Why Double Deal With Payet's Club Is Still Possible

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Fri, 28/01/2022 - 21:02

Why on earth would Olympique de Marseille even consider letting two of their star players leave during this transfer window? It makes no sense, but then a lot of football related transactions seem absolutely barmy from the outside looking in, things are rarely how they seem.

Hammers would be the beneificiaries of Olympique de Marseille's woes IF the club can put together a financial package that is tempting enough for the French team, that is because Marseille are financially screwed! Year upon years of financial mismanagement have finally come home to roost in the South of France, as ex-Hammer Dimitri Payet's club have been forced into continuing austerity measures to avoid sanctions from UEFA and point deductions from the French FA.

In 2017/18 Marseille finished fourth, a single point behind Champions’ League bound Lyon and the result was a net loss of over €78m. This was the second straight season OM recorded losses – giving the club one year to turn around its financial outlook. The trajectory was nearly identical to that of Lille, who at the end of the 2017/18 season posted losses of €140m after slavishly pursuing Champions’ League football. The northern French side came under close scrutiny from the DNCG and it took a €142m cash infusion, supported by JP Morgan and others, from owner Gérard López to save the club from LFP-imposed relegation.

Marseille found itself in a similar conundrum; bloated with unsellable contracts and incapable of raising sufficient funds through player trading, it seemed unlikely the club would be able to recover organically. Moreover, Marseille had recently finished one-point shy of third place and gone all the way to the Europa League final, before ultimately losing to Atlético Madrid. It could taste Champions’ League football.

Therefore, the 2018/19 season saw Marseille modestly increase its wage bill – determined to stay the course. It was a disastrous campaign; the club finished fifth – a full 11 points out of the Champions’ League places. The losses topped €90m and Marseille were forced to appear in front of UEFA’s club financial control board.
All of this means that OM are so desperate to raise money, that they will accept offers far below the market value of players, but the offers have to be CASH UP FRONT, no HP in any way or form, which rules out HHammers normal modus operandi.

However IF the club could buy BOTH players for a combined fee of €25 Million which is what we have heard OM's bottom line price is, then it might be worth a punt in order to solve TWO problem areas in one hit! Often fans sites suggest prices like €25 Million for two players are a bargain, well they are NOT! Not if the selling team is in financial schtuk, Hammers have been on the receiving end having to sell at low prices before, with that 'vulture' Daniel Levy being one of the chief benefactors, well the boot's on the other foot now, unfortunately it is Olympique de Marseille who are in dire need rather than Tottingham!

Get it done M&N before the Toon somehow manage to hoover them up!- LN

Hammers High End Hunt

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Fri, 28/01/2022 - 20:09

Three days remain of the January transfer window and as expected by many Hammers fans there has been little if any transfer activity, the 'mission' handed down by the Moyesiah has been one of acquiring quality, not quantity. So recent rumours of 'Huge'(o) offers for players have more credibility than transfer rumours that USED to emanate from the club, before the 58 year old Scot's 2nd coming.

Sometimes the detail can get lost in the translation when it comes to transfers involving non domestic players, the confusion between terminology and currencies adds to the mix with an end result of increased vagueness and lack of accurate authentication.

Hugo Ekitike is one 'high end' player who David Moyes has been keeping an eye on, the 19 year old Reims striker has been compared to Thierry Henry by many and is expected to progress into being one of Europe's finest forwards. Reims want around €40 million for Ekitike which is not a lot of money for a State or Oligarch owned club, but it is a bit rich for West Ham, especially given the player's inexperience of the Premier League which can be brutal to newcomers.

The other rumoured 'high end' target of David Moyes is Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri, he is currently away at AFCON so as far as we are concerned there is no substance to that particular rumour as it would be virtually impossible to arrange a full and proper medical before January 31st during the tournament.

