Moyes-Late Deal For King Unlikely

Hammers on off pursuit of Bournemouth striker Joshua King seems to have gone on for ages, but any hopes of a last minute transfer deadline day deal to bring the Norwegian to the London Stadium seem to have been dashed by David Moyes, despite the Hammers manager being a big fan of the 29 year old.

Pre-Covid Hammers had shown great interest in king, however Bournemouth priced a move out of the market by their valuation of the player's worth, in fact it is not that long ago that they turned down a £20 Million plus offer from Manchester United for his services.

Times have changed and now, King has entered the last part of his contract and is permitted to 'negotiate' a pre-transfer deal with suitors, cue Hammers interest in him again? Well, not exactly, the two stumbling blocks are that Jesse Lingard has arrived on loan, on top wages and that King's wage demands are considered to be 'excessive' in the current climate.

Of course in an ideal world the Hammers hierarchy would pull the signing of king 'out of the bag' just before the close of the transfer window, unfortunately it is not an ideal world and the Hammers hierarchy are NOT ideal!...... -Ed

Winnie Goes West

Hammers stalwart Winston Reid has moved across London to join Championship front runners Brentford on loan for the rest of the season, the 32 year old Kiwi captain had returned from his loan spell in the USA in 'good' condition but a bit short of match practice.

Having trained with the rest of the squad for a couple of weeks and having featured for the U-23's, Reid has proved he is worthy of playing games, but not necessarily at Barclays Premier League level so a move to the Championship will be an ideal platform for Reid to have notice taken of him for all the right reasons.

The fact that 'Winnie' has ended up at Brentford has raised some conspiratorialist's eyebrows, having supposedly paid Brentford off in advance for the transfer of Said Benrahma, some are saying that West Ham have somehow 'factored' Reid's loan deal into the equation.

Regardless of the machinations behind the transfer, the move should suit all parties, and IF Reid performs any where near the level he used to perform at Brentford may well wish to make the deal permanent. Either way Reid gets the opportunity to play week in week out, if he does well his value will have gone up when he returns from the loan spell.

All Hammers fans will wish Reid well during his time with the Bees, whether it be temporary or permanent. - Ed

So Long Winnie-Transfer Window Countdown

As this is the day the transfer window 'slams shut', we thought we would join in the spirit of things with a countdown clock, unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your view point
West Ham United's name will most definitely NOT be featured among the movers and shaker headlines, this is what happens when your club has been named and shamed as perrenial 'low ballers' in the transfer market.

David Moyes was understandably not keen to discuss things in too much detail as he gave his post match 'presser' following his team's abject surrender to Liverpool in what was probably Hammers worst performance since the dreadful opening day defeat to Newcastle, however, he confirmed the unlikelyhood of any new arrivals at the London Stadium, and that if there is any movement, it will be players leaving the club, either on loan or permanently, to which purpose forgotten defender Winston Reid is about to join Championship title contenders Brentford on loan until the end of the season.

Well at least the Sky reporter won't have to freeze his bits off while waiting for a sound bite from the 'Goose' Green training and correction institute! - Ed

*Klopp Wants Diop-Told To Take Reid Instead!

Liverpool's defensive woes have been a matter of wide spread media comment, Sunday's visitors to the London Stadium are currently without ANY established centre backs in their squad, captain Jordan Henderson has filled in admirably for them, however fans from both sides are of the opinion that Michail Antonio, Angello Ogbonna, Craig Dawson and of course 'Mr Potato Salad' himself, Tomas Soucek, will be a 'difficult' proposition to deal with for any back line, let alone one that is down to the bare bones!

That said, the way Liverpool carved Tottenham apart in their last fixture will serve as an acute reminder those Hammers fans, and possibly some players who have been getting ahead of themselves, that the visitors are still the League champions and as such deserve respect, but not too much of it. If Moyes sets his team up to defend and then hit the 'Pool' on the break then the result will only go one way, if however he gets his boys to really 'rat' the Liverpool players from the get go, then the result could see Hammers cementing their spot in the coveted top six.

The arrival of Jesse Lingard has been met with mixed reception, the reality is he is a far better option than the player who's place in the squad he has essentially taken, Bournemouth's Jack 'bite the hand that feedeth' Wilshere. Lingard is on the same salary except he doesn't have a permanent deal with wheel chair sponsors.

Jurgen Klopp's search for a centre back is almost hopeless now, the latest two injuries to his defence only occurred in the last 48 hours, so he has had no time to seek 'effective' replacements. Yesterday we mentioned that Liverpool had been 'sniffing around' for a possible loan player from the Irons, and our source told us that the player being offered to Liverpool after their enquiry is Winston Reid, as opposed to Issa Diop who they were originally enquiring about.

