Danny Drinkwater, who signed from Leicester in a deal worth for £35 Million in 2017, is departing Chelsea having not made a senior appearance for the Blues since the 2018 Community Shield defeat by Manchester City at Wembley Stadium. Drinkwater scored once in 23 games for Chelsea and left the club four times on loan spells, with the most recent being for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign in the Championship with Reading. Drinkwater also had stints on loan with Burnley, Aston Villa and Turkish side Kasimpasa.

It seems like an age, but the transfer window has only been open for less than a week and as expected the 'natives' are getting restless as fans right across the country scrutinise every scrap of news they can find out about the comings and goings of players from and to their club, mainly as to where those players they are acquiring come from and how much they cost.

For years every transfer window served to remind West Ham fans just how little investment there was being made in the club, as opposed to it's London neighbours. Virtually every time Hammers showed an interest in a player and it became public, either one or other of Arsenal, Chelsea or especially 'Tottingham' instantly showed an interest in said player.
