Benteke Backward Step!

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Mon, 31/01/2022 - 13:17

Now that Palace have turned Jean-Philippe Mateta's loan into a permanent deal ahead of schedule, they are willing to listen to 'reasonable' offers for Christian Benteke's services, either on loan or as they would prefer permanently. West Ham have been mentioned as one of the clubs allegedly interested in the 31 year old striker and given the club's urgent need for a back up striker for Michail Antonio might possibly go for a loan deal during the dying embers of this transfer window.

Logistically it is an easy deal to complete, far easier than Hammers doomed pursuit of Darwin Nunez who is across the other side of the World and whose club have already rejected a substantial bid from West Ham. If David Moyes doesn't go for the newly available Divock Origi, then Benteke would be better than bugger all wouldn't he? Although many fans would see his acquisition as a backward step.- ED

At Last A Break Through!

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Mon, 31/01/2022 - 12:52

Finally it appears as if West Ham have managed to break their self imposed transfer embargo, the frenzied activity of the last few days seem to finally be paying off as the club looks forward to welcoming the off the radar loan signing of Liverpool's Divock Origi to its ranks. It may not be the marquee type of signing fans wanted, more of a one man tent, but at least it is a bit of fresh blood to liven up the squad.

This will be the last transfer window that Hammers go into with one arm tied behind their backs, as the fall out form David Moyes's predecessor Manuel Pellegtini's excesses will finally draw to a close. Just starting with a fresh slate will be an inspiration to Moyes, who has had to somehow negotiate his way forward while being manacled by the incredibly unbalanced squad he inherited.

One by one Pellegrini's signings are exiting the club, leaving only Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop and Pablo Fornals remaining. The amount of money wasted by the Chilean, who now incidentally manages Real Betis on a shoe string, was nothing short of criminal with the club continuing to pay for his extravagancies.

Origi's availability has only just been confirmed, following the Anfield outfit's capture of Luis Diaz from Porto, so this one will take a bit of doing, but it is far more practical than pursuing players who are owned by clubs unwilling to sell during this window. The fact that David Sullivan's old mucker Will Salthouse is Origi's agent should be the banker, but then nothing is guaranteed until the player has signed on the dotted line.

Next season all that will change, UNFORTUNATELY the golden opportunity the last two seasons have presented Hammers to gatecrash the top four will NOT present itself again for some considerable time, so unless the club can pull off some seismic deals during the remaining ELEVEN HOURS, it might be a case of what might have been. - LN

£8 Million For Diop? Toon Having A Joke!

Toon 'Insult' Irons With Low Ball Diop Bid!

Newcastle United have been linked with virtually EVERY transfer deal in the offing during this transfer window, as befits the wealthiest club in the World, however their incredibly 'low ball' offer to West Ham United for Issa diop shows that they are trying to set a precedent that they themselves have already shattered with some of their 'ludicrous' offers made for players!

The knock on effect of the Toon's splurging is that prices have been hiked up around the footballing community for EVERY player they show an INTEREST in, the prices only being reduced once Newcastle have moved on to another target. Hammers fans can't really complain though, because WEst Ham did EXACTLY the same thing when faced with relegation but having become flush with cash from the Icelandic 'biscuit barons' consortium led by Eggert Magnuson.

The miserly offer of £8 Million the Toon have made for Issa Diop prompted the response from one Hammers spokesperson of "which toe do they want for that?" Any offer for LESS than £25 Million would be an absolute joke, so we can only assume that someone accidentally left out the 2 before the 8 Million.

Unless the on off Caleta-Car deal goes through, there is NO WAY on this planet Diop will be allowed to leave during this window, especially not for the peanuts offered by the Geordies! - Ed

Irons Late Striker Bid In Balance-Which One?

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Mon, 31/01/2022 - 09:18
£150 Million buy out clause won't get in Hammers way of buying Darwin Nunez

In the last 24 hours it has been confirmed that West Ham have submitted 'competitively' priced bids to no less than THREE clubs in their hunt for a striker, that figure excludes the numerous bids submitted for players in other positions. We will leave the recriminations as to who and why the purported transfers have come so far down the line, without any tangible fruition.

Having seen 'strange' £50 Million bids for Leeds duo Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips rejected early yesterday morning Hammers 'suddenly' switched their hunt for fire power by slinging in a 'cheeky' £40 Million bid for Benfica's Darwin Nunez. However the club face a difficult task negotiating a deal with Benfica to sign the Uruguayan striker before the transfer deadline tonight, as the player is currently representing Uruguay in the South American World Cup qualifiers, so getting the stringent medical required before 11PM GMT is pushing the bounds of reality!.

Nunez is the type of player Hammers fans have dreamt of arriving at the club, he is in an entirely different league to the usual 'duffers' that rock up on deadline day. His $140 Million release clause shows just how highly prized he is, but as is the case with the vast majority of footballers plying their trade in Portugal, is on ludicrously LOW wages, so agreeing personal, terms is the least of the club's worries.