Diop's first team opportunities have been very limited since he was struck down with Covid-19, but David Moyes definitely sees Diop as part of his future plans especially bearing in mind Ogbonna is 32 years old and Dawson will be 31 years old in a couple of months.

Hammers fans aren't used to seeing their club loan players to members of the 'top six' elite Barclays Premier League teams, but if they are after something for nothing they can sling their hook, if Klopp wants a Hammers centre back, he can have 'Winny', the Kiwi captain would relish the opportunity of playing week in week out and despite his age is most definitely an upgrade of what Liverpool currently have available for their centre back berths. Reid Yes, Diop, No! - Ed

Liverpool Loan Deal For Reid

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Fri, 29/01/2021 - 13:45

Ahead of Sunday's clash with West Ham at the London Stadium, visitors Liverpool find themselves bereft of 'proper' centre backs, the situation is so acute that Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that the League Champions are looking for a short term loan to help plug the gap until their influential players return to fitness.

One surprise name to have been mooted is none other than Hammer, Winston Reid. Reid returned form his loan spell in America a few weeks ago and has quietly been training with the rest of the squad in a bid to show that he has returned to full fitness, the Kiwi captain is contracted to West Ham until June 2023 on a £75,000 per week wage.

While the Irons are well stocked in central defence with Angello Ogbonna, Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena, all vying for places, the opposite has to be said for Liverpool, so a loan deal might suit all parties. Reid's wages have been the stumbling block for moving him on, but given the circumstances he could be a 'cheap fix' for Liverpool.

Of course there are some who would ask, "why loan one of our players to a 'direct competitor for a European Cup slot?" - Ed

Moyes Striker Conversion 3.0

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Fri, 29/01/2021 - 10:46

Jesse Lingard's arrival on loan from Manchester United has raised many eyebrows among Hammers fans with many questioning the wisdom of expensively acquiring another midfielder, albeit a very talented one, as opposed to addressing the need for a back up striker to work alongside or in place of Michail Antonio and his dodgy hamstrings.

Why has Moyes gone for Lingard? Well, he knows the player, and there is a desperate need for extra reinforcements in the midfield area because the only back up for the massively impressive world class pairing of Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek is the venerable Mark Noble.

Now everyone loves Marky, who couldn't, apart from those who have been on the receiving end of one of his 'misplaced tackles'? However by his own admission he doesn't have the necessary pace required for the Barclays Premier League anymore, and so Lingard's signing makes perfect sense.

David Moyes has had to work with a ludicrously restricted budget as he tries to shuffle players around to suit his system, and has succeeded quite brilliantly. One of Moyes's traits is to 'convert' players from their traditional roles by getting them to play in different positions, he HAS history at West Ham already.

Moyes turned Marko Arnautovic from winger in to centre forward during his first stint as manager, on his return as permanent manager Moyes turned Michail Antonio from winger to one of the best centre forwards in England! So with limited funds available, it seems quite clear that Moyes wants to 'kill two birds with one stone' and have Lingard available, not only as a back up midfielder, but as a back up striker as well.

There are those who view the signing with reservation though, with many worried that the incredible team spirit Moyes has engendered might be damaged by the arrival of a 'billy big bollocks' type player with all the baggage that can come with such 'personalities', although one cannot really visualise Lingard 'trying it on' with characters such as Angello Ogbonna and the like.

Fans may not like it, but this is part of the vital forward planning for this season if the club are to have a chance of attaining European qualification, it should be remembered that 'Les' Dawson's arrival was met with a chorus of displeasure from all areas, including ourselves, and we're still getting indigestion from eating so much 'umble pie! - Ed

West Ham 4th-Must Be The LSD

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Wed, 27/01/2021 - 01:22

We must instantly declare that we in no way condone the use of hallucinogenics in this article, and the above mentioned title has nothing at all to do with mind bending drugs, however Hammers fans might feel that 'something' has been put in the water given the recent run of results!

The LSD we were referring to is actually an acronym for Lithe, Strong and Direct, David Moyes' blueprint of how he wants his team to perform, the evidence was apparent in the away win against Crystal Palce, courtesey of a brace from bargain of the century Tomas Soucek, followed by a headed goal from 'Les' Dawson, his 2nd for the club.

In actuality the final score could have been Palace 2- 6 West Ham had Michail Antonio not hit the post TWICE and also been denied another goal from close range by Palace's keeper . Fabianski might have been slightly at fault for Palace's 1st goal, however he made amends with a superb one on one save in the 2nd half when Palace were threatening to fight back.

This fixture was a potential banana skin for the Hammers bandwagon, but despite going down to a Zaha goal early doors, the team never looked like they would end up 2nd best, and so it proved. The whole team played admirably, and David Moyes had a wry smile as he witnessed Said Berahma get 'stuck in' all over the pitch, while at the same time showcasing his incredible ability on the ball.

It's a happy day to be a Hammer, but you might just wake up and find it was all a dream - Ed
