Assessing West Ham’s Chances Of Breaking Into The Top 4 In 2022/23

The 2022/23 Premier League season is just around the corner and West Ham will be looking to build on an excellent 2021/22 campaign. The Hammers finished seventh last season but were right in the mix for fourth and fifth place until the final weeks when their domestic form dipped due to their European commitments. David Moyes’ men enjoyed a memorable Europa League run that saw them crash out to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 in the semi-final stages.

West Ham will be looking to build on last season with Moyes suggesting his squad are ready to compete for a top four place if they can strengthen their ranks in the transfer market this summer. We’ll have to wait and see who Moyes brings in but the owners have been supportive in the market in recent windows, so if they can land a few top class players then the Hammers could be dark horses for fourth place.

Current odds

As things stand, West Ham are the 12/1 eighth favourites with the bookmakers to finish in the top four of the Premier League next season. You can click here to check out the latest odds and find the best signup offers before placing any bets.

Obviously, defending champions Manchester City and beaten Champions League finalists Liverpool are heavy odds-on favourites to finish in the top two positions once again. Chelsea are backed as the 4/6 third favourites to finish in the top four while Tottenham are 4/5 to come fourth again after pipping Arsenal last year. Manchester United endured a torrid campaign last season and new boss Erik ten Hag facing a tough task to get them back in the Champions League. The Red Devils are 5/4 to finish in the top four and you’d have to be a die-hard fan to back them given the amount of changes needed at Old Trafford this summer.

Arsenal will be desperate to make up for their disappointment from last season that saw them blow a five-point lead over Spurs to finish fifth. The Gunners are priced at 2/1 to make the top four – making them sixth favourites.

Outsiders

Newcastle are expected to invest heavily in the transfer market this summer after finding new-found wealth with the Saudi owners but it’s going to take time for them to be competitive so it’s no surprise they are 7/1 to finish in the top four next year. West Ham are up next, with the Londoners regarded as outsiders to crash the top four status-quo. Moyes won’t mind being branded underdogs and West Ham surprised many with their quality last season. If they can add more consistency to their performances and make the London Stadium a fortress, then who knows….maybe the Hammers could shock a few people next season?

Isn't that the problem a lack of signings. Liverpool are about to complete there third signing which will complete their plans for this summer. West Ham were sending scouts to Nations Cup gains. Any half decent management would have been scouting throughout the year, had a set of planned targets and agreed with agents a package so that transfers are done and players arrive in time for pre-season training so the team will gel. Just like January West Ham seem have no planning. Based on our second half performance only last season we were 13th in the table. This does not augur well - without some serious changes then next season is not looking good.

As Essex boy has mentioned elsewhere priority is a decent striker, without I fear we will struggle this term to even make mid table

I fully back myself on that and do believe, without a decent striker,we wont be breaking into the top 4,and yes mate we would struggle for mid table.....Theres some great expectations on the Toon isnt there?? they have got to cover some ground,in my opinion they will be mid table or just above.

It won't happen. I reserve the right to change my opinion after the window shuts but I won't be holding my breath

That will happen IMO.... if he does sell Soucek to the spuds fails to get his boycrush and a striker in and Soucek who goes on to score against us in August and throughout while we struggle for goals....Questions need asking Moyes has to answer them otherwise i can see him gone.

I agree Deluded, the available players out there probably see more and hear more behind the scenes,in that this club gives off a lack of ambition, and so dont spend,we can see it ourselves in which we readily post on it,thats why the Lingard situation is on us,hes waiting to see what we do,he dosent want to come to a club thats happy with mid table mediocrity.

Its the dull boring drone that we get from the club hardly exciting is it and totally unambitious from owners to Manager....as i said elsewhere we moved to the BOM to compete with the bigger clubs that was the Shite peddled out i/we see very little of that.....

Being a long suffering fan of over 50 years like a lot on here. I actually think time is nearly up for our good run over the last 2 seasons.

As everyone knows it's not long before we hit shaky ground. I think Moyes has done well. But without investment. Plus a lot of teams working us out towards the end of last season. I think he'll be gone by the World Cup break also.

I am a pragmatic person, but I fear the journey will stall this season. Before some new blood gets injected into the club.

We are West Ham, its normal that the wheels will come off eventually. I think however with Moyes we have a better chance. I fancy a top 6 finish. I think I am more Realist than Pragmatist but certainly not an optimist or pessimist... Thats now too many Mists... Im off to the pub to get missed :o) KTF!!!
