    the lethargy that a lot of players showed last week seems to be endemic at west ham now,i lost count of how many games the players just did not look interested or bothered last season and already after just one game it raises its ugly head again.Now if you put last weeks surrender to being just a one off you hope the players have had a kick up the backside but there bottoms must of been sore after so many kickings last season!!.so we come to this saturday away to southampton who are not at there best at home and have not scored in i think 5 home matches but i am sure are pretty confident they will end that run on saturday,,when you lose like we did last week regardless of the opposition other teams smell blood in the water and already see the weaknesses inherent in this west ham team down the flanks they have redmond/tadic to run at zabaletta and pretty sure cressy will replace arthur this weekend...so you have to wonder what our coaching staff and manager have been working on this week because if we lose again i fear for us already because mentally we are not a strong side,apart from chicharito who never gave up we had 10 others just not at the races....obiang/noble one of those needs to be replaced by young rice ginge can come in for either ogbonna/reid who did not cover themselves in glory last week but that was the same for the whole team bar chciharito...wholesale changes no but players need to no 1 through to 11 no matter who you are or how big a fee was paid for you your out if you dont put the effort in that our traveling support deserves.

    It's been reported that bilic has been told to take more notice of the scouting reports about our opposition! Well make you mind up if you believe that or not but I'd say it explains why there seems little tactical plans when we play a club. It all seems like he thinks that's how he is gona play regardless of who we are playing. This is possibly why he doesn't use his squad unless he HAS to, rather using the right players for the opposition.

    The disaster of our home form has at last been discovered and is to be rectified by the time we kick off at home against huddersfield...what will be different well sit down before you read on but the green astroturf that surrounds the pitch is to be quote "replaced with a claret material" and again a quote from bilic "the contrast between the pitch and the surround will help players with there spatial awareness" well there you have it we will go unbeaten at home this season now...funny citeh/gooners/manure/chelski/watford/etc did not have that problem...ok ok chelski rectified there spatial awareness problem after the cup game but now we dont have any worries bring on real madrid lets see them cope with our new spatially aware squad now.

    As many sceptical West Ham fans had feared, the 'marquee' signing of William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon for a club record fee has hit the buffers. Sporting are holding out for their original full price, in addition they are demanding payment in full as opposed to the instalment plan West Ham were offering.

    At this point it would be very easy to say "ah the board trying to do things on the cheap again!" Well, what ever way it is viewed, William Carvalho is not a cheap deal, it is quite common for clubs to structure payments over two or even three years but Sporting have a reputation for being tough negotiators and are notoriously difficult to do business with, this is why Arsenal, Tottenham and a host of other Premier League clubs have given up trying to do deals with the Portugese giants.

    Recent reports suggest West Ham are ready to switch their attention to Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira as opposed to William Carvalho should negotiations 'hit the wall', Pereira is a 6ft 2in defensive midfielder who was born in Guinea Bissau, he is highly rated and was watched by Arsenal scouts earlier this year, he was part of the same Portugal team that won Euro 2016 last summer.

    Benfica’s Serbian midfielder Ljubomir Fejsa is another player in Portugal who has caught the eye of Bilic, known as European football’s ‘Mr Success’, Tottenham were tracking him earlier this summer. Fejsa, 29, has won ten consecutive league titles across three countries since 2008, four with Benfica, three at Olympiacos and three at Partizan.

    To many observers it makes no sense at all pursuing one exciting young player and then suddenly making a 'U' turn by going after another player who will have little or no sell on value, make no mistake, European clubs are accutely aware of the amount of money 'sloshing' round the Premier League and are keen to exploit it to the absolute max!

    Back to the Carvalho transfer saga, Portugese media still claim the move to West Ham is on, even going as far as to write that Carvalho is said to have a ‘total agreement’ with West Ham, and is expected to sign a five year contract, where he’ll make €2m per season, plus €500k in bonuses. Pere Guardiola, his agent and Pep's brother already told Sporting that the player’s mind is already in London.

    The most interesting story comes from Record, who claim Pere Guardiola has met Sporting twice in the past few days, Guardiola spoke first to club president Bruno de Carvalho, and then to directors André Geraldes and Guilherme Pinheiro. Record say Sporting are now demanding €38m as a straight fee and a further €5m in bonuses. Another outlet, O Jogo claims there are two things stopping the deal for now. Firstly, because it’s still not clear who will pay for the agent commissions, and secondly, because Sporting want to make €37m from the sale, that would force West Ham to spend a bit more.

    In a recent press conference manager Jorge Jesus was obviously asked about the transfer, and mentioned West Ham’s game against Manchester United which saw Hammers thrashed 4-0. “You either know more than me or… so I don’t have an answer to give you. Still today, he worked with me normally and he isn’t in the squad because he can’t play. We know he’s a wanted player, he has a market value and the team they’re saying… Well, yesterday, I watched their last game and he will have some difficulty (laughs). I don’t have any info from the president saying some club won the race.”

    If the deal doesn't get wrapped up soon Hammers will look elsewhere, but for once it won't have been for the lack of trying! - Ed

    so the first match has come and gone. Bilic went with a 4-2-3-1. no real surprise. this seems to be the 'in thing' formationwise. but is this a good choice? key players were out as well, so why go with this? anyway, assuming all are fit, whats your lineup and formation? personally id do something different than the rest as whats the point in lining up the same way as an opponent who has better players than you?

