Once again we find ourselves at this time of the season with absolutely nothing to play for ,pretty much safe and even a couple of wins wont improve our position ,well not by much anyway ,it would be so nice to be involved in a cup comp i know we still face a couple of the big boys and usually when we've got nowt else their our cup finals, the only thing is now Slav can experiment with some of the academy players that never seem to get a chance ,when you take into account the upcoming internatioal breaks and now the F A cup breaks it makes it a long bloody season

Olivier Award For Worst Ref But He Sparked The Fire!

There is bad referring and bad refereeing but Michael Oliver really has put himself up for one of the worst referees that have 'adjudicated' at the London Stadium with his astonishing inept and possible bias against West Ham as he oversaw a catalogue of officials errors that included the allowing of a goal, however well took, that was clearly the result of a foul by a Baggies player, and the denial of a clear cut Feghouli goal that was mysteriously ruled off side, the situation aided and abetted by some spectacular dramatics by the well proven 'professionals' at the heart of the visitors defence. Ironically Michael Oliver might have single handedly have helped to bring a proper atmosphere to the London Stadium, despite the frustration of conceding a late equaliser no one can question the commitment of the team or their manager as Slaven Billic and his assistant were both eventually sent to the stands due to their anger at how decisions had consistently gone against their team throughout the match. The noise and feeling within the Stadium were reminiscent of the old Boleyn ground, and were definitely the best of the 'daylight' games this season.
Sometimes it takes a bit of injustice to galvanise the players and the crowd, well there was injustice in abundment and the players through goal scorers Feghouli and Lanzini helped bring about some form of order, unfortunately victory was denied in the closing seconds which left a feeling of two points lost rather than one point gained. Truth is Andy Carroll would have had a field day given the amount of crosses that went in to the box, but quite rightly the club opted to NOT put him into a situation where he could sustain yet another long term injury, in the Big Man's absence non one really stepped up to the plate, despite antonio giving it a go, and unfortunately Slaven Billic elected to bring on Calleri when on reflection Fletcher would have been a better option. Calleri was woeful and contributed less than nothing in an otherwise compulsive team performance, especially bearing in mind that West Ham did not have any recognised striker to call on. Carroll and Sakho injured whilst record signing Andre Ayew has only just returned from AFCON duties.
If passion and commitment was what the crowd wanted, that is what they got in spades, they may not have seen a win but they certainly saw a victory, team spirit and the crowd as one, priceless! -Ed

West Ham Still Have Best Stadium Announcers

Since the move from the Boleyn Ground to the London Stadium there have been a few problems, most of which blown out of all proportion by media hounds and jealous supporters of other clubs less fortunate. The 'branding' of West Ham United London has been slick and efficient which is what is necessary to survive in the cut throat world of high end business supply, and whether you like it or not that is what the Barclays Premiership is all about now. Back in the day when it was possible to buy peanuts for a tanner a bag from the bloke in the brown jacket who would throw you the packet and then get you to pass the money down the line, global exposure was something that was read about in the now defunct News of the World, and it wasn't about football club branding! The London Stadium represents a giant leap forward and despite it's niggles will become an incredible home for West Ham once things have settled down a bit, of course success on the pitch will make all the difference and it is hoped that the remainder of the season will see Hammers pushing higher up the league, although achieving last season's heady heights is unlikely but not impossible.
One match day aspect that has fortunately been retained from the Boleyn is the match day announcement team, they are still accessible and are able to make a young fans day. Slightly self indulgent this, but despite incredibly short notice they managed to squeeze in a 'happy birthday' during the announcements at half time during the match against Manchester City to ed junior who had been incandescent with rage at the score, the smile on his face and the hug he gave when they announced his birthday were priceless! Never to be forgotten, it takes quite a lot to impress a seventeen year old nowadays....His happiness was compounded by the victory over Southampton which he saw as pay back to their gloating fans who had used the canvas covering the gaps at the London Stadium as a trampoline as they mocked the home fans in the reverse fixture!
A couple more victories and even the most paranoid of supporters, still scarred by the relegation with over 40 points nightmare, will be able to breathe easy and look forward to another season at the 'top table'. Settling in at a new stadium was always going to take time, and perhaps expectations were a little unrealistic? However there is a whole new generation of young Hammers fans coming through and to them the London Stadium will be home, at least the oldies will have the stadium announcers to remind them of the past. - Ed

Credit where credit is due.

Credit where credit is due, I think Carroll is playing probably his best overall game consistently for West Ham than his other seasons. On another thread I touched on whether we needed another type of play for the new stadium. Maybe we need a more mentally tougher type of player? So many players have been have been wildly inconsistent this year. The few players I believe that have achieved adequate consistency are Reid, big mick, obiang and Carroll. All these come across to me as mentally strong. I can waver feghouli as he is still adjusting to a new environment and maybe ogbonna playing through injury. The rest I have to question.

arsene whinger

does this guy ever stop? yesterday when chelsea scored a perfectly good goal I said I bet wenger moans about a foul. I said it sarcastically for even by his standards that would be stupid. but today of course wenger is moaning about the foul on his precioys bellerin. now im no arsenal fan far from it so for me keeping wenger there is great. but from their pov the man is an arrogant twit. so full of his 'we play my way' that its costs them loads of titles. I dont need to say it as we can all see it. theres no backbone in the side. his back four are all cry babies and his midfield has no enforcers. if he had swallowed his pride and bought a back four of basic solid ugly defenders hed have been the dominant force in england.

why did he take carroll off?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 04/02/2017 - 21:45

i was baffled by this to be honest. carroll had a great game again, he looked a threat hanging around the edge of the box always waiting for the cross to the far post. why did bilic decide to take him off at 55 mins? i know it was 3-1 but when you consider who we have on the bench..the likes of calleri etc what would have happened if soton had pulled in back to 3-3? who was he then going to bring on to try and get the 3 points back? i know its hindsight but i for one was astonished to see carroll go off so early and the 'shut up shop' started. i like the antonio carroll combo although i thought antonio wasn't very effective today at all. whats your view?