The £50 Million is more than likely the COMBINED total of offers made for THREE players that has just been used for a bit of media bait. Word iS that a Caleta Car from Marseille deal is still tentatively possible, IF it were to happen there is EVERY likelihood that Issa Diop WILL get sold to Newcastle in order to fund the transfer, now this one REALLY DOES have legs.

Don't be at all surprised to see Hammers sell one centre back and replace him with another, but don't expect much more, because if you do, you will surely be disappointed come 11PM on Monday evening when the lights will NOT be burning brightly for last minute deals. - Ed

Mystery Striker Bid

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Thu, 27/01/2022 - 20:02

There is of course non stop media coverage of the transfer window every time it is about to draw to a close, more so with regards to this January's window, because of the Premier League's unique winter break. Newcastle are the club linked with every transfer story whether they have shown any interest or not.

West Ham have had their fair share of interest as well, observers expected the club to be big hitters during the window owing to the inbound investment of Daniel Kretinsky, however NOTHING has happened on the face of it. Hammers have gone from a club that did all its washing in public, to a strictly ANTK basis, firmly enforced by the Laird of East London, David Moyes.

So fans who have grown up on a diet of real news 'Angel Delight', are having difficulty in accepting the truth when they are given it on a plate, or a bowl, to continue the Desert of no substance metaphor. The truth hurts, being in denial with the fact that the club has tried but failed, but actually REALLY HAVE tried and failed to bring players in, doesn't detract from the reality of how difficult the January window can be.

The rumours of a £50 Million striker bid are just a little too convenient, not for the club, who don't need to sell season tickets and will welcome a full stadium for the Europa League game(s), but for a media crying out for copy, irrespective of how true or false the story is.

We at the Org continue to firmly believe that a last minute deal for Chelsea's Armando Broja is in the offing, if it doesn't happen we will not be embarrassed because although our source IS genuine, so much can happen in an instant, both positive AND negative.

At least Hammers fans know that this time there has been the wherewithal and intent from the board to back their manager, he just has to loosen up but not be stupid which is a difficult balance, but that is what he is paid over £80,000 per week, excluding bonuses, to do. - Ed

Even Moyes Won't Do That-Must Be 1 Striker In 1 Out!

News that young Hammers striker Mipo Odubeko has joined relegation strugglers Doncaster Rovers hasn't gone down too well with some Hammers fans, there are those questioning the logic behind sending a forward out on loan, albeit an inexperienced one, when the club only has ONE recognised striker!

Mipo has just returned from an incredibly underwhelming loan spell at Sky Bet Championship club Huddersfield Town, he hardly played for Huddersfield and it is to be hoped he will get more game time at Rovers. West Ham had a grand plan for the youngster after he arrived from Manchester United, unfortunately thus far he has failed to live up to his earlier promise, hence ANOTHER loan spell.

More pertinent to most fans is the question, why send a striker out on loan when the club are so light in that area? The obvious answer is that David Moyes MUST have an additional striker lined up to join the club during this transfer window, he does have Thierry Nevers and Armstrong Okoflex available, but surely he CANNOT have sanctioned Odubeko's loan UNLESS another striker is scheduled to arrive at the club within the next FOUR days!

Moyes would have to be in complete denial if he thinks Hammers can 'limp' through to the end of the season with Mikey Antonio as the club's only recognised striker, yes Jarrod Bowen has chipped in, as have all the forward players, but they are NOT strikers!

West Ham are NOT Manchester City, who are able to function WITHOUT a recognised striker because they have one of the BEST squads, if not the Best squad, in the world! Their bench even contains more stars than a Galaxy so they can get away with it, a glance at Hammers bench shows who can't!

So there we have it, MOYES IS GOING TO BRING A STRIKER IN, we have written it! Our contact at Chelsea has confirmed Hammers 'real' interest in signing Armando Broja, from what we can gather Moyes is VERY interested in bringing the 20 year old Albanian across London from West to East and that talks have progressed but that they are not at an advanced stage yet.

