So How Much Dead Wood Has Moyes Left?

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Thu, 11/11/2021 - 14:06

Since his 'resurrection' David Moyes has overseen the culling of a bloated and ageing squad, his task is not nearing completion as yet, but it is a long way down the road with few obvious contenders remaining for the old heave ho. Gone are players who didn't fit the mould, or more exactly players who weren't prepared to run, they are being replaced by young and hungry players who are desperate to give it their all, as opposed to players who were old and bloated who were disparate to all!

Those remaining on the 'hit list' are mostly nearing the end of their ludicrously generous contracts, contracts that were SO generous that they couldn't or wouldn't be matched by ANY other club. There will be little or no residual sell on value for any of the players involved, but there will be a massive reduction to the wages bill. Money that could be used more prudently like maybe ensuring the club's brightest and top players earn a commensurate wage, as opposed to the completely imbalanced and illogical wage structure that Moyes inherited.

Andriy Yarmolenko missed a golden opportunity to shine by playing in the most recent Europa League Cup game through injury, it was probably the last opportunity for him to be seen ahead of the January transfer window and essentially puts the kibosh on the club being able to off load him and his outrageous £115,000 per week wages.

Darren Randolph is also now surplus to requirements, although in his case he was at least able to play when called upon. The extra points gained after he arrived to replace the disaster that was known as Roberto who had been playing disastrously while Lukasz Fabinski was out injured, saved the club from relegation if you care to examine the results at that time. However with Alphonse Areola as well as Nathan Trott the obvious back ups to Fabianski, Randolph's days are numbered, the club might even get a few quid for the Republic of Ireland stopper.

We'll get to the other players who are 'on the brink' in our follow up article, until then be a Happy Hammer! We are massive! - LN

Hammers Need To 'Fisc Wash' The LS

West Ham United's incredible David Moyes inspired rise from relegation battlers to Champions League contenders has not gone unnoticed by those NOT associated with the club, both domestically and globally. New investor and board member Daniel Kretinsky's money will help stabilise the club's finances and provide a firm base for the club to move forward, success on the pitch will however eventually HAVE to be matched by success OFF the pitch.

One bone of contention that is bound to be increasingly raised the more Moyes' Boys succeed is the elephant in the room, namely the Stadium that the club calls home! The atmosphere at the NOT fit for purpose stadium has been transformed in the last year or so, it has gone from being a caustic "you sold your soul for this shit hole" opposing fan chant, to being a "we are massive" home fan blast retort!

Sooner rather than later, the funding of the Stadium is going to come under increased scrutiny, the better the team do the more questions that will be asked as to why West Ham should be 'sponsored' by the tax payer. On the face of it, it is a scandalous misuse of public money, Hammers should 'cough up' more towards the running costs, shouldn't they?

Well sandwiched between the words of the last sentence is the main reason such a scandal exists, 'RUNNING' or to be more exact, a sports and track legacy which was promised as part of the original hosting of the Olympics. Lord Coe and his sporting cronies, completely detached from any form of reality, 'enshrined' the provision of lasting sports facilities, including the London Stadium in their bid.

It is bewildering how the stadium was constructed, ahead of the preliminary work West Ham had already been in contact with the Sports authorities and the government with regards to using the stadium as it's home after the Olympics had been staged. All attempts were rebuffed, not just once but on a continuous basis by the blinkered quango appointed 'officials' in charge of the process during it's entirety.

The obvious course of action would have been to build a stadium that could then be EASILY converted for the more realistic AND profitable purpose of staging 'elite' football, funds could then have been generated to construct a more realistic purpose built venue that could house athletics, that usually draw vastly significant fewer numbers than football, on a constant 365 days per year platform much more cost effectively.

The perpetrators of this 'fiscal crime are long gone from public awareness, their legacy has been to waste a vast amount of public money soley in order to massage their own sporting egos and keep hold of the gold rolexes handed out around the time of the Stadium's design and bidding process.

There is no use in crying over the spilled financial milk and pointing fingers at those who are historically to blame, it cannot change the past, however with some intelligent thinking the best CAN be made out of a bad situation. But ONLY if ALL parties are prepared to draw a line under the past and constructively try to move forward, WITHOUT recriminations but with a purposful resolve.

Knocking down the Stadium and building a new one might be the most logical progression, but it is a course of action the authorities including the government simply will NOT countenance, despite it probably being the best course of action on paper. The only practical option that might get approval is for West Ham to take over the loss making stadium hook line and sinker in order to prevent the continued haemorrhaging of public money, re-engineering the Stadium would be costly but NOT impossible, IF the venue was geared soley for football, other 'contact sports' and music concerts, it could become financially viable.