IF this one can be completed today, fans will look on this window as a piece of slick manoeuvring, if it doesn't there will be feelings that it is the same old West Ham 'song of failure' they have heard often before, only this time with different lyrics! - LN

D Day Countdown Begins With Deal(s) In The Air

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Sun, 30/01/2022 - 23:03

The final day of the January transfer window has just begun, a whole month is just about come to a close with so many players pursued but as yet NO arrivals. The Caleta-Car deal that earlier seemed in the bag has gone worryingly quiet, the player was reported to be on his way to London for a medical according to respected French media sources. However he hasn't been seen although if he was travelling on a private plane from France, there are numerous small airports available to choose from and he could possibly be in the UK already.

The hunt for players has begun to have that Groundhog day feel about it, bidding for a player who is across the other side of the World, bidding massive money domestically knowing full well that there isn't a hope in hell that the player's club will sell and making loan offers instead of permanent ones are all too familiar scenarios.

A window that began with so much hope, given the 'Kretin in the Sky' investment, has flattered to deceive. What have M&N been up to? Perhaps the master plan will be revealed by 11PM tomorrow and everyone will be happy, perhaps NOT! -ED

Ćaleta-Car Flying In For Medical

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Sun, 30/01/2022 - 17:28

Barring a last minute hitch, nowadays more commonly known as a late bid from Newcastle, long term David Moyes target Duje Ćaleta-Car is scheduled to fly in to London for his medical ahead of a PERMANENT move from Olympique Marseille.

Hammers will pay an initial £14 Million with a further £4 Million in add ons, Ćaleta-Car will be signing a four year deal on a basic wage of £80,000 per week, double that which he currently receives at Marseille. The 25 year old Croatian International will slot straight in at the centre of defence alongside Kurt Zouma and provide Hammers with a more steely back bone.

The deal has not been finalised as yet but Duje Ćaleta-Car is heading to West Ham and should sail through his medical, unfortunately Hammers other Marseille player who was of interest, Bamba Dieng is staying put though, with Marseille having just knocked back an attractive offer from Turkey because the player and his agent were not interested in moving to a 'lesser' League.

With any transfer there is a degree of jeopardy involved, but Ćaleta-Car has been a consistant performer season in season out and DOES represent an upgrade on Craig Dawson and the Issa Diop of now, as opposed the Issa Diop who first arrrived at the club and was imperious when playing alongside the 'General', Fabian Balbuena.

Why the club ever sold Balbuena is beyond us, he could have earned the club the extra points between European qualification and NOT, doubtless there were reasons that he was sold. If Ćaleta-Car arrives in time it could make the difference. -Ed

Irons Last Ditch Deal Imminent

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sun, 30/01/2022 - 09:13

As we are now well into the last 48 hours of the January transfer window, fervent activity and furrowed brows are the order of the day for those clubs needing reinforcements, West Ham fall into the want rather than need players category, but nevertheless it is squeaky time' at Goose Green and the Brady Bowl.

There is always an element of denial involved during the window and traditionally for Hammers fans, hope is invariably followed by despair, hotly pursued by disappointment with recrimination following up from the rear! It seems as if every window the old "we tried, blah blah blah" gets rolled out, well this transfer window IS DIFFERENT!

The end result might be the same, but the circumstances ARE entirely different, thanks to Daniel Kretinsky's initial investment in West Ham the club is able to table 'meaningful bids' for the type of player normally associated with the 'elite six', it doesn't mean the deals will come off, but at least they ARE real offers and not the usual smoke and mirrors fare fans have been served up on a generational basis.

The numbers are baffling though, has the club really bid these amounts?

Hugo Ekitike €40 Million
Kalvin Phillips £50 Million
Raphinha £50 Million

Almost certainly NOT, has the club bid 'large' for one of these players? Most definitely YES, however the 'easiest' of the tree player transfers would be the most risky, namely that of 19 year old Hugo Ekitike who has seen his value go up by 1000 % from €4 Million to €40 Million in the space of only SIX MONTHS!

Ekitike might be Europe's hottest young striker, but it would be a hell of a risk to buy him outright now for such a sum, IF a loan to buy deal can be struck then Moyes and Newman or M&N for short simply MUST pull the trigger. The Leeds United duo of Raphinha and Phillips offer is another thing entirely and on the face of it makes little sense.

That is not to say David Moyes doesn't covet one or both players, but given Leeds United's precarious Premier League position it can be assumed that they will NOT sell either player during this window, UNLESS there are 'elements' that are not in the public domain regarding the club's finances.

