    Now first thing for me to say here is I'm not a fan of the International stage. I pretty much stopped watching meaningless England games decades ago. However, I do watch some qualifiers of substance. Along with tournaments when we are in them.

    Would I class myself as a fan? Probably not. But I am a very proud Englishman. When asked am I British? I always say no, I'm English. As a 60 year old Englishman I think I've earned the right to that opinion.

    Now that we live in a world full of snowflakes and PC correctness. Something I openly admit to struggling with in society these days. The world is a crazy place as I see it.

    Which leads me back on topic. Why have Nike with the backing of the FA tampered with the cross of St George? The cross of St George symbolises England as a nation. It has been on our football shirts for decades. But now some wet wipe at Nike has decided to change the colour. It's now red, blue and purple.

    What the actual fvck is going on? How can this happen. Is it because we are supposed to be a diverse society? I'm sorry I'm a traditionalist. Would they mess with the Union Jack? No of course they would not. So what gives them the right to mess with the nations identity?

    We are not the British football team. We are not Scotland, Wales or Ireland. We are England and we have an identity. That identity is the cross of St George.

  • Pacman v 180!

    The upcoming friendly between England and Brasil will give Hammers fans the unique chance to cheer on BOTH sides, with Lucas Paqueta representing Brazil and Jarrod Bowen England. Of course 'Pacman' is a guaranteed starter for Brasil, whereas '180' will probably come off the bench, if at all!

    Unfortunately for Jarrod, even IF Southgate elects to start the Hammers striker, it will probably be in a more defensive role than he is usually given. That is not to say Bowen won't give it his all, it is just that the England Boss would get more out of Bowen in a more advanced role that suits his game.

    International breaks are notoriously stressful for club managers. On the one hand they are always pleased to see one of their squad represent their national team, but with the joy comes the very real fear that they might get injured, especially for a friendly that has no real relevance.

    It is what it is though and David Moyes is in the same boat as a host of Premier League managers in hoping his players return unscathed and fit for their upcoming league and European campaigns.

    The latter part of the preceding sentence does however make good reading, 'upcoming league and European campaigns' how many years did fans hope and wish to be actively involved in European football?

    Losing Pacman to injury would be CATASTROPHIC as has been clearly illustrated during his recent time on the sidelines, the club desperately need him to be hale and hearty, but also energised and empowered.

    It is a tricky path to negotiate but hopeful Moyes will be a happy bunny ahead of the game against Newcastle. - LN

  • Boss Wary Of Villa Players Out?

    Supposedly Boubacar Kamara, Emi Buendia, John McGinn and Tyrone Mings are all out of the Villa team that will visit The Irons on Sunday. Even more supposedly Diego Carlos, Jacob Ramsey and Ollie Watkins are all reported as doubts!

    Hmmmm, it seems as if "you are awful' was practising a bit of kidology ahead of a game that means so much for Aston Villa's crack at the champions league and Hammers attempts to at least make the Europa League again.

    David Moyes has no such problems due to the fewer numbers he has to report on, the only 'fear' is over the fitness of Emerson, the other one being Maxwell Cornet. Moyes DID however allude to the fact that Lucas Paqueta had sustained a knock against Freiburg during the week and will be monitored VERY closely.

    The last domestic home game was a real disappointment, two points dropped against Burnley of all teams. Villa will represent a much more difficult task if Hammers are to get anything at all out of the game.

    IF Moyes starts Hammers on the front foot as he did on Thursday there is a bit of a chance!

    It all depends on which West Ham turn up! - Ed

  • It's Ze Germans (again)

    So another trip to Germany awaits. To play Bayer Leverkusen who have been all conquering & undefeated this season. A team that thumped us 4-0 in pre-season though West Ham did not have our new signings to call on then.
    Obviously there were other teams in the hat who would have been more preferable but to win the trophy you have to beat the best. On the plus side we missed Klopp & his Bin Dippers. Should we be worried about facing Leverkusen? Absolutely not. They just scrapped past an Asberjani outfit down to 10 men Qarabag in extra time. This is a team which contains a certain Patrick Schick. A striker who was linked heavily to us in the summer of 2022.
    Providing Moyes does not revert to type & hoist the white flag we could give them food for thought and suprise them. Moyes needs to be brave and attack. As long as we are in touch when we leave Germany a rip roaring night will be assured at the London Stadium. Moyes. Do your bit and us supporters will do ours!

