Manu The Jewel Shines Again!

manuel lanzini on his way back to the top for west ham!

You have to go back to 2018, one of West Ham's brightest stars who had been lighting up the Premier League had just had an amazing season, he was off to play alongside his hero and mentor Lionel Messi for his country Argentina, ahead of returning to the domestic league where newly ensconced manager Manuel Pellegrini had planned to build his entire team around the 'hot property' that WAS Manuel Lanzini, the Little Jewel.

Signed permanently from Al Jazira in 2016, Lanzini dazzled fans and pundits with his exquisite displays that saw him coveted by a host of teams both domestically and in Europe. All that came to an abrupt end when on the 8th of June 2018, Lanzini suffered a ruptured anterior knee ligament injury during a training session which ruled him out of the World Cup, in addition to virtually an ENTIRE Premier League season.

When he did return to the fray, the Little Jewel was a shadow of his former self, he lacked confidence and had most definitely 'lost a yard' or even more! After a series of lack lustre performances punctuated by what seemed like an endless run of niggling injuries, many were writing the diminutive 28 year old off.

Large sections of the Hammerd faithful wanted him gone, while lamenting his loss at the same time, mentioning what might have been. Well, you know what? The Little Jewel is BACK! Back with a bang and more some, master tactician and player motivator David Moyes in cahoots with Chicken Kev, Psycho and the rest of the backroom staff worked out a different, deeper lying role for 'Manu', and he hasn't looked back since.

He showed glimpses that he might be on the way back to his pomp last season. particularly with his 'wonder goal' against Tottingham, but he found game time hard to come by and had to settle for 'cameo roles' from the bench. To begin with, David Moyes used Lanzini very sparingly this season, but his performances indicated that he would become more and more of a viable option.

Manuel Lanzini's first goal in the 3-2 victory against Palace yesterday was a thing of beauty, a joy to behold, a reminder of what he is about and hopefully a portent of the future, Manu is BACK, he never really went away! - Ed

Another Authur?

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Sat, 01/01/2022 - 09:22

West Ham could sign Authur Cabral from Swiss outfit Basel as early as this coming Wednesday, which would make him eligable to face Leeds United in the FA Cup and League double commencing on January the 9th. If you thought that the financial crisis was limited to British clubs, look again and see just how MASSIVE the financial fall out in Europe has been!

Well run clubs who have always managed to avoid football's normal pit falls have been powerless to cope with the effects on their finances brought about by Covid and its numerous variants. As a direct consequence, long time Hammers target 23-year-old Brazilian Authur Cabral is available from FC Basel for what seems like a bargain £10 Million.

Ajeti Alert!

Cabral has been banging in goals for fun this season for Basel, scoring 27 goals and providing eight assists in the 31 games in all competitions that he has featured in. However players who have a good goal scoring record in Switzerland rarely manage to convert that form in to scoring goals in the far more competitive Premier League, you only have to look at what an abject failure Albon Ajete was for West Ham, he was eventually sold off for a £4 Million loss to Celtic.
Ajeti looked the real deal on paper, but as the game is played on grass perhaps more consideration should have been given as to his suitability for what is an incredible frenetic and demanding League, it is the most watched League in the World for a reason!

Although £10 Million sounds relatively inexpensive for a young striker, he might sink or swim at West Ham, so careful consideration MUST be made ahead of his and ANY other transfer. David Moyes has overseen the construction of a tight knit group of players, the last thing he needs is for that 'togetherness' to be disrupted.

After this evenings game against Palace there is a HUGE eight day gap before the next fixture, plenty of time for Moyes to marshal his troops ahead of what could become Hammers BEST season EVER - Ed

No Left Turn For Moyes

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Fri, 31/12/2021 - 09:38
David Moyes in his Man Utd days looking very much like frank skinner!

Imagine the scenario, you are a top flight manager with over 1000 games under your belt, you have redeemed yourself from a particularly squalid period of time and moved on to re-establish yourself as a manager to be reckoned with, your team is doing unbelievably well when suddenly the wheels come off the wagon, big time!