Given the fact that Armando Broja is available to do a medical at the drop of a hat, it is to be hoped he is the 'surprise' that Moyes the 'Magician' pulls out of the hat. -LN

Strike While The Iron Is Hot -Decree From GSK&B

We have all been there as children, you get to the top of the water slide or hook line queue and take up your position while a heap of others are waiting patiently behind for you to take the plunge. Suddenly you are gripped with fear and freeze on the spot, but there is NO going back so you have to BE BRAVE and summon up all your courage and leap into the unknown.

It's all over in a few seconds, you look back for acknowledgement or appreciation from those in the queue jostling for position only to see that no one noticed anything out of the ordinary and that the entire 'grip of fear' experience you had was all in your mind.

David Moyes has finally got back to near the top of the queue, having been sent to the back by Manchester United, it has been a long and arduous journey but finally he is back with the big boys, albeit only tenuously. To continue the queueing metaphor Moyes has reached a point in the transfer market whereby he CAN AFFORD to take the plunge, but is possibly reticent to do so having been 'scarred' by previous experiences.

Jockeys who fall off horses, F1 drivers who crash and relay runners who drop the baton, ALL have to pick themselves up and go again, overcoming their fears in the process. David Moyes has done incredibly well during both of his spells at the club, his 2nd coming period being the most productive. He is now at a bit of a cross roads, in a way his success over the last two years, despite the team's recent blip in form, has created a myth that he doesn't seem to want to tarnish by making a big transfer mistake, thereby ruining his redemption.

The problem is that David Moyes IS risking his reputation by not even putting himself in the firing line, by playing safe and signing no one, it is what record company A&R men used to do in the past! Moyes' relutance to take a risk in the market is commendable but is also a bit weak, NOT a word that you would usually associate with the 58 year old Scot!

At the risk of receiving a 'slap' from the erstwhile Hammers manager (he'll know what we mean), we suggest he 'grows a pair' and gets OFF the fence and spends a bit of the money he has available! This comment may seem hypocritical as we have always backed Moyes' reluctance to sign players just 'for the sake of it', but sometimes being intransigent just because you are right can be WRONG!

In the past the board signed useless players soley to appease disenfranchised fans, but that is NOT necessary now, however fans do love a new signing, so why not do a little something for them Moysie? The Board has reiterated there is money there for you waiting to be used.

It may not make much sense from a football point of view, but it wouldn't upset the apple cart too much if you brought in just one 'Tiny' little striker as a present would it? Michy Antonio's ham strings would love it for a start, so would the fans AND the Owners! - Ed

Irons Poor Form Helps Striker Option

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Wed, 26/01/2022 - 22:22

In the last few days ExWHUemployee confirmed that the Irons were very interested in Chelsea's Armando Broja, we have already covered some of the options available for the the 20 year old but specified Southampton’s position as a big obstacle to David Moyes’ chances of landing the player.

A combination of developments might just have aided Hammers pursuit of the Albanian striker, firstly Southampton have distanced themselves from discussing any permanent deal and secondly that Chelsea have concluded that West Ham are not a 'clear and obvious danger' to their Premier League aspirations and therefore, unlike Manchester United are NOT afraid to sell to one of their London rivals.

Ironically had it not been for Hammers' form dropping off the cliff during December, Chelsea would definitely NOT have sanctioned a deal involving Armando Broja going to Stratford, whereas now West Ham are being seen as a good destination for him to go to ON LOAN!

We have heard that there is a possibility of a long term loan, something that is fairly common place in Europe but rarely occurs over here. Whatever the terms available, it would be a God send to have a young, fit and eager to showcase their talents striker to arrive and freshen things up and bringing the sort of energy Jesse Lingard did when he arrived on loan from Manchester United last January. - ED

Swap Deal P/X Irons & Forest

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Wed, 26/01/2022 - 18:22

Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall has been on Hammers radar along with a host of other players for what seems an age, as the clock continues to tick down towards deadline day more and more rumours abound it is the nature of the beast.