Let's face it, no one seemed to actually think what was going to happen to the Queen Elizabeth Stadium after the Olympics with any sort of clarity, it is as if they were so pre occupied with winning the bid to host the Olympics to such an extent that they became 'host blind' to the costs. Crash test dummies could have come up with a better exit plan, travellers should be thankful THAT committee wasn't involved in any air or road safety guidelines!

Hammers have already turned the QE Stadium into a vibrant venue on match days, but given the opportunity and judicious investment the Stadium could become a 365 day per year attraction, seamlessly switching between football and other types of entertainment, especially music. Hopefully Kretinsky's wing man can do the job others have failed to do, and if it requires a bit of 'Fisc washing' so what? because Hammers are no longer coming in on just a wing and a prayer? - Ed

Suddenly It's Sponsor City At Stratford

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Thu, 11/11/2021 - 09:40

The soulless dome, the bowl of misery as well as the big white elephant, all of these names have been associated with the Olympic Stadium ever since West Ham United took out their 99 year tenancy nearly SIX years ago! One element that has been conspicuous by it's absence has been a sponsored NAME, quite how such an iconic structure could have remained nameless for such a long time is bewildering and is a classic example of the LDDC's chronic mismanagement of the Stadium.

This impasse looked to continue ad infinitum until the government's decision to review betting sponsorship on shirts AND stadia gathered pace, there are as many betting adverts in the UK as there are cleaning products adverts on Spanish TV!

New shareholder Daniel Kretinsky's wing man Pavel Horsky who will be joining him on the board is a financial 'placer', his acumen in business circles being well known. His first remit is to acquire a new NON betting sponsor, while also finding a suitable company to sponsor the stadium at Stratford.

Foot locker are currently being mooted as a potential kit sponsor, but what about the Stadium itself? It may NOT actually be that fit for purpose, but it does look incredibly impressive, especially at night when it is illuminated. Furthermore, the surroundings of the Queen Elizabeth Park with it's wide open spaces skirted by a cleaned up canal that has plenty of match day food and drink outlets, as well as musical entertainment on it's banks, is a completely different world to that which confronts fans of Arsenal and Tottingham as they leave their stadia.

As those fans from North London know only too well, when you leave either stadium you walk straight in to a khazi, even Daniel Levy cannot polish a turd, although he does often try! So bearing in mind how astonishing the venue appears to overseas viewers, it should only be a matter of time before a high profile 'quality' sponsor can be found for the Stadium naming rights.

We have mentioned it in the past, can you imagine how stunning the Olympic Stadium would look with a Tesla hologram being projected that could be seen for miles? Brands like Tesla are the future and it would surely be in the club's best interest to acquire a top brand sponsor IRRESPECTIVE of the short term financial gain.

The interest in West Ham has been growing at a fervent pace recently due to a combination of success both on and off the pitch during the last 20 months, Hammers global presence is an untapped resource and one that Horsky will be keen to exploit, previous attempts have been amateurish in the extreme and bordered on the embarrassing.

It can be safely assumed that 'professionalism' has finally landed near Stratford, ironically Hackney Wick has become the preferred arrival point for many supporters, the freedom of walking along the canal amplifies how naff the Stratford run' along with it's stop go paddle boards really is!

Hammers have been a 'sleeping giant' for too long, however as the current phrase that is trending goes "we are massive", let's hope Elon Musk agrees! - Ed

Rice 'Spared' England Duty

There we were at the Org pondering the injury to Angelo Ogbonna and it's consequences when someone mentioned "What if Decs gets injured playing for England twice in a short space of time ahead of what is quite frankly going to be a ludicrous fixture schedule?" This is a moot point that no longer has to be faced as it has become academic, Declan Rice has been sent home from the England camp with a non-Covid 'flu related' illness.

England's loss is Hammers gain as Rice will be able to have the rest he needs, as opposed to the rest he doesn't think he needs! With the Og probably unavailable for the rest of the season, Hammers cannot afford to lose any more of their star players through injury, and don't get us started on Mikey Antonio's 'insane' Jamaica Jaunt itinerary that requires travelling in excess of 15,000 miles!

