BT Were Hoping For Hammers FA Cup Loss
A week can be a long time in politics, and two weeks a lifetime, but two weeks in football can be an eternity! Just ask the chaps at BT Sport, when as soon as the FA Cup 3rd round fixtures were announced, their programmers looked for the 'best' potential cup upset and decided, following 'Oxford Gate', that Gillingham's home tie against West Ham United meant that they could have a 'giant killing' on the cards, after all, it's what the FA Cup is all about isn't it?
Of course hindsight is a wonderful thing, because the tie was scheduled while Manuel Pellegrini was still Hammers' manager, his disdain for the cup competitions was well documented, and his approach and team selection for cup matches confirmed his particularly stubborn stance. BT Sport were licking their lips at the prospect of the 'mighty Hammers' being embarrassed by 'lowly' Gillingham.
However, that was then and this is now, one of the first public statements newly appointed manager David Moyes made was to confirm his desire for the club to progress in the FA Cup, he clearly understands that a 'Euro' spot is out of the question through the team's Barclays Premier League potential finishing position, but knows how important the FA Cup is to fans who have been starved of the excitement the competition can bring, it may not be a 'big earner' now, but fans still love it!
There is no point in 'saving' players for the final push, because by doing so the management would essentially be writing the season off, fears of relegation have been temporarily suspended following the thumping of Bournemouth, and while future opposition will be far more difficult to beat, the fact is the entire squad, bar a couple, were playing as if they had lead in their boots, David Moyes is known for his fitness regimes, and his desire to have his players to be playing on the front foot, play a pressing game but also being capable of hitting teams on the break.
The 'new manager' bounce won't last forever, but given the fact that the team was perpetually so massively under performing, Moyes would be extremely hard put to do any where near as badly! His back to the basics template works, and this time he has a much bigger arsenal at his disposal to work with compared with that of his last tenure at the club, so essentially all he has to do is get the players to perform to the level that they are capable of, by getting players to play in a position that brings out the best of their qualities, Felipe Anderson playing in the middle means support for Haller, and Moyes also knows what a talent Pablo Fornals is, he even knows to play Authur Masuaku as an advanced left winger, it's not rocket science, just basic logic.
Hopefully Moyes doesn't go too gung ho though, if 'the beast's' troublesome hammy is playing up, then rest him, no one will accuse the manager of playing a 2nd strength team if he is ensuring the player's availability for the league matches to come because of his fitness issues, but by the same measure fans will want to see a team full of purpose that doesn't underestimate the opposition, but gives them a hard game that culminates in a victory that will be seen by a huge hunk of the football viewing nation.
Bt Sport were looking for an upset, it is to be hoped that Hammers can upset the upset! - Ed

Player Power
Forums:
What I am about to say is meant to be constructive. We have had two good experience managers in Bilic and Pellegrini. Both finally had Hammers playing well and pushing up the table then all of a sudden we start to lose game after game until we are near relegation and both then get the sack. I find it odd that these managers go from being so experienced to quite incompetent. We go from excited that they are the new manager to “can't wait for them to be given the sack”.
Will it now happen to Moyes? Will he get us at the right end of the table and then the next moment lose just about every game till we are on the verge of relegation, and he goes?
What is this force that makes it happen that can destroy a manager, it must be Player Power. You see it in other clubs and WestHam are no different.
Mark Noble said in his message to the fans about Pelligini “but I do feel like we need to walk before we can run and build something”. Noble has been a professional in the top end of the game for over 15 years. If by now he does not know how to “walk”, what is the team to do? Keep in the bottom half of the table so Noble understands the instructions from the manager and he always gets a game.
Based upon what Noble is saying if Pep Gardiola or Jurgen Klopp became our manager, they would expect us to run, and they would meet the same fate as Pelligrini and Bilic. Sheffield United are way above us with mostly Championship players and they clearly know how to walk and run. Why don't we?
The facts are, you cannot learn to swim by paddling and you cannot learn to run until you run. If you can't walk, drop out of the team.
I don't know the answer to Hammers constant plight, I'm just a fan sitting on the outside looking on. All I can do is refer to historical performance and by what the loyal servant Mark Noble said. Which reminded me of Bobby Moore (who was another servant to hammers and another massive influence in the dressing room) who in the last few of his seasons we were playing to his level until he finally left for lower division Fulham. Is it the same for Mark Noble, I don't know.
In this latest WestHam drama I am asking myself, is Mark Noble the Protagonist or the Antagonist.
Generation thing?

Cresswells tackle that was a red only to be overturned as a yellow i wonder how many of us older orgers saw it as a red card and who thought great tackle....i am of the latter persuasion because being able to tackle is being taken out of the game even the slightest contact is frowned upon and players hurling themselves to the ground screaming and rolling in pain getting up once they see an opponent has been booked it is laughable......cresswells tackle while hard was fair IMO he got the ball and yes the follow through caught the player but it was nowhere near as bad as was made out again IMO.....watching football from early 70's onwards on mud ridden boggy pitches when men were men a tackle like that would be considered light if anyone saw a Bonzo/Lamps senior/chopper Harris/Bremner tackle player/ball/hoarding all involved only for the player to get up carry on knowing full well they would get a chance to return the favour in kind and the refs just letting them get on with it.....days gone by maybe but Hard but fair tackles can get the crowd going as much as a goal it shows commitment and Fans of every team like to see that....so how did you see that tackle in context?
F.A. Cup Run