    Just sorted a bunch of tickets for WBA away and well chuffed. We try going to a couple of away games each season and this one has been regular for the past 3 years, great pub/curry house a 10 minute walk from the station/to the ground. Both sets of fans sit in there having a decent curry and beers with fast service, before the hammers having a sing song in the back area before departing for the ground. I don't normally eat before/at a game but this place (the Vines) has become a favourite as it ends up the local builder that has just finished our new place was the same guy that extended the Vines in Brom! Anyone else going? and interested to hear what the orgers favourite away games are?

    Ok two things, we didn't get off to a good start and as usual everyone's a manager and knows better than Bilic. It's the end of the world and all that. Being in my mid 50's and supporting the club for over 45 years through thick and thin, I've learnt to not get too worked up after 2 minutes. After all it's an occupational hazard being a West Ham supporter so I take it with a pinch of salt. Being objective I suspect Bilic won't see the season out, but what will be will be in the fullness of time.

    What does get my dander up though is the harsh reality that we have sold our great stadium and are nothing more than tenants who can have all our branding and heritage removed at a moments notice. We've had to sacrifice the first 3 weeks and have consecutive away games because of the World Athletics Champs.

    The notion that we are now a big player and chasing the top 6 in the Prem League is a misconception. Just because we have a 60k plus stadium which is all to plain to see is not actually ours, does not compute when we cannot compete in the transfer market. The reason we cannot compete is our owners are not rich enough despite their best endeavour.

    When we sold our beloved Boleyn Ground their was no getting 2p back on the bottle. That's it we were at the point of no return. Now I know our owners see this as a long term investment and they will get their money back with interest, when they eventually sell on. Only then will we see a change. New owners brings new money. I don't know when this will be, but until then we must continue on the journey and get on with the fall out on a week to week basis. Not much comfort in that I know, but now we've bought the ticket we'll just have to see what the raffle produces....

    Its a broad question. Im interested to know people's points of view. Looking at the club from a general view. Would we have been better off staying at U.P and being a 'Burnley'? that is building step by step squad wise, recruiting cheap players but players in a mould to fit the club? have we been so focused on becoming a 'bigger club' we've rushed it and made a mess of it all? I'm not saying the season is a disaster after one match, this is not what this post is about, its more general from the last season or so. the move, however nice the stadium is is proving a debatable one. for one thing we don't own it, its not ours, probably never will be. we share it with other sports and have no control over its use apparently as we're not allowed to use it right now. the move was part of the vision to propel the club upwards. but the question is upwards to where? where is it taken us and indeed where has it taken us? are we a club now that still can't attract top players but can spend more money on those 'better' than what we used to buy? i.e. arnautovic, hernandez etc? and if so, are we better off? are we in the Stoke, WBA, Southampton level? if so, weren't we on that level before the move? improvements don't happen overnight, its true. but I think we can watch Everton and see how they go. They haven't moved to a bigger stadium yet, but they have been backed financially and have bought players to propel their status a bit like us. But are we even in their league? for me the worst thing about all this is what we've given up. many thought that U.P was falling apart, it was out dated etc. But wasnt it still a ground we called home, a bit like Turf Moor to Burnley? Couldn't money have been invested into refurbishments instead? slight modifications of the stands to get a few more seats in? I know its all moot now, its gone and dead, but we can still debate whether it was right or wrong to move. If we take away the money from arnautovic, ayew…..as basically thats what we got for the move…a couple of big money but rather average players in terms of quality. we could still have picked up payet, lanzini and the rest if we'd stayed at U.P. So basically am I right in saying that the move basically gave us two expensive players in Ayew and Arnautovic? So was it worth it? I for one expected a lot more from the move. I was expecting this to be a season to really push on, it may still be of course, but what are peoples thoughts? does the investment into the team equal the sacrifice of the move? and should we have looked for a bigger name manager once we moved and enticed him with the promises of a big stadium and money to buy? is Bilic perhaps the reason we can't attract big names? he got hernandez sure, but is that the best we should expect? lets discuss.

    So what is it about our manager that just does not motivate our players? yesterdays shocking display aside why do our players just do not seem to have the stomach or a backbone for a fight..Bilic had said before the opening to the new season he expects to see a 100% commitment from the players but i saw no sign of it yesterday...we were ok until obiangs mistake after that the players attitude seemed to be ahh well thats the game gone and so it proved to be...no passion on the pitch bilic chatting to moanrino like it was a friendly and i think theres the rub Bilic is to nice...yes he has spats with players and banishes them from the team but that clearly does not work players sulk but still pick up there money and no sooner or later he will be replaced so why put effort in for him..maybe some players in the squad waiting for a chance are losing interest when they see us getting turned over regular and yet same players get picked week in week out with out a sniff of a chance....i ould find that hard to stomach myself and wonder what am i doing...well this coming week bilic and the players better show more than a 100% improvement and commitment because southampton away should hold no fear and they have not scored at home for something like 6 games and got a 0-0 with swansea we lose that and management and some first team players need to be rested for a long long time and others given a chance.