The wheels came off the 'Hammerwagon' last season as a result of Rice picking up a nasty injury playing for England, there are many who say that the club would have qualified for the Champions League had he not been injured, they are probably correct! So Rice's lack of availability is a bit of a blessing, he won't lose his England place just because of missing two games, especially as one of them is essentially a dead rubber and he WILL be rested ahead of the frenzy that awaits him domestically AND in Europe for HIS CLUB!

Anyway, he's got to be around to help his best mate, Chelsea's Mason Mount, recover from some rather serious dental work that made him unavailable for the forthcoming International fixtures, maybe they are just skiving off though? - Ed

'Big Six' Myth Exposed

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Wed, 10/11/2021 - 12:01

The BBC's Gossip column is usually a decent barometer as to the state of play regarding players and their clubs, however it can also be a tapping up platform of the highest or lowest order, depending on your preference. In it's mission statement the Beeb underlines it's need for unbiased opinion NOT one that is corrupted by corporations or individuals.

Part of the reason the Beeb is publicly financed is because of it's neutrality when it comes to reporting, however that doesn't appear to be the case with their Gossip Column. In today's despatch they are again acting as unpaid agents for the so called 'big six' clubs! Here is one of today's annoying snippets delivered on Liverpool's behalf.

"Right now, Bowen fits the bill and Klopp even had some subtle praise for him post-match, as the German tactician labelled the aforementioned corner "a great set-piece." With a transfer unlikely to occur in January, the Reds will be linked with countless names between now and the summer window But if the uncapped Englishman continues to blossom in east London, it won't be long until a member of the 'Big Six' comes calling - and Klopp should be at the front of the queue."

What an arrogant and pretentious comment? In case it had eluded those at the Beeb, Hammers are currently 'top three' equal on poiunts with Man City, one place above Liverpool and three only three points off league leaders Chelsea. There are a whole generation of vacuous cow towers who work in the media, their blowing of smoke up the orifices of the 'top teams' is becoming boring whilst continuing to be more and more inaccurate.

Hammers have gone under the radar for nearly one third of the season and are only just getting anywhere near the credit they deserve, even now the doom sayers have jumped on Angelo Ogbonna's injury as a source of negativity involving the club. Sour grapes? Spilled Milk? and ref rhetoric have all been employed in order to protect the old order, but their case is more wafer thin than Hammers squad!

Linguard-Ave it

With the present turmoil at Manure I think this would be a great time to renew our interest in Jesse Lingard, I know we've been frigged about with him and he himself has messed us about but there is no getting away from it, we are going to need cover for Benrama who goes away to the African nations cup in January And what with Ed Woodward stepping down Oli getting the sack (possibly) the times they are a-changing at Man u so I Think of 15 million for Jesse would be very good bussiness. And I never thought I'd say this but Lingard has got more chance of getting European Football with WHU than Manure- Moyes likes him, Fits in with the team, not disruptive- Man u shot to pieces GOTTA happen ave it large

Karma Chameoleon-Sully

West Ham majority shareholder David Sullivan has told his Claret & Hugh website about the club's intentions with regards to extending, or at least renewing, Angelo Ogbonna's contract which is due to expire in June of next year.

After having sustained an ACL injury that more likely than not will require surgery followed by a very lengthy rehab period, many thought that they had seen the Og in claret and clue for the very last time, however that is NOT the case.

In a rare moment of 'kindness', Sullivan has confirmed that the club would be offering 33 year old Ogbonna an extension to his contract for a further 12 Months. Normally Sullivan's 'interference' with player recruitment and contracts is met with annoyance and derision from Hammers fans, such decisions should be reached by the manager and newly in place head of recruitment Rob Newman is the general concencus. However in this instance praise is warranted for the much maligned owner in taking the initiative to 'do the right thing' and NOT put Angelo Ogbonna into the same bracket as others who have stolen a living from the club, they know who they are!

"We are honourable people and as a club have to do the right thing by our players and thus we will take up the option/offer him a new deal. I believe in Karma and doing the right thing is very important to me, even if it is a gamble".

Talk about "Karma Chameoleon”, what's got onto David Sullivan? Could it be the success his team is currently experiencing, or possibly the impending inbound investment from Mr Kretinsky, or maybe even that he has elevated to another plain which doesn't require an "I told you so" statement to be rolled out?

Whatever the reason, fans will welcome the decision as it is one where the outcome is of less importance than the sentiment. In the past decades PRIOR to the take over, West Ham treated players unwisely and ex-players appallingly, doing the right thing is to be admired and not scorned at, as it surely will be by certain elements.