  • It Was Always Going To Be Germans Or Italians!

    Anyone who thought Hammers were going to breeze through to the Europa League Cup Final was seriously deluded as Hammers were given what many see as a bad fixture against Bayer Leverkusen

    For their Europa League Cup 1/4 final.

    This was a great draw, it could have been so much worse, Liverpool CANNOT meet West Ham unless it is for the final! It was obvious Hammers were going to face a 'quality' team at some point, so why not Leverkusen?

    There are NO easy fixture at this stage and having the 2nd game at home is a real bonus, also for the players to know that they can reasonably expect to progress further in the competition and you never know once it gets to the semis.

    The draw could have been kinder, but it could have been a whole lot worse and Hammers also dodged the real possibility of Scamacca coming back to haunt them!

    Europa League draw

    Quarter-finals:

    AC Milan v Roma

    Liverpool v Atalanta

    Bayer Leverkusen v West Ham

    Benfica v Marseille

    Semi-finals:

    Benfica or Marseille v Liverpool or Atalanta

    AC Milan or Roma v Bayer Leverkusen or West Ham

    The first legs take place on 11 April, with the second legs on 18 April.

    If West Ham can find a way past Bundesliga leaders Leverkusen, they will face either AC Milan or Roma.

    The semi-finals are scheduled for 2 May and 9 May.

    Dublin Arena in the Republic of Ireland hosts this season's final on Wednesday, 22 May. Although the ground despite having a capacity in excess of 50,000 is going to be too small if the final should turn out to be between West Ham and Liverpool. The sheer weight of numbers would necessitate a move to Croke Park which has a capacity of 83,000.

    Logistically Croke Park would be best, but the Aviva Stadium is 'owed one' because of all the inboard investment there was there to facilitate the Irish Rugny team, there is also the need to have games at the Aviva to 'compensate' for lost revenues during Covid.

    As usual the fans and their safety don't appear to matter to U.E.F.A, only the money! - Ed

  • Why Not Try £20 Is Plenty, It's Not Too Late!

    Currently remaining tickets for tonight's crucial game against Freiburg for a place in the Europa League 1/4 finals are still available on General Sale, but with prices starting at £35 for Adults and £15 for Juniors.

    Quite frankly that is ludicrous! With nearly 10,000 tickets unsold, surely the adult price should have been £20 or even lower and kids should have been only £1.00. OK, some people would moan about having paid more than late comers, but surely filling the Stadium is more important given the opportunity it gives the team to progress.

    The club MUST act quickly now and drop the exorbitant price they are demanding! Act now those in power, you know it makes sense! - Ed

  • One By One Managerial Targets Sacked!

    Hot on the heals of Rafa Benitez being sacked by Celta Vigo, after less than nine months. Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri has resigned after a fifth defeat in six games in all competitions, Sarri jumped before he was pushed so essentially was sacked!

    63 year old Benitez and 65 year old Sarri have both been linked with managing West Ham over the years, but surely given their age and their recent underwhelming results attained, neither will be on Tim Steidten and David Sullivan's short list to replace David Moyes.

    Benitez who joined the La Liga side on 23 June last year and departs after winning just five of his 28 league matches in charge of Celta was once coveted by Sullivan, he was even offered the manager's job but chose Real Madrid instead of the Irons when Real came calling.

    Hammers represent an ideal club for a forward-thinking successful young manager who is already going places to cut his teeth, being linked with either Benitez or Sarri would represent a backward step, more akin to the West Ham of old!

    There is plenty of managerial, talent out there, IF the Board can offer them 'proper' financial backing, and in Steidten we trust, so thses COULD be exciting times for West Ham, but Benitez and Sarri? No thank you, busted flushes that are too old! - LN