Andrea Radrizzani is the majority shareholder who has several media businesses as well other start up companies, however the Covid Pandemic has seriously affected his companies across the board leading to a great deal of unwanted 'cross collateralisation. This may be an unwarranted assumption, for which we apologise, but there is NO WAY David Moyes would put his name to a bid unless there was SOME substance, so we can only assume that Leeds ARE in financial difficulties that are NOT in the public domain, hence the bids for their star players.

It will all be over soon, but we have a feeling there is a deal in the air, problem is we can honestly say we have absolutely NO IDEA which one if the three it will be! -LN

Man Utd Admit Lingard Defeat

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sat, 29/01/2022 - 21:59

They might be the biggest club in the World from a global recognition and branding point of view, but Manchester United have admitted defeat when it comes to this season's Premier League title and are desperately trying to finish ahead of the following pack, so much so that they have admitted they will not do any business with West Ham regarding Jesse Lingard because they regard West Ham as direct competitors in the race for the Champions League places.

There is a certain irony in the fact that David Moyes was unceremoniously dispensed with by the Old Trafford club after succeeding Alex Ferguson as manager, yet here he is, operating on a fraction of their budget but threatening to derail their European aspirations!

Although it is messing with his transfer plans, secretly Moyes must allow himself a wry smile at how his former employers are running scared of the club he has given a new identity to, however the person who's transfer plans are most messed up is the player himself.

Jesse Lingard has been with Manchester United for over 22 YEARS, man and boy! That is an astonishing amount of time and surely deserving of some respect from the club he has served for so long, Utd's already tarnished reputation, due to their ill fated attempt at a breakaway Super League, will be dragged further through the mud as a result of their treatment of a truly loyal servant.

Shame on them! LN

Bielsa Bonkers About Irons Bid!

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sat, 29/01/2022 - 11:45
Biels blew a gasket when it was suggested Irons bid was acceptable!

Never one to be calm, the Leeds United manager apparently threw a complete wobbler when told of Hammers late attempt at signing his 'jewel' Raphinha, the bid is believed to have been huge but was knocked back instantly by Leeds on Marcelo Bielsa's behest following a 'communication' from him that set out very clearly how annoyed he would be if ANY offer were accepted for Raphinha, whatever the price!

Leeds are currently only 7 points clear of the drop zone and would be foolhardy to let their prized asset leave until their Premier League safety is confirmed for this season. News of this 'huge' Hammers bid follows swiftly on the coat tails of another huge but unsuccessful bid for an 'unnamed' player AND confirmation that Hammers were in for Patrick Schick from Bayer Leverkusen but were quoted a price of €75 Million.

Excuse our scepticism, it probably comes from a generational wound caused by smoke inhalation and mirror blindness, but doesn't this all sound a bit familiar? It is just that the price bracket for the failed bids is higher! Hopefully we will be proved wrong, but don't hold your breath! - LN

Irons Short List Down To French Based 3

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Sat, 29/01/2022 - 10:17
Over priced, over hyped, or over here?

With the clock ticking down ever closer to the end of the transfer window there is always a feeding frenzy over players destinations and where clubs are doing their 'shopping', well it appears that Hammers have decided to do their business as close to home as possible for a club shopping in the non domestic market, namely in France.

Although even that statement is ambiguous because, although based in France, one of Hammers principal transfer targets Bamba Dieng is currently at the AFCON tournament representing Senegal who play their 1/4 final against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday.

Obviously the logistics for signing Dieng before the window closes are mind boggling, but NOT insurmountable, given that he will be available for just under €10 Million from Marseille, Hammers might just have to bite the bullet from a fitness point of view in order to get the deal over the line at what is a bargain price for a player of Bamba's potential.

Much also depends on whether Hammers ARE trying to do the 'double' deal that has been mooted, whereby they would acquire the highly rated and long coveted centre back Duje Caleta-Car in addition to Bamba Dieng. Hammers want to get the players on a loan to buy basis, but Mareille are having none of it, however such is their financial plight they WILL listen to a 'reasonable CASH offer' to take both players during this window.

The third of 'les trois Amis' is Reims’ highly rated, but incredibly over priced 19 year old, Hugo Ekitike. His sudden hike in price from is no doubt due to the 'Toon factor', bit by bit they are destroying this transfer window with their over the top bids! Ekitike's value rose €3 Million between September and December 2021 to €6 Million, but from December to January 2022 it has gone up from €6 Million to an eye watering €30 Million!

€30 Million is way too rich a fee for Hammers to pay, but it is thought that there IS room for manoeuvre which might include a mammoth sell on clause believed to be higher than 20% AND realistic add ons that are based on achievable targets.

We firmly expect at least ONE of the above mentioned players to be signed within this window, we are betting on that player to be.... drum roll...Bamba Dieng! As he is currently located in Cameroon, sceptical fans will think it also gives the club a chance to say "we tried, but just couldn't get it over the line in time"

We shall see! - ED