You are an experienced manager and know these difficult periods are all part and parcel of the game, however now there is the constant scrutiny factor provided by mobile phones, social media and vociferous fan sites so your normal de facto mindset gets analysed out of all proportion.

So what can you do to change things? The obvious answer is to BUY more players, it is a time honoured course that has been exploited by the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, the only problem being the vast finances required to make a big difference quickly need the facilitation of a sovereign state or a super rich Oligarch!

The only other course of action is to tough it out until things start to improve, the risk is that the momentum or inertia that you have generated during the 'happy times', might well get lost forever if too many bad results are encountered during the 'troubled' times.

David Moyes knows better than anybody what his team needs, he knows better than anybody who he wants, but he also knows better than anybody how difficult it is going to be to 'smooth' his team's progress through its next tranche of important games.

Moyes' dilemma is that he has several players who WILL return from injury within the next few weeks, namely Aaron Cresswell and Kurt Zouma who have unfortunately been joined by Ben Johnson on the 'scheduled to return' list. Moyes has previously stated on numerous occasions that he will ONLY bring in players who can make the squad better, so his problem is WHO can he bring in who will accept the fact that they will instantly get demoted from the starting line up the moment the injured player returns?

With Zouma set to return within the next 4-6 weeks, the need for a new centre back, while still being important, is NOT as crucial as the need for a left back! Hammers are well served at right back, with Vald the Impaler Coufal, Ben Johnson, Ryan Fredericks AND young Harrison Ashby, however the left back berth is a totally different story.

Apart from Aaron Cresswell, Moyes only has Ben Johnson as a makeshift left back or young Alese to choose from, Authur Masuaku is his ONLY other option, the problem with Authur is that he is definitely NOT a full back and NEVER has been!

So while the need for an additional striker will make all the headlines and even the club's need for an additional centre back will get major coverage, it is the club's need for a left back that is most paramount during the impending transfer window.

Even when Cressie returns from injury, the paucity of a back up for the superb deliverer of crosses and set pieces must surely be addressed, having only three wheels on their wagon could see Hammers end up being left back, with nowhere to turn. LN

Moyes Wary Of Transfer 'Mole'

nevillenixon's picture

mole at the london stadium?

There has been plenty of media speculation regarding which players, if any, are going to join West Ham during the January transfer window. There is a perception that Hammers manager David Moyes, or 'dithering Dave' as he has often been labelled, has NOT provided head of recruitment Rob Newman OR the Board with a list of players he wants and has done nothing to ensure the club hits the ground running to avoid missing out on targets.

Nothing can be further from the truth, Moyes may be a bit of a ditherer, but his due diligence is one of the reasons Hammers are the lean mean outfit they now are. Moyes' refusal to buy players just for the fans or for the vanity of co owners is paying dividends and is a welcome change from the scatter gun purchases that were prevalent during much of the GSB era

Apparently the board is ready to spend money in this window and defence will be the key area but as yet there is no certainty as to whether one or two players arrive at the back. There are also obvious hopes that we will pick up a striker but also fears that unless the manager quickly makes up his mind who he wants, the club could be left behind on targets.

There is one very CLEAR and OBVIOUS reason why Hammers REAL targets are not in the public domain, quite simply clubs like Tottingham have a bad habit of 'sniping' Hammers transfer targets, so the less that is made public the better. However David Moyes did allude to the fact that "It is difficult to keep the club's interest in a player under a lid nowadays", and without putting too much of a conspiracy spin on things, it seems that the 59 year old Scot is worried that there might be a 'mole' at the club, someone who may have 'inadvertently' let slip Hammers transfer list in the past!

With less than 48 Hours to go before the window opens, all eyes will be on Moyes and Newman to see what business can be concluded, preferably sooner rather than later. Ironically Hammers now enter a period where there are an astonishing SEVEN DAYS between fixtures, at least for one fortnight.

Quality NOT quantity is generally Moyes' mantra, but he might have to compromise his 'high values' slightly in order to help keep the club going, even if the purchases might not be so crucially in need once players start to return from injury. - Ed

Tense Wait For Ben's Scan

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Thu, 30/12/2021 - 09:43
Hammers anxiously waiting on Johnson's scan

With 'Murder Month' drawing to its conclusion, the fall out for ALL clubs large and small is plain to see with players dropping like flies due to the insane schedule forced upon them aided and abetted by the new surge of the Omicron Covid variant.