The Cups here and West Ham are live on BT sport tomorrow no prizes for guessing why now!! so can i please implore Mr Moyes to put out a strong side and those players picked to put in the effort and banish the recent cup horror shows that have made us the number one pick for the TV channels and supporter of lower league clubs because of our frailty. I want tomorrows game to be a one sided hammering but in our favour this time:-)and i have more than usual invested in this game having just got my nails done and i do not want to be chewing them off because of the teams display! COYI make us proud.
Today was the first step

in what hopefully is the start of a fight back to get us up the ladder into a safe position. For me the next 4 games are going to be important. We have Sheffield away, Everton at home Leicester away and BHA home so we need at least 7 points from those games to give us a chance.
Next weekend we have the fa game against Gillingham and after watching the after match interview with Moyes I am feeling he will field a strong team. He stated that he wants to go all the way in the cup and to do that he and the players have to stand up so hopefully unlike our other past few managers he will keep the team that played today as they then have a week before the Sheffield game to recover. A cup run with intent is what all us fans are craving so let’s see.
It will be an interesting month in the transfer market for us to see who goes and who we bring in, for me Sanchez and Roberto definitely need to go and I would like to see four players brought in. Another goal keeper is a must and I would like to see another holding midfielder and left back and right back come. As many have said Masuaku should be used as a backup left midfielder so we need someone in case Cresswell gets injured or suspended. We need someone to cover for Fredericks as Zabs is good but no where near quick enough to help defence and another decent holdings midfielder to take Sanchez’s spot.
The other thing that made me happy like I stated on another post was the way Moyes took no credit for today’s win as like he said he has only been back for a couple of days but the passion he showed after the game going onto the field and shaking all the players hand instead of just standing on the sideline waiting for them to come off, to me that shows passion and we have been lacking that from the manager and the players for too long.

Will Moyes Amaze With His Line Up?
Back in his dug out, 25 yards from the pitch at the London Stadium, newly ensconced Hammers manager David Moyes will have all eyes focused on him and his team selection for the crucial six-pointer against Bournemouth this evening.
The irony that the Two David's are reunited with the other David as an eventual result of each party NOT getting their first choice will not be lost by many observers, the Hammers co-owners wanted Manuel Pellegrini to turn things around, thus saving them an expensive pay off, whereas David Moyes probably thought that he would be a shoe in at Everton following their struggles, alas it was not too be, as Carlos Ancelotti jumped in ahead of him!
Having felt more than a little hard done by during his initial spell with West Ham, Moyes insisted on an eighteen month contract with an option to extend before he would join the maelstrom that the club has become. Fans dreading a dour brand of percentage football will be hard to win over, although this time Moyes does have some ammunition to work with, although any transfer targets that he is involved in will carry the caveat of the signing of Jordan Hugill, an unmitigated disaster of the highest order.
Given the side's atrocious defensive record, there is a strong possibility that Moyes might deploy a 5-3-2 formation in order to be able to flood the midfield in a bid to stave off being over run on a constant basis. In order to implement a strengthening of the defence, something has to give, Felipe Anderson, Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini are all superb players on their day, the problem has been that 'their days' have not been often enough.
Moyes could gain himself a bit of instant popularity by dropping Carlos Sanchez from the squad entirely, and ensuring he never dons the Claret and Blue again! Another piece of instant gratification would be his overseeing the rebirth of Sebastian Haller as the striker that he really is, for despite criticism of many aspects of his management, Moyes has a excellent track record of motivating 'class' players who have gone off the boil for whatever reason, or never reached the heights that they were capable of.
Get Haller scoring, and the rest will fall in place, Manuel Pellegrini spent the vast amount of his managerial career with access to squads containing World class players in abundance, so not getting Haller to play to his strengths didn't seem to particularly bother him, whereas a 'domestic' manager more used to operating on a limited budget would more likely have moved heaven and earth in order to get their prized asset performing to their absolute maximum.
Around 16:30 Hrs fans will get their first glimpse of the 'new era', except of course it won't, just an old one revisited, groundhog day?

Hammers Get The Ugly Tart!
Love him or loathe him, ex- a million team's manager Ian Holloway always had a wonderful ability to describe football exactly as it said on the tin, and once famously, and probably a little misogynisticically described an away draw as 'pulling the the ugliest tart at a party, but at least she came home in the taxi".
And so, humbled at having tried to dine at the 'top table' with their Chilean 'Michelin Starred Chef', the West Ham United hierarchy have gone full belt and braces and elected to go for the full English, nay Scottish, fast order breakfast chef David Moyes to keep the locals from participating in another 'Burnley Gate'!
Spurned from getting the Everton gig that he so wanted by some Italian hotshot, David Moyes has elected to jump in to bed with a relationship he knows well, only this time he wants power of attorney for a year more then he was first granted, which to many ended unfairly. You know the story, stalwart stay at home replaced by more exotic cultured foreigner, a recipe that generally ends up with an expensive divorce, here is what the 'returning wife' had to say, through gritted teeth, having seen off the glamorous interloper.
‘It’s fabulous to be back, It feels great to be home. I’ve missed being here because I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed being around the stadium and I loved being in this part of the world and I missed the Club, so I can’t wait to get started. I’m feeling very proud that I’m back here at West Ham. But I think more importantly I’ll be looking to see what I can do and what I can make improvements to, how we can get some wins with the players and how we can get some quick wins on the field as well. ‘I do believe that the squad of players I’ve got here is a better squad of players than when I took over before, so I am looking forward to working with them"
Too bloody right Moyes, they did a 'Joe Hart' on you, and the only two reasons you have accepted the eighteen month gig is because your Manchester United pay off has finally run out, and you don't like doing football punditry, the latter of which is to be admired. Yes he has got a much better squad to work with than before, but he has less time than previously to turn things around!
Moyes' back room staff have not been confirmed as yet, (well not officially anyway), and it can only be hoped that somehow he can convince Stuart 'psycho' Pearce and Joe Cole to join him in putting the 'Irons' back in the team, triple sessions anyone? - Ed
