striker since as far back as Dean Ashton. At 25 years of age Haller is a good investment, even after three years he will be at his peak and therefore still be very valuable. There is a little bit of a problem with regards to a sell on clause that Eintrecht wanted inserted in the deal, but from what our sources have told us the issue is not insurmountable and was just the German club trying to be a 'little greedy' by all accounts.

We will have all the nitty gritty details later, but make no mistake, this is properly good news for West Ham fans, a proper manager, a proper striker and heaven forbid proper owners? - Ed

West Ham United Preparing Well For The Premier League 2019-20 Season

The weeks leading up to the start of a new Premier League season are always full of anxiety and anticipation. The players, back from their summer vacations, are busy with practices while keeping a watchful eye on the transfers. The clubs are putting in all the efforts to form a team that will take them to the top. The fans, on the other hand, can’t wait to watch their favourite team perform. And as for the punters, they are busy scrutinising the players so that they can make that perfect early wager and capitalise on the listed odds that bookies have out already.

Speaking of bets, it’s a great idea to make the most of the advanced odds that bookmakers are releasing as we speak. With the leader board wiped clean, the cup is for anyone’s taking and while there are favourites, it is worth to take a few early gambles that can prove to be lucrative. Here you can find the best Betfred free bets offers at freebets.co.uk and pick up amazing deals and welcome bonuses that add on to your profit margin by giving you much more to play and earn with, than what you initially invest.

Now, West Ham United is no different from any other Premier League team, and there has been much activity within the club as we near the start of the 2019-2020 season. A tournament loved around the world; West Ham will be looking at a successful year in the league, hoping to make a difference thanks to all the changes that have resulted in a more streamlined team.

The Maxi Gomez Saga
Sometimes drama is not what one looks for, but is something that finds us. Maxi Gomez has been on the watchlist of the club for a while now, and they are more than eager to get the player on their side for this year. West Ham missed out on the January transfer window to get the player, because of which there are also rumours that the Spurs are now playing with the thought of picking up Gomez. While this might just be a tactic on their part to stir up unnecessary issues, the fans await the good news that the player is finally in the team and we can get on with what actually matters, scoring goals and winning matches.
Premier League Predictions
When we look at the complete picture of the Premier League, very much like last year, West Ham is somewhere in the middle when it comes to predicting the winner this time around. Bookmakers have the club at 500/1 odds at present, and this is most likely to change once the team starts performing. It’s also no surprise that last year’s winner, Manchester City, gets the top spot with bookies releasing 4/6 odds for them to win. An astute punter will stick to individual games for West Ham in the beginning, but keep a watchful eye as the team moves up the ladder and make the most of these favourable odds to gain significant earnings.
A Bigger Playing Field
On a slightly different topic, one that would interest the fans a lot more is that West Ham is looking at increasing the size of their beloved stadium. If everything goes according to plan, the team will have the largest stadium in London and the second largest in the country. This will also allow the club to work on a sponsorship deal, not to mention the extra revenue from the 2000 odd seats added to the stadium space. This also means another 2000 fans can now join in to cheer for the team. It’s still early stages, but the plan is in motion, and the prospects look favourable.

latest news is we are seriously considering this but the guy says he wants to stay in Italy? another Gomez deal then? that aside, would he be a good signing, didn't pull any trees at Chelsea. my view is, he's a good player and probably one Pellegrini knows a lot about and if given good service could do well.

Haller And Yedder (again) Next Up On Hammers Striker Wishlist

Despite appearing to have put all their eggs in one basket in their failed pursuit of Celta Vigo's Maxi Gomez, it is inconceivable that Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Husillos do not have a plan (b), a plan (c) or even a plan (z) ! The most recent, and most intriguing name being linked with the Hammers recruitment team is Eintracht Frankfurt's Sebastian Haller, the 25 year old French striker just enjoyed a prolific season in the Bundesliga, scoring on average a goal every other game.

Sebastien Haller is not a cheap alternative, he will cost around £40 Million which Hammers can pay, albeit in instalments! Personal terms shouldn't be much of an issue, however the player will need convincing that a move to the London Stadium will be in his long term interest. Haller's 6'3" frame is ideally suited to the rigours of the Barclays Premier League, his acquisition would go a long way to compensating for the failure to sign Maxi Gomez, indeed many fans see Haller as a better option than Gomez.

Three years after rejecting the chance to sign Ben Yedder Hammers are rumoured to be interested to run the rule over the player again, in the summer of 2016, West Ham made Ben Yedder a target, but both David Sullivan and Slaven Bilic had doubts about his physicality. Given that he is just 5' 7" tall, Yedder was deemed too small, so Instead West Ham decided to sign Simone Zaza, who failed to score a single goal during his time in England.

Since moving from Toulouse to Sevilla, Yedder has excelled in Spain and has just completed an excellent campaign during which he scored 30 goals in all competitions for the La Liga club, taking his total tally to 70 goals in 138 games across three years for Sevilla. The France international is an undoubted goal threat despite his physical limitations, having scored 71 in 174 from Toulouse prior to his move to Spain. The other factor that puts this possible transfer on the back burner is that Yedder is 28 years old, not exactly in keeping with the club's 'buy young' remit.

West Ham United's most successful top flight finish was achieved using two 'light weights' up top, but then again they were Tony Cottee and Frank Mc Avennie, and also the game was played in entirely different circumstances back in the day. Given Pellegrini's propensity of using just one striker, a player of Haller's physical prowess will surely be his preferred option. - Ed
