Mikey's Boots Hard To Fill

Irrespective of where the club eventually finishes in the Barclays Premier League, one of the first orders of business in the closed season is for David Moyes to acquire a 'top notch' striker. The problem is strikers are like gold dust and their price reflects that, having already been 'linked' with Tammy Abraham, Ivan Toney, Abdallah Sima, Adam Hlozek, Adam Armstrong, Youssef En-Nesyri and Odsonne Edouard, the choice seems endless, but is it?

Who ever arrives at the London Stadium has got some pretty big boots to fill, Mikey Antonio proved once again how devastating he can be as a forward in scoring his brace against Burnley last night, he did miss a couple of sitters as well though. Now if Antonio's hamstrings weren't serial offenders, he would probably be the League's top scorer or thereabouts, unfortunately he is never going to be available for more than half of the games throughout the season, and so the need for his 'replacement' is critical.

The problem is there aren't ANY strikers similar to Michail Antonio clearly available, his game play is unique and there isn't a single defender who relishes playing against him, he literally bullies them! Who ever arrives at the London Stadium will need to be the polar opposite of Sebastien Haller, 'Le Sulk' was sold on to Ajax for a £20 Million loss, such was David Moyes's desire to remove Haller's negativity, lack of pace and lack of strength from his team.

Haller's absence was covered by the arrival of Jesse Lingard, although not an out and out striker, his energy was exactly what was needed for the team, since his arrival results have been superb, especially given the amount of injuries that finally started to accrue.

Moyes will probably adhere to his 'Red Bull' policy of young and hungry, as opposed to old and past it, it seems a very simple concept, but one that has alluded West Ham's recruiting system up to now. For too long West Ham has been the final destination for players who are past their prime, they have usually been injury prone and have all arrived on massive wages, this has to stop, and will do as David Moyes looks pretty determined to push his blue print through.

The financial ramifications of the Covid pandemic are still filtering through company accounts, and West Ham just as every other club have been hard hit, but maybe fans don't need 'big name' players, preferring those who are prepared to put a shift in and are hungry to progress by buying into Moyes's plan. - Ed

What Is It With Moyes And Benny?

David Moyes is one of the most experienced managers around, anywhere, so his actions are questioned by few and are usually justified by their end result, therefore it would be churlish to suggest that he has 'lost the plot' when it comes to his interaction with Said Benrahma.

A similar situation occurred when Jarrod Bowen arrived at the club, Moyes seemed to freeze him out and rarely used him initially, it was as if he had to learn the 'Moyes way' first or not play. The Hammers' manager has been fierce, some would say savage, in his criticism of the fleet of foot Algerian.

Rumours abound that Benrahma was NOT a Moyes signing, giving credence as to why the player has had such a lack of first team opportunities. Benrahma started the game against Burnley because his manager had very little choice in the matter, Mark Noble's calf injury meant that Manuel Lanzini was drafted into the midfield, a role he played superbly well, this left the gap for a creative winger/attacker which Benrahma filled equally well.

There are only four games left of the season, and Hammers are still in the running for a European spot, with a slim chance of actually reaching the Champions League should they win all their remaining games, and others, particularly Chelsea, fail to win all of theirs.

If all goes to plan there should be fans in attendance at the London Stadium for the final fixture, how fitting it would be if the game confirmed the prospect of Euro outings for the next season? But to get there David Moyes needs to be slightly more malleable, and utilise the talent that Benrahma obviously has, it is to be hoped that 'A Moyes can change it's spots". - Ed

Never thought you would see that or i'd write it but just looking at Leicesters run in they have Barcodes/Manure/Chelski/Spuds....as well as of course the cup final against Chelski so if they don't win friday night against the Barcodes we could catch them if we keep up performances like last night and it might mean we are cheering for the spuds(WTF!!!!!!!)on final day something that any self respecting Hammer can bear to think about.....football sometimes make strange bedfellows but do we really want that? i feel dirty just thinking about it

Moyes 'Poker Face' Injuries

Ahead of what has become an increasingly important fixture against Burnley at Turf Moor this evening, Hammers coach David Moyes has been exercising his injuries poker face. He has already miss led certain sections of the media with his ambiguous comments as to the fitness of Mikey Antonio, Aaron Cresswell, Authur Masuaku and finally Declan Rice!

The only 'concrete' bit of information regarding player availability is that 'Les' Dawson has served his one match ban, and will be in the squad, other than that you will need to have played poker with David Moyes in order to ascertain if he is telling porkies, or if he is just unable to confirm or deny who will play as he has to wait on late fitness tests for the plethora of players already mentioned.

Hammers lack of strength has obviously emerged to haunt the club, so there is no point in banging on about it as we are where we are and nothing is going to change the situation. Moyes has ducked, dived and shuffled his pack admirably, but he is down to the bare 'harry's' and has no room for manoeuvre.

Hammers unlikely push for Europe could finally be derailed this evening, but it won't be for a lack of trying, perhaps the footballing gods are the only option for Moyes....therefore let us pray! - Ed

Villains Can Be Irons' Heroes!

At the end of last season Aston Villa managed to survive relegation by the skin of their teeth, their cause helped in no small measure by West Ham beating all the Villain's fellow relegation strugglers.

This season, despite an early flourish, Villa's European competition aspirations have been blunted, but they secured their Barclays Premier League survival way ahead of schedule, and had it not been for their main man Jack Grealish picking up a long term injury who knows how far they might have progressed.

By a strange twist of fate, Hammers euro aspirations are very dependent on the results of not only our own games, but also by Villa's. The Midlanders play Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham and Chelsea among their remaining fixtures, the results of which have a massive significance on Hammers' unlikely push for Europe.

On paper Hammers European Championship chances are between zero and none now, following the disastrous results against Newcastle and Chelsea, however, if the Villains can take points off of those teams in and around the top six they would effectively be playing for the Irons, a situation that would cause much confusion to John Terry the second in command at Villa Park.

With West Ham players currently 'dropping like flies', Mark Noble being the latest addition, the team needs all the help it can get, and although it is an unusual source, it is to be hoped that the Villains can 'do their bit' to get the Irons into Europe. - Ed
