There has been much speculation as to whether West Ham will be splashing the cash when the January transfer window opens, the recent cash injection the club received following Daniel Kretinsky's purchase of a 27% stake has led many to believe that David Moyes will be going on a January sales shopping spree.
Without wanting to put too much of a dampener on proceedings, the money coming into the club will almost entirely be used to stabilise the club's day to day finances as well as being used to offset the huge loses sustained by the club during the worst of the Covid pandemic.
There will be little, if any, money to spend on new players and loans are not currently an option due to Alex Kral and Alphonse Areola occupying the two loan berths that are allowed. Neither player has had many opportunities to show their true worth, but it would be rather strange if they were not retained by the club in way or another.
Kral is the around the same price as Areola to sign permanently, but he has played much less than the Frenchman and might still be viewed as a bit of a risk. That said David Moyes will be looking to ADD to his squad if he possibly can, it is believed that was his intention BEFORE Angelo Ogbonna's injury.
Newcastle will grab all the headlines during the window, but they are and will be for some time a club that is in transition, players arriving at the toon will not necessarily be mercenaries, but they will be of a certain type, the type David Moyes doesn't generally like, but that won't prevent Eddie Howe from attempting to hijack Hammers' targets that they already have lined up.
Good deals are few and far between during the January window, but faced with fighting on four fronts David Moyes might well have to bring in another face, or even two! - Ed