The 25 year old is good in the air and a bit of a throw back to central defenders of the past, he is tough tackling and can look after himself in a showdown, he is 6'4" tall and is a warrior rather than a worrier in defence, his performances belie his young age and on the face of it he would be a typical David Moyes signing

In 22 Championship appearances for Forest this season, Worrall has averaged two tackles, two interceptions, 3.7 clearances and one block per game. He has also won an average of 2.4 aerial duels per match. The Daily Mail recently reported that Nottingham Forest value him at around £12 Million, however as they are competing for promotion they are in two minds about selling Worrall.

Interestingly West Ham were reported to be in talks with Forest just the other day with regards to their interest in Hammers U-23 left back Emmanuel Longelo. The youngster has only played one first team game for the Irons which was against Dinamo Zagreb, butduring which he acquitted himself admirably.

21 year old Longelo is a product of the Academy and a regular in the table topping U- 23's in Premier League Division Two, however given how light Hammers are in the left back area, it is somewhat of a surprise that the club would even consider sending him out on loan, but if the loan deal was a sweetener to get hold of Joe Worrall, then it would make much more sense.

Our view is that Forest would be crazy to sell Worrall so deep into the January window, unless they have an alternative in mind, but it should be remembered who they sold to West Ham on the last day of the transfer window way back in 2015? A certain Mikey Antonio, enough said! - LN

Broja Bull ****?

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Wed, 26/01/2022 - 17:36
Chelsea youngster Armando Broja could be West Ham bound.

Today we have been trying to go through just SOME of the 'runners and riders' in the 'great' West Ham player hunt, that is unravelling in front of us as the transfer deadline looms large! Next up on the list of 'hopefuls' is the pursuit of Chelsea's 20 year old striker, Armando Broja.

Broja is currently on loan at Southampton but can be recalled and then sold on during the next few days in accordance with his loan deal. Having scored seven goals in 20 games for Southampton since joining them on loan, Broja has indicated his desire to continue his development on the South Coast and the Saints are very keen for him to stay as well. So much so that they are apparently about to table a £25 Million bid for the young Albanian, however that figure may just be 'agent talk' and probably includes more add ons than a 'surprise' party guest list at No 10!

It remains unclear whether Chelsea want to part with their academy graduate permanently, but it is obvious that West Ham and other suitors will have to match or outbid Southampton to have any chance of getting the youngster’s signature.
Creditable journailst Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “Understand Southampton are now expected to launch a £25million record bid for Albanian striker Armando Broja. Proposal to be submitted soon. Let’s see Chelsea position – as Thomas Tuchel is a big admirer of Broja. “He’s our player”, Tuchel said a few days ago.”

We have our own well connected source at the Bridge, who confirmed that Chelsea are indeed looking in to a compatible arrangement for the youngster which could involve a loan to buy deal, BUT with a proviso that Chelsea have the first option to buy him back should he be put on the market, alternatively they may insist on a massive sell on clause!

On one hand the purported £25 Million fee seems a lot of money for the 20 year old, however he has already shown he has the ability to cut it in the Premier League, but while Hammers CAN afford it, they are not likely to want to engage in a bidding war with Southampton, nor the inevitable last minute interest that will come from New'mint'castle.

As Chelsea are one of only three clubs in the Premier League with unlimited resources. at their disposal, they can be difficult to negotiate with, but there is 'good blood' between West Ham and Chelsea, as was seen by the ease with which the Kurt Zouma deal was done. Since selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax last January, finding a back up striker to Mikey Antonio has proved incredibly difficult for some reason, now in the past that was because there was NO money available, but while the club is not flush with cash presently, it is in a far better financial position than a good deal of it's competitors, both domestically and in Europe.