Unlike many teams, Hammers have only had ONE fixture postponed, despite having to play a cup semi final and an extra European fixture during the month as well! Inevitably something had to give and unfortunately it was the rock that David Moyes had based his team on, namely a superb resolute defence that was able too transition from defence to attack so swiftly that it caught out virtually EVERY team the club faced in the earlier part of the season.

The effect of injuries to Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna was compounded by the loss of Aaron Cresswell in addition to Ben Johnson AND Ryan Fredericks. Essentially an entire back line absent from the fray, it is therefore no surprise that Hammers have been leaking goals and that it has had an effect on team morale.

Wednesday's 4-1 win at Vicarage road went some way to compensating for the 2-3 defeat against Southampton, who proved they are no mugs by holding our for a draw against Tottingham, despite being down to ten men for the bulk of the game. The problem for West Ham is that Ben Johnson pulled up with what initially looked like a repeat of the injury he had just returned from, namely a low grade hamstring strain, however we have been told it is NOT the same injury, but the exact nature cannot be properly diagnosed until anxiously awaited scan results can be fully analysed.

The reason for the time lapse is that Johnson was experiencing muscle spasm during and after leaving the pitch, which means the 'traumatised' muscle area has to calmed down and recovered before it can be fully evaluated. Muscle spasm can be treated in the short term with copious amounts of Ibuprofin or its more hard core realtive Nepraxin.

The problem is that although Nepraxin numbs the troubled muscles, it can mask damage that could get even worse if not accurately noticed. For most non athletes, muscle spasm is generally treated by visits to an osteopath for those who can afford it. It is usually necessary to have a two or three week intensive course followed up by regular monthly visits in order to free up the muscles that are 'trained' to lock up by our bodies' evolved defensive system that is not aware of how much anti inflammatory drugs can help.

Hopefully Johnson will be able to get 'unlocked' soon, but even once relieved it can take some considerable time to get the confidence back in trusting that there will be no repeat of what is an unbelievably painful experience. This is written from personal knowledge of the procedure...ouch!

With Johnson suffering from spasm at the least and Cressie dealing with a chipped bone perhaps Moyes WILL have to bring a left back in during the January window, either that or throw young Alese in at the deep end, because it is now blatantly obvious that Authur Masuaku is a defensive pile up just waiting to happen and can ONLY be used as an out and out winger.

Players don't come cheap during the January window, but good ones can be attained, after all, Jarrod Bowen arrived during one such window in 2020. - LN

A brief update regarding Moore 6 Legend (Stan)
Here is a message from Stan's son
'Hi Nev and all the team at the Org.
Thank you all and the boys for your concern about my Dad. He hasn’t been all that well at the moment, not really in a good place either. He suffers really bad with high blood pressure and the doctor has advised him to not watch any of the live games. My Dads mental health has also took a battering as well.
Would just like to thank you all again for your concerns regarding my Dad. He hopes to be back in the near future as I know how much he loves the Org. He sends his love to the boys and wishes you all a happy new year.
Take care. '

We all wish Stan a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him and his family back to the Org, we miss him!

Anyone else getting bored with the constant whingeing by tuchel, klopp etc?
Tuchel whingeing about his players injured or struck down by covid, but no credit to Brighton who are actually a pretty decent side!
Moyes is a breath of fresh air imo,we've had injuries to main players, ridiculous VAR decisions that have cost us a fair few points lately & the only real moan moyes has had was saying how rubbish our team was post saints game & rightly so!!

Diop in demand

Sadly He has not kicked on from his first season with us so could/Would Moyes do a deal if AC Milan/Newcastle really do come in for him? yes i know we have no centrebacks to cover other than the youth but if offered £30million would you be tempted with that cash i reckon Moyes would hit up Burnley for Tarkowski or Mee or maybe Dickie from QPHaa,

Sam Billings at Bournemouth is a player i would like us to sign he is everything Moyes wants in midfield big strong got a good engine on him can push Soucek/Rice for a place and also can play in centre of defence surely worth a look?