Some say "Leopards can never change their spots", others might say "But they can hide them nicely". - Ed

The Angel Has Fallen!-Milenkovic Targeted

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Tue, 09/11/2021 - 11:35

Hammers stalwart defender Angelo Ogbonna has been ruled out for most, if not all of this season following a scan on his injury sustained during the epic 3-2 victory over Liverpool on Sunday. It has been confirmed that 'The Angel' has a dreaded ACL injury which requires surgery straight away.

Back in the day an ACL injury was the end of most players careers, fortunately medicine has moved on and the recovery rate is far better, however at the age of 33 the overall prognosis is NOT encouraging, we obviously wish Angelo a speedy recovery from a swift and successful operation.

The signing of Kurt Zouma seems even more astute with the benefit of hindsight, Issa Diop's return to form has also come at the right time with him and Craig Dawson now vying for a position in the starting line up. One suspects that in addition to 'Les' and Diop, David Moyes will seek to deploy Jamal Baptiste at some stage during the season, most specifically for the remaining Europa League group stage games and the domestic cup competitions.

News emerged less than 24 hours ago that David Moyes had rekindled his interest in Fiorentina's Nikola Milenkovic, no doubt influenced by Oggy's injury news. West Ham had agreed a fee with Fiorentina of around £14 Million and terms that suited the player, only for the deal to fall through due to 'excessive' demands from the multitude of agents involved.

It is a no brainer that Hammers will go in for Milenkovic when the transfer window opens, but will face stiff competition from Tottingham and from the Stone Throwers for the 24 year old Serbian . In the mean time the club can be thankful that they retained Diop during the period that other teams like Palace were very interested in acquiring his services.

It's not an ideal situation, but injuries are inevitable during a long season, especially for teams chasing success on FOUR different fronts. LN

Only way Bowen getting call up is if he moves to the bindippers manure or the like...Southgate once again showing he is not all that...Rashford nowhere near good enough right now gets picked pulls out and instead of Bowen who according to Southgate was very close to a call up last time the Kid from Arsenal Smith-Rowe(decent player)gets picked instead?if i was Bowen i'd check my Ancestry because as ever the so called big clubs players get picked regardless of form its pathetic....being selfish i'm happy as at least he wont get injured playing boring plodding international footy.

1001st The Sweetest!

Whisper it very quietly, or loudly if you wish, but David Moyes' managerial redemption has gathered enormous pace just as some of his contemporaries are on the receiving end of the tin tack. In a week that saw THREE Premier League managers, Farke, Smith and Santos get their marching orders, David Moyes oversaw his 1000 game during the week, followed by possibly one of the stand out games of his career in management, the 3-2 defeat on Sunday of Jurgen Klopp's all conquering Liverpool side.

The grit and determination shown by Moyes' team was the embodiment of players working together with a common cause, immaculately implementing the instructions given to them by Moyes and his superb coaching staff. This is NOT the West Ham way, winning ugly and messing with the heads of the so called top teams is not something normally associated with West Ham who, over the years, have always been capable of causing an upset against top teams, the problem was it was an all too infrequent event that was sandwiched between sobering defeats.

Here at the Org we normally place the odd bet at the beginning of the season, West Ham to qualify for the Champions League and to end up in the top four of the Barclays Premier League. It's only the waste of a few quid, however this season is a very different story. Because of the club's added fixtures due to qualifying for the Europa League, many predicted the club would struggle, there were even some who suggested relegation might be a real possibility! Well they're not saying that now!

Hammers new found prominence around the globe has been triggered by victories over main replica shirt sellers Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool, no more so than in the USA where West Ham have become something of a cause celebre, a 'cult soccer team', Bookmakers state side don't have the 'stuffiness' of some UK based companies and only use data driven statistics as opposed to the 'elite team' bias' shown in Britain.

NewJerseysafebetting will be keeping an eye on Hammers progress and they may initially price the club to end up in the top four, jump on it now because if the team keeps up it's current level of achievement, it is going to be pretty hard to dismiss it's genuine credentials as a 'top team', how nice does that sound?

Make no mistake, these are very special times to be a West Ham supporter, very very special and long may it continue. The squad David Moyes has put together is as goos as ANY other Hammers squad EVER! There are those who would argue against that claim, but in nearly 60 years of going to watch West Ham, this writer believes that the team are collectively as good as any of the illustrious line ups of the past.

Moyes has not only redeemed his career, he has helped rebuild a football club! Out of his 1001 games, Sunday's victory over Liverpool must have been one of the sweetest ever. - Ed