David Moyes's desire to get good value for money in the transfer market is not only commendable, but essential for a club like West Ham that has to operate on a 'limited' budget. However the club HAS reached a point where it CAN afford to pay in or around market value for one or two players, that is not to say he should go 'all Pelllegrini' and throw huge amounts of money around, he maybe just has to lower the bar ever so slightly. If not, there isn't a snow ball in hell's chance of competing for players during this window, NOT bringing in a striker WILL be a risk too far! ED

Irons Eye Dual Swoop From French Outfit

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Wed, 26/01/2022 - 11:10

When it comes to doing non domestic transfer business, clubs tend to stick with what they know in order to avoid lengthy unnecessary negotiations that more often than not ultimately end in disappointment. Hammers need for reinforcements is hardly a secret, neither is Olympic Marseille's urgent need for money.

Marseille have been hit particularly hard by the failed BeIn Sports TV deal that has seen the club's income plummet to such an extent that they are having to have a fire sale, just in order to balance the books, otherwise they risk severe FFP sanctions. Due to the club's 'chequered' past, their transactions will be heavily scrutinised with no room for error and no favours being handed down by the French FA.

Hammers have been interested in TWO of Marseille's players for some time, young inexperienced striker Bamba Dieng who is apparently available for around €10 Million is a source of much interest to West Ham. Duje Caleta-Car is another player that has been linked with Hammers on and off for ages, Hammers have tried unsuccessfully to get him on loan but their offers has been rebuffed by the French club on more than one occasion.

This is SURELY the type of situation Hammers should be exploiting! After all one of the main reasons for bringing Daniel Kretinsky on board, was for the club to be able to match the bidding of other clubs, at least the mid table ones. This is the time for West Ham to exploit their comparative wealth compared to those in France.

Dieng is 21 years old and has enormous potential, he has been described as the new Didier Drogba but has only managed four goals and one assist in 14 Ligue 1 games for Marseille this season, so he is obviously a work in progress AND he is away at AFCON so getting a deal over the line is nigh on impossible during this window, but it could be done if all parties are willing.

Caleta-Car is a different story though, Marseille are unwilling to sanction the loan to buy deal Hammers want, instead insisting on receiving the full €20 Million he is valued at, whereas Hammers are unwilling to make a straight out purchase fearing the player might not be able to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League. If he did arrive in East London he could link up with his international teammate Nikola Vlasic, a player who's difficulty in settling in is a classic example of why 'try to buy' is such a useful tool when it comes to purchasing players from the European Leagues and beyond.

Hammers and Marseille have a 'decent' business relationship, so there IS EVERY possibility a deal can be struck for at least ONE of the players, preferably the two, sometimes it is best to deal with the 'Devil you know' and let's face it sometimes it takes one to know one which puts Hammers firmly in the driving seat! - ED

Tarkowski Off Piste!

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Wed, 26/01/2022 - 10:04
James Tarkowski won't be joining West Ham during this window!

Perhaps as a result of the 'Newcastle Effect' and it's influence on market values, certain 'unwilling' selling clubs, like Burnley, have decided to add an extra nought to their prices, as a consequence bargains that WERE there to be had have essentially disappeared!

The knock on effect is plain to see, David Moyes's pursuit of James Tarkowski in the January transfer window has ground to an abrupt halt as a result of Sean Dyche slapping a quite ludicrous £30 Million price tag on the 29 year old centre back who has only SIX months remaining on his contract, a contract that has NO extension clause!

Fair play to Dyche who is trying to navigate his way out of the relegation quagmire, while coping with a ridiculous fixture back log at Turf Moor this month and the next. Burnley are bottom of the Premier League, but have as many as FIVE games in hand on other teams, so there need to retain a player of Tarkowski's ability and experience is paramount.

Any financial gain Burnley could make by selling Tarkowski during this window, ahead of losing him on a free transfer in the Summer, pales into insignificance when compared with the financial cost of relegation! So despite David Moyes desperately wanting to bring a top class central defender to play alongside Kurt Zouma before the January transfer window closes, he WILL NOT be getting Tarkowski anytime soon and has already shifted his focus to signing Duje Caleta-Car from Marseille, we'll have more on that one in our next article. - LN
