Four in a row?

hammergirl's picture

Saturday was fun boys was it not? but will it be the same next weekend against Fulham and the Tinker man? Well if we defend as poorly as we did for there goals on saturday i would not be so sure.We seem too suddenly have problems with balls crossed into our box and with Mitrovic upfront who is a real handful Diop/Balbuena will have there work cut out for sure hopefully a weeks rest will recharge Zabs batteries and help cresswell get fit for the game and most importantly lets start from the first whistle and not wander about misplacing passes for 45mins giving the other side a chance.Four in a row is very much achievable but only if we apply ourselves as if we are playing a top half team and not one bottom of the league because in many ways it will a tougher game after all what do they have to lose. one final point i must make is that has anybody else noticed how snugly those shorts fit Anderson:-) no lol i am surprised

Time For Hammers To Upgrade Half Time 'Entertainment' At LS

nevillenixon's picture

The atmosphere at the London Stadium on Tuesday night against Cardiff was a little tame initially, but it is amazing what a contentious penalty can do, so after Fabianski saved the pen the crowd were rocking. Half time things were looking up and most fans knew it would only be a matter of time before Hammers scored. The only fly in the ointment at half time was the excruciatingly naff 'entertainment' on offer, marching bands of the past were a thousand times more entertaining and they were bloody boring!

OK for many half time means a splash and dash toilet visit and a quick bevvy or two to wash down the not too expensive hot dog or meat pie, so many are spared what goes on at half time. The 'entertainment' has got worse and worse, originally ex-players would be asked what they thought of how the match was progressing, unfortunately results until recently have been so pony that the interviews conducted by the well meaning but hopeless young lady had become very embarrassing, so they replaced the interviews with a village fete type challenge that has nothing to do with football.

It is astonishing that the club's hierarchy haven't recognised this deficiency, the only reason possible is that they are too busy in the corporate dining rooms to notice the dross being served up at half time. Also of late there have been an increasing number of non Hammers related adverts on 'the biggest screens in Europe', definitely more Argos than Argus! The club are really missing an opportunity to engage with fans at half time, particularly the youngsters, the majority of whom would rather be seen dead than partake in the dross that is currently 'reeled' out.

The next generation of fans are vital to the club's continuing progress, by the time they are adults the Boleyn will be a thing of the past and like it or loathe it the London Stadium will be what they call home, the more that can be done to make match days a special experience, apart from winning, the better in order to garner the support of the next generation, and the generation after that. - Ed

Carroll In Last Chance Saloon - Again!

To many observers the fact that West Ham United are discussing an extension to Andy Carroll's contract seems to be a bewildering course of action, apparently the club do have an option to extend Carroll's contract for a further two years! Given the Big Geordie's infamous injury record, what on earth could be behind the logic of retaining his services? Up until now manager Manuel Pellegrini has invariably been correct with his appraisal of players, with the obvious exception of Jack Wilshere of course, so what has influenced the vastly experienced 'Pele' to make him even mention the words Carroll and new contract in the same sentence?

Marko Arnoutovic's predicted one month lay off whilst inconvenient couldn't have happened at a better time, if ever there is such a thing as a good time for an injury, the timing coincides with Carroll's return to fitness and a return to form for Javier Hernandez as well as a welcome showing from Lucas Perez. The impending possibility of youngster Xande Silva being added to the matchday squad now that he has overcome his early season injury means that Pellegrini, unlike previous Hammers managers, does have options and can select players to suit the games while also rotating those who need a break. 'Arnie's' enforced lay off will mean he will have time for his niggling knee injury to heal, he had looked very uncomfortable for the last few matches and always looked as if he was carrying a pretty serious but manageable injury, hopefully he will return full of vim and vigour.

So do the club need Carroll as well as all the others? The answer is not as straight forward as it seems, Carroll's reputed £80-90,000 per week was a huge deal when it was signed nearly six years ago and the figure is still high, but in the current climate £80,000 per week is standard money for 'FIFA' stars whether they are fit or not! There is also the consideration that having virtually rebuilt Carroll in the Kieron Dyer memorial ward at vast expense that the club would like to see some form of positive return, either by Carroll actually staying fit and playing or by him being sold on at a decent price, of course to get a decent price the club need him to be on a contract that doesn't expire next summer, it is a conundrum that will have the Hammers hierarchy in two minds.

Do the club 'throw good money after bad' or say enough is enough? Using a car analogy, the situation is a bit like owning an old Jag, lovely car but very expensive to maintain and you have maintained it well rectifying all the faults it had before, however when it's M.O.T is due it is going to cost a fortune to get it through, more than the car is worth, what do you do? Do you cut your losses or believe that all the money you spent was an investment and why should someone else get all benefit, at the end of the day it is just an old Jag.

It is worth noting that the 'Carroll talk' is emanating from the club ahead of the transfer window opening, it appears his fate is in his own hands or more to the point his own feet. Apparently, Manuel Pellegrini has adopted a sanguine approach with regards to Carroll, essentially if he can stay fit he gets a new contract, if he doesn't he will be on his bike. It would however be incredibly annoying if Carroll left the club and then went on to perform with fewer injuries for another club who would benefit form the massive amount of rehabilitation Hammers have forked out for.

