  • Thrilled and a little disappointed

    One again Woy overlooks the chance to play starring Hammers in his friendlies, where the opportunity exists to try something a little different before cementing your game plan to exit the group stage of yet another major tournament. Now to me, whose passion for the national team has dwindled over many years to the point where I can barely be bothered to read the match report, this gives our boys a free weekend to recharge their batteries before a passionate London derby against the smaller team from North London (who incidently have 4 players in the squad). So in terms of staying injury free we're ahead of the game.
    However despite Woy witnessing the demolition of Chelsea at UP recently and giving lip service that Aaron, James and Mark were in his thoughts if they keep progressing,he has decided to not bother giving even one of them a shot. Now as I said above, great they stay injury free, but what if during these pointless friendlies Woy runs out of spuds and their ilk, due to injury or loss of form (not usually a reason for dropping players) in the run up to Euro 16 and has failed to prepare incoming players for the rigours of Intl football. We fail to progress from the group and Woy bemoans injuries due to his own shortsightedness of giving other players a chance to impress.
    Anyone care?

    This would be my eleven for saturday what do you guys think: Adrian,Jenks,Reid,Ogbonna,Cresswell,kouyate,noble,Moses,Payet,Lanzini,Valencia, Subs:Randolph,Tomkins,Song,Obiang,Zarate,Antonio,Carroll. Tomkins and ginge was poor last week so dropped tomkins we need pace up top so bought in enner id like see antonio start but bilic wont pick him so i put him on the bench.

    It's being reported that sakho is out of the game against Everton, so does it mean Carroll stays in for another game? I think it's imperative that Carroll goes back on the bench and Valencia replaces him. The other alternatives are changing the formation we play, and why do that when we are doing well? Like I have said before Valencia is the closest like for like with sakho so should fit in relatively easier into the team framework. Carroll isn't mobile enough or quick enough. We would need to play 2 upfront if Carroll plays unless we play more like Sam, and I'm not sure we have the squad to do that anyway. Also I'd bring back Reid, ogbonna and move Tonka to right back

    Sakho, Reid and Song Back To Face Toffees
    Slaven Billic has been handed some good news after Saturday's Halloween horror show against Watford, ahead of this Saturday's match at the Boleyn against his old club Everton. Reid's availability is most timely due to the Ginger Pele's ridiculous sending off! Diafra Sakho has recovered from a slight thigh strain, and Alex Song is due to take a place on the bench. One obvious conclusion about the Hornets match is that Andy Carroll should not start, he is best used as a very very expensive super sub, but if he does come on for the last 25 or so minutes of the match and then scores or provides assists, perhaps it is financially viable. The fact is that Andy does not possess the same explosive speed of Sakho, Valencia or Zarate, and is probably best used as a plan 'B'. Quite how Carroll will feel about his role as a sub remains to be seen, but in a way at least it is a good problem to have!
    The potential availability of Alex Song could provide his manager with a further conundrum, not so much for this Saturday as it would be imprudent to throw him straight in to what will be a very physical match (one that will suit a bull dozing traditional centre forward coming on for the last 20 minutes or so) so Song will probably come on in the latter stages. The issue will be, who makes way for him once he is back to full match fitness? Dropping Mr West Ham and current captain Mark Noble would be unthinkable at this moment in time, but as he is likely due to pick up a suspension the timing of the event will be dictated by that. However on a longer term, Who would make way apart from Noble?
    Not a bad problem to have, compared to West Ham of old where the issue would have been 'how on earth can we get a Champions League winning midfielder to come and play for our club?' - Ed
    NB: Our recent Poll confirms beyond doubt that Org members feel Carroll should only be used as a Super Sub

  • Best Holding Midfield Pairing?

    Best holding midfield pair : Obiang/Song...Kouyate/Noble....Obiang/Noble....Song/Kouyate...Obiang/Kouyate....Noble/Song....or would you include another squad member ,like Oxford,who had a great game against Arsenal in that role.

    This pairing need to possess a high degree of footballing intelligence and the ability to "read" a game. But all players need that nowadays, don't they?

    But simply put,one of the holding players is more offensively oriented, is often unmarked in the midfield,(or I should say makes himself available to be passed to) , additionally takes care of the playmaking and secures the rear space behind number 10(Payet) if his team is in possession of the ball. The second holding player is mostly responsible for defensive tasks,effective at closing down and breaking up attacks,ensuring that he doesn't wonder so he doesn't caught out of position. Ideally, the two players swap their roles in the system of play time and time again, in order to become less predictable.So who do you think best serves these roles in the 4-2-3-1 system that Bilic employs?

    I think the match commentator put it very well "this is how west ham have such a good record against the bigger clubs they up their game exactly what Watford are doing because they look on us as one of the big clubs and its a scalp to them ,"we were worse than poor today ,everything that could go wrong went wrong ,fact is it was bound to happen sooner or later what we must do now is put it behind us and learn from it ,that away record was unsustainable, all this defeat has done is bring us back down to earth the only people who will behappy tonight ,beside 's Warford fans are the motd team and big Sam

    Hammers take on the Hornets at Vicarage Road well aware that this fixture could have a 'sting in the tail'! West Ham fans of a certain age will remember 'high flying hammers' being brought down to earth by clubs placed well below them, particularly in Cup matches, Oldham, Luton and Mansfield spring painfully to mind. So this Barclay's Premier League fixture has banana skin written all over it, Watford worst scoring home record, West Ham best away record, in past times this would definitely end in a Hornets victory with Payet being sent off and Andy Carroll injured! But this is new West Ham, win lose or draw it is a team playing 'the West Ham way' but moved on in time, manager Slaven billic doesn't do mild acceptance of the inevitable, his ethos is why not have a go?
