Did Peter withe
Really play for Newcastle? Blimey mac I dont remember that,as you say you always associate him with villa because of their European Cup win...how the feck did that happen?off the top of my head without googling was it 79 or 80 & Graham Taylor in charge? As for the Big Match,Brian Moore & that theme tune will always be a special memory for me,Sunday afternoon straight after the program out on the rec pretending to be devo,Billy Bonds or sir trev!!
Couldn't help myself just looked 1982 & Tony Barton!! Who....
Ron Saunders spat the dummy Feb that year
I remember that clearly it was over a contract i think and he walked leaving Barton in charge and he achieved that famous European cup win.....Gary Spinks i think a young raw gk had to come off the bench and made his name as they say.
I remember Peter Withe with
I remember Peter Withe with Nottingham Forest never new he played for Newcastle. He was a proper striker. Like David Cross. They could not play today.
I didn’t remember Peter Withe
I didn’t remember Peter Withe at Newcastle either, I remember super Mac strutting his stuff!
Super Mac
He had the bandiest legs ever ( I bet he couldn't pass a pig in a passage!!) But he scored goals for fun.He was from London & had a bit of a posh voice but the geordies loved him
Is that because of
Moyes bedding in policy Enfield:-)
Went to many games in the 70s
Went to many games in the 70s with my Grandfather,in my green parka with rabbit fur round the hood,we all had them,we always stood by the corner flag in the west stand, cameras never picked us up wish they did,i still cant help but look when i watch them games now,sad hey.
Got to say I found football
Got to say I found football much more enjoyable back in those times, the pitches, the tackles and scuffles, it was much more relatable than what we see now played on immaculate surfaces with little or no physical contact.
I think the fact it was not readily available made it better too, now with sky or bt sport you can watch a game every night or day.
Loved the fact football was 3pm on a Saturday afternoon too, much better!
No Social Media
No VAR. No Sky. Just one TV camera at a game high up in the Gods and nowhere NEAR the analysis of a game like today. Refs decision was final and off side was a simple rule that only women couldn't understand. Oh yeah, and football was a mans game and you could shoulder charge a goalkeeper into the net. The ball was real leather with a pigs bladder inside that hurt like f*ck if it hit you but at least it went in a straight line unless you had genius skill of Brazilian levels. No such thing as metatarsials in those days Proper game!
Good points deluded
Best thing for me you didn't have to get a ticket beforehand, get in the pub early on a Saturday & you either stayed in there to get pissed or you could just rock up at the turnstile on the day...Happy days
OMG
is that the Hovis music playing boys:-)
Nice 1
HG!;)