Then again, Andrew Robert Carroll is an enigma, a story of what might have been and what could have and should have been, Carroll is a unicorn of a player, so rare are his skills in the air, on his day there are few if any in World football who can head the ball better, if only he had been born with the same genes as Pablo Zabaleta he could have become one of the most famous strikers ever, alas it was not to be and realistically only a wild optimist would believe that he will ever be injury free for more than a few weeks at a time at the most.

So either Manuel Pellegrini is 'bigging up' Andy Carroll to flog him off to the highest bidder, or he genuinely believes that Carroll can remain injury free for more than a token period of time. We at the Org openly questioned Pellegrini's sanity when he began integrating Robert Snodgrass in to the team, we are happy to eat 'umble pie over that decision so maybe he really does believe? So if he believes Carroll can stay fit, does 'El Pel' believe in Unicorn's and Santa as well? - Ed

Are pensioners Being Given LSD? They Must Be After Warnock Comments

Coupled with the "Well I thought I've never seen (Felipe) Anderson as quiet this season. He ripped Newcastle to pieces and yes he lost Bruno once but I thought Morrison and Bamba did well tonight, I can't remember their strikers doing much at all," Comments made by the affable but obviously ageing Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock, he also confided that he asked how on earth his team were losing 3-0 at the time from fellow manger Manuel Pellegini. What football match did Warnock go to, was it one of those football fantasy 3D console games?

With the exception of a ten minute spell in the first half which culminated in an unjust penalty that was saved by 'bargain of the season' goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski, the visitors were relatively anonymous, whereas West Ham were dominant and the score could have been 4-1 before half time. Shortly after the beginning of the second half, Hammers and in particular Felipe Anderson, really kicked in to gear which makes the Cardiff City manager's comments about Anderson seem even more disjointed, because Anderson was devastating. The look of fear exhibited by the opposition defence each time he ran at them said it all, they did not know how to cope with his speed and trickery.

By the end of the match, and despite getting a late consolation goal, the visitors had been run absolutely ragged, but not in Neil Warnock's eyes! We suggest he markets whatever he is on at raves and parties because it must be a powerful psychoactive hallucinogen. - Ed

Hammers Were Inspired To Cardiff Victory By Surprising Event

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Wed, 05/12/2018 - 09:14

Having secured a valuable 3-0 victory against Newcastle at St James' Park on Saturday West Ham were looking to gain back to back Premier League wins for the first time in a little short of two years, however possible due to enforced changes and squad rotation the atmosphere at the London Stadium was a rather stilted affair despite Hammers peppering the Cardiff goal and coming close to score on three occasions. The 'lack lustre vibe' continued until, with 10 minutes to play until half-time, Cardiff were awarded an extremely dubious penalty when Marko Arnautovic was deemed to have fouled Junior Hoilett in the box.

The London Stadium was a cauldron of seething resentment to the fans who couldn't believe their team's dominance was about to be cruelly denied, up stepped Cardiff midfielder Joe Ralls, but his low left footed effort was kept out superbly by Lukasz Fabianski. Resentment turned to absolute joy and the Stadium erupted, noise levels went through the roof and the home team seemed to gain anextra yard roared onby the now animated crowd, even the unwelcome sight of Arnoutovic having to be substituted before half time wasn't greeted with the dispair that would normally be expected.

'Arnie's' replacement Lucas Perez was not initially greeted with any enthusiasm at all, with many fans not able to comprehend Pellegrini not utilising Andy Carroll instead, but in 'Pele' they have a manager who they can trust, his judgement vindicated in a five minute second half spell where Perez scored a brace, the ex-Arsenal player's first Premier League goals for nearly two years. The fact that one of the assists for Perez's goals game from another player that Pele believed in when no one else did, Robert Snodgrass speaks volumes for the Hammers' manager's man management skills and perception.

Snodgrass left the pitch to a deserved standing ovation from all round the Stadium, his redemption and Perez's inclusion shows just why Manuel Pellegrini is the man to steer the club up the table, who knows how far? Although one suspects a certain Chilean pensioner knows exactly how far, City fans used to call him this gentle man, perhaps Hammers fans may end up calling him 'The Redeemer'. - Ed

Team Managment

mcbikeman's picture
Submitted by mcbikeman on Wed, 05/12/2018 - 06:08

Well we certainly have a manager who understands how to manage a team through injuries and in game decisions....and if we are to lose Arnie for a game or two then rather now when we will not be facing the best opposition....when Arnie pulled up last night with what maybe a slight hamstring pull how many times have managers kept players on just to see if its something they can get through only for them to tear it properly and out for months....not El Pel off you come son thinking long term not short term and how easy would it of been to put Carroll on but nope Perez came on and took his chances and that will be a boost to his confidence...3-0 game won off comes chicaritto for carroll and snodgrass who was playing well for Diagana this shows he is thinking of Saturdays game against Palace and giving players time on the pitch and others off for a rest....Wheelchair not on the bench again El Pel not going to risk throwing in him straight away but easing him back in....this is an important part of management and one he clearly knows how too do....things are changing at west ham and the revolution is slowly taking shape.COYI
