Just when things were looking on the up for West Ham fans as they anticipated a brighter future under the guidance of Manuel Pellegrini, unwelcome news has emerged from the Argentine camp preparing for the World Cup in Russia that Hammers star Manuel Lanzini has suffered a severe Anterior Knee Ligament injury during training.
"Although you can go home on the same day as surgery, recovering from anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery is not a quick process. From the time you first undergo surgery through full rehabilitation, the process can take up to six months or more."
Lanzini is said to be devastated as will the Hammers hierarchy as they face up to the reality that Lanzini may well not be available until Christmas, worse still is historically players never return fully from an ACL having instead to adapt their style of play to make up for the inevitable loss of speed that they experience on their return to first team football, Michael Owen being a classic example of a player blessed with ferocious pace who's game had to completely change in order for him to keep on playing at the highest level, he never did reach the heights that he once attained as a direct result of his injury.
Apart from the obvious heartache the player himself will feel, Lanzini's injury is a catastrophic blow for West Ham's hopes and aspirations for this coming season, the need to 'splash the cash' will be even more imperative now, any top team would suffer with the loss of such a talented and talismatic player, the Hammers more so given the lack of creative players elsewhere in the squad. The need for reinforcements just got a whole load more (sic) crucial! - Ed

Bloody International Football
Bloody International Football so now we've lost one of our best players for a big chunk of next season, I assume Mario is a cert now.
I d love to know where we
I d love to know where we rank on the injury list league. We must be near the top ,it was bound to happen with outr luck, so i expect Sully will be burning the midnight oil on the freebie trail
What a bag of bollox, why us
What a bag of bollox, why us FFS..?
Shattered
He will be a massive loss for the rest of the year.
Very difficult injury.
Wish him all the best.
That is WH
every f...ing year, when are we going to get a break.
why always us
We never seem to catch a break on the injury front...my god just who do we have to get in to lift this bloody curse.......
We did have a vicar come in
We did have a vicar come in to exorcise the demon, but even he ended up on a stretcher in the treatment room.
It really is getting quite
It really is getting quite boring isn't it. Even in the summer when we ain't even playing we get a long term injury to an important player! We can't even blame rush green this time! Now we gota spend the 2 million Sullivan had ear marked for our marque signing on a replacement journeyman over 35 years of age! Anyone know anyone that age out of contract played for a top team? Maybe even someone pelegrini has used before?
Have a word
With that old gypsy woman who cursed the Boleyn, maybe its spread to Scaffold Towers!!
LOL 65
I was just about to post the exact same comments. That gypsy curse at MDF Towers will follow us around the borough!
Must agree..
The MDF turrets were lovely wernt they!!;)
Mate, did anyone take those
Mate, did anyone take those MDF towers? Would be great to see them again at a theme park or in the back of Russel Brands house :o)
Did Lanzini sign that new
Did Lanzini sign that new improved contract?
no mate
Sullivan will be thanking his lucky stars for that but just heard the news the injury is even worse than first thought and he will be out for up to a year now.....so whatever Sullivan has saved on a new contract for lanzini he will have to splash out more to get the replacement we are going to need.....
Up to a year FFS!!
Thats his career down the swanee then, right wheres that bloody gypsy!!
It's always us and it's
It's always us and it's always our best players. FFS we better be well compensated for this travesty. My blood is effing boiling atm!!
The injury was sustained
The injury was sustained during training and therefore just like deano back in the day there is no compensation available, football associations are only obligated to pay players wages if they are injured during played matches, not during training, It doesn;t get better does it?
Crikey!
How many players have we had destroyed on international duty. Deano, Sakho, Lanzini ... I was really looking forward to Lanzini linking up with Arnautovic next season. As we have seen that Sullivan is already trying to skimp on signings, we have to worry that we won't be able to hold onto Arnie either. The only way to make him happy is to build a team that can challenge for a European place. Things just got MUCH worse for us. Need to spend in the range of £100M to make headway against the tide: four QUALITY players needed -- golakeeper, defender, two midfileders. Nothing short of that.
i wonder if
This will make signing Wilshire more of a probability now as he will be available on a free when contract expires...but you are not wrong saying £100 million ashes but in Sullivan maths that £1000 pounds less ffp!
Shame about Lanzini.
Shame about Lanzini. Looks like the Mawson and Fabianski deals from Swansea are stalled, as they want to get West Ham to cough up more than 20 million pounds for Mawson. But Felipe Anderson could be the next marquee signing from Lazio.
I still think Anderson would be great.
There's no denying that players like Anderson and Pastore have big wage demands, and that is an obstacle. I don't begrudge Sullivan wanting to negotiate the best deal he can. But the alternative (relegation battle) is so chancy, so expensive and so soul-destroying that someone has to bite the bullet and get a few of the top deals done. After that they can look at Mawson, Fabianski, Traore, and Gibson (since we do need depth).
Don't know much about this
Don't know much about this Brazilian, but we have been after him for weeks,we offer 17mil and it gets knocked back, and of course it will be when Lazio want up to 43 mil for him,so I suppose we will miss out as usual.
Every silver lining has a cloud
At least it's taken him out of the shop window that is the World Cup. So we should be able to hold on to him for another season
