Martinez to Real??

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 01/11/2018 - 14:26

Im staggered by this news. Im also astonished that he is currently being paid 800,000 pounds a year by Belgium. Now maybe he's a likeable guy but come on. what has he done to warrant being the next manager of arguably the biggest club in the world? Belgium? well he and his waffler assistant Henry surely couldn't have done any less with that squad of players? id go as far as to say he fell short by going out in the semis. hazard, de bruyne, lukaku et al. Real would honestly pick Martinez over Pochettino? come on people.

Pathetic!

line up for tonight?

So with our midfield crisis and obiang not yet fit to start(mind games?)I was thinking about tonights line up in the middle of the park and whilst it would not be its strongest in the middle for us how about putting Andersen and snoddy there backed up of course by Rice.....if Arnie still not available then Diangana and Antonio wide and chicaritto upfront...I can hear the groans about Andersen but he's been poor out wide and yes I no he may not be the best tackler but he clearly has ability for the pass to open up the defence.....just with our current players available I think this may just be the way we have to line up tonight.

Cup Or League Priority Dilema For Both Hammers And Spurs

Starved of success for too many years, the fans of both West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are guilty of a serious case of denial this season. In the case of West Ham new manager Manuel Pellegrini the levels of expectancy went through the roof when the 'world class' man arrived and splashed out more money than Hammers fans and just about everyone else in football could ever have imagined. Talk of European qualification was not scoffed at ahead of the first Premier League encounters, sadly those hopes rapidly evaporated leaving a very uneasy feeling around the club, with talk of relegation and Pellegrini being given the heave ho after four straight defeats circulating. Fortunately the club's hierarchy either kept the faith because they believed in their man or retained his services because they couldn't afford to sack him! Either way the end result of sticking with Pellegrini was that the team were able to climb out of the drop zone and now, at least, look to have put fears of relegation to bed as Pellegrini's new recruits have started to gel.

Of course being West Ham United the team is always close to an injury crisis, and sure enough having up to nine first team players unavailable through injury and illness is what Pellegrini is having to cope with, throw in Mark Noble's ludicrous red card and the need for prioritising future fixtures becomes paramount. The reality is that unless Hammers embark on a 'Leicester City 2016' type of run, European qualification via league position is already out of the question leaving the Cups as the only real possibility of achieving a place in Europe. Why is European football so important? After all look what has happened to most teams that have qualified for the Europa league, there have been mixed fortunes but generally teams tend to suffer because of their congested fixture lists. The reason teams need the exposure in Europe is two fold, firstly the money, but more importantly the profile of an English club is massively enhanced by a successful campaign which in turn puts the club on the radars of top players and their agents.

Tottenham Hotspur, Hammers opponents on Wednesday evening in the Carabao Cup, played against Manchester City yesterday evening at the 'Superdome' losing 0-1, after Wednesday evening's match against West Ham at the London Stadium they then have to play an away match against Woverhampton Wanderers on Friday evening. Given their need to maintain their battle for a top four position and Champion's League qualification, Tottenham's manager Mauricio Pochettino has hinted at changes for the Carabao Cup. Before Hammers fans rub their hands in delight at Pochettino's dilemma it should be remembered that Tottenham have plenty of players ready and able to step up to the mark, the situation is entirely different for Manuel Pellgrini, not Mauricio Pellegrino as a couple of sites have mistakenly been calling him of late, Pellegrini must balance the need for success with a pragmatic need for survival.

It was always going to take a while for Pellegrini's ideas to be understood and acted upon by the players, but no one foresaw the extent of the injuries that he would have to deal with so early on in his tenure as manager. Luckily Pellegrini is not adverse to trying out the pool of youth players at his disposal which has already yielded results, whether through necessity or not the selection of youth players gives fans hope for the future, something that had been missing from the club for several years. It is to be hoped that Pellegrin can maintain the balance between 'blooding' new players whilst still achieving the necessary results required to climb up the table and go on a good cup run, if anyone can Pellegrini can. - Ed

Mark Tupper Or Alf Noble-Tough Of The Track?

The tragic events of the last few hours really do put things into perspective when it comes to lamenting the conceding of an injury time equaliser away to Leicester City, we had planned to do an article criticising the actions on the pitch of Hammers captain Mark Noble by comparing his approach and style of football to that of the old victor character Alf Tupper, the Tough of the Track.

After giving the situation a great deal of thought we thought we would go ahead with the article because no matter what, life does go on, even if our perspective is altered by tragedy. Saturday began with the disturbing news of Glen Hoddle's collapse and hospitalisation with a serious condition, then during the well contested and hard fought draw news began to emerge of the dreadful shootings in America, sadly a regular occurrence in that gun rich continent, then just as people were absorbing the events of the day came the terrible news and pictures of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha's helicopter as it took off from the King Power Stadium around an hour after the match itself, we can only but try to offer our sympathies and condolences to all the family and friends of those affected by such a series of awful events.

The match was played out in atrocious conditions, the early rain was replaced by a bitter wind that must have had some of the newly arrived 'foreign' contingent of both teams wondering what they had let themselves in for as they experienced a bit of true British weather as opposed to the Halcyon Summer that greeted their arrivals. Leicester had the best of the early exchanges but after their initial forays were penned back by an industrious and inventive Hammers team who performed admirably especially given the absence of two out of three of the recognised strikers, talisman Marko Arnoutovic was unable to take to the field due to suffering from a similar virus to the one that put Chicharito on his back for several weeks!

Hammers efforts were rewarded by a smartly taken free kick, earned by the impressive Grady Diangana on his first Premier League start, Felipe Anderson's deft delivery arrived on the head of the outstanding Declan Rice who nodded the ball towards 'Rocky the General' Balbuena whose first effort hit the post but who followed the rebound in faster than the leaden Leicester could and neatly nudged the ball over the line to give Hammers a well deserved lead. Mention should also be made of the 'Herculean' effort put in by the once much maligned Robert Snodgrass who ran a greater distance than any other player on the pitch from either team, indeed on another day he could have had a brace of goals to celebrate.

Everything was going swimmingly until captain Mark Noble launched himself to an unwise tackle that was never going to escape sanction, initially the tackle just looked like one made by a player whose legs aren't quite what they once were, and Noble does have a history of giving away needless free kicks, but on closer analysis the tackle was seriously dangerous, a real ankle snapper which was not committed with malice aforethought but the outcome could have been catastrophic for the recipient. As it was referee 'Lord Oliv(i)er had little choice other than to issue a straight red card, the consequences of which were two fold, Manuel Pellegrini's careful preparations for the match were left in tatters as his game plan was completely turned on it's head by the totally unnecessary sending off.

Noble is a decent and honest man who is Mr West Ham, but he will know more than most that he cannot get away with tackles and actions that were acceptable in the past but have no place in the modern game, it is as if he is still stuck in the seventies when it comes to 'the Tackle', and whilst there is every sympathy for the fact that he tries hard there is also condemnation for the collateral effect of his dismissal. Apart from putting the rest of the team on the line and ensuring they had to put in a ridiculous amount of effort to fend off a Leicester City team that at one point had five strikers on the pitch.

As is now known unfortunately a fluke deflection off of 'Rocky' Balbuena's back left the superb Lukas Fabianski wrong footed as the ball snuck in off the post with just a couple of minutes remaining, Hammers could have 'nicked' the result in extra time had Angelo Ogbonna taken either of the two opportunities that presented themselves during the final frenzied minutes. Overall a draw was a fair result given the fact that Hammers were forced to play over half the game with ten men, the immediate implication of Noble's rush of blood means that Declan Rice is the only member left of the midfield trio that had shown so much promise, it also means that Manuel Pellegrini's options in midfield ahead of the important Carabao Cup match against Tottenham have become extremely limited given the injuries to Carlos Sanchez, Jack Wilshere and Pedro Obiang.

It is highly unlikely that the club will try to appeal Oliv(i)er's decision, to do so would run the risk of further sanction by the FA for a tackle that even when viewed with Claret and Blue glasses on was inexcusable in this day and age, 'Marky' the fans love you, but is up to you to keep the 'love' by not getting yourself sent off so stupidly, it's not as if it hasn't happened before is it? - Ed
