Anderson-Haller-Lanzini All Touted

It is common knowledge that if David Moyes wants to build his West Ham United side the way he wants it, he will have to sell before he can buy, the obvious issues are that the Irons do not have that many players coveted by other teams other than the club's 'jewels in the crown' Declan Rice and Grady Diangana.

The club has seen the value of all the other 'expensive imports acquired during the profligacy of the Pellegrini era drop like a Stone (excuse pun), pre covid-19 Felipe Anderson, Sebastian Haller and Manuel Lanzini had a collective value of around £100 Million, that amount has now been halved as a combined result of the pandemic's effect on football finances and the players complete loss of form.

For a club like West Ham with it's limited resources, having both Anderson and Lanzini as 'creative maestros' is a luxury the club simply cannot afford, furthermore both players have suffered a catastrophic loss of performance. Lanzini has never been anywhere near the dazzling player he once was ever since being severely injured pursuing his dream of training with the Argentine national team.

Felipe Anderson was an exciting prospect when he first arrived from Lazio for a £36 Million fee eventually rising to £42 Million, unfortunately the then manager Manuel Pellegrini began playing Anderson out of position in order to play 'progressive football', and we all know how that ended up don't we? This season, again forced to play out of position, Anderson still tried to put a shift in until being on the receiving end of what should have been a red card tackle while playing against Sheffield United, the fact that El Pel had used all his subs meant that Anderson had to play the remaining minutes while he could barely walk, he has never been the same player since then!

Finally we come to the great hope that was Seb Haller, massively overpriced and a massive under achiever, acquired for an eye watering £45 Million, most of which had to be paid up front, no wonder Eintrecht Frankfurt were so insistent on the up front factor because they knew how much they had 'mugged' West Ham with the player sale. Haller has looked disinterested and out of sorts almost since his debut for the Irons, he has had family issues to deal with, but those issues aren't responsible for him falling over like Bambi when 'confronted' with an 'average' Barclays Premier League tackle!

Monaco are showing an interest in Haller, Messi wants Lanzini to be his 'play mate' at Barca or where ever he ends up and finally Napoli are interested in Anderson as are the club West Hama acquired him from, Lazio. Unfortunately Lanzini is the only member of the trio who West Ham don't owe any money for, it is believed £20 Million is still owed from Anderson's transfer and £6 Million form Haller's.

Essentially if West Ham sell Anderson back to Lazio David Moyes will NOT receive additional funding although the club would be saving on wages, if anyone is stupid to pay full whack for Haller then Moyes would receive the funds he so desperately wants to rebuild with. Privately Moyes must be fuming that he hasn't got a 'pot to piss in' compared to the five star luxuries afforded his predecessor Pellegrini.

In an ideal world all three players would be sold and Moyes given the money, but we do not live in an ideal world, particularly during these unique times, so Moyes will have to make do with the meagre budget he receives or generates. - Ed

Irons To Cash In On Forest's Woes

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Sun, 02/08/2020 - 19:56

There are many Nottingham Forest supporters who have been urging their club not to sell Matty Cash for £12 Million after it emerged that Forest are reportedly willing to sell one of their star players for such a low price with supposed interest from Barclays Premier League clubs Southampton FC and West Ham United. Cash who has enjoyed an excellent season for Forest in the Championship and has established himself as one of the best young prospects outside of the top flight following a number of excellent performances at right-back, is an ideal recruit for the defensive position that has become an increasingly problematic area for David Moyes' West Ham, he is clearly a desirable player who fits well within the West Ham United manager's young and hungry template.

The 22-year-old has been a constant threat going forwards down the right-hand side for the Brian Clough's ex-team, managing to register three goals and five assists in the Championship, at the same time also managing to really improve his defending throughout the campaign under manager Sabri Lamouchi’s conservative style of play. Ryan Fredericks has been found wanting this season, not just because he is relatively injury prone, but also because of his lack of decision making with it comes to his final ball when going forward, the quality of which is an essential element of the modern day full back's game.

Forest fans will be mindful of how relatively smug they were when West Ham paid what seemed over the odds on the final day of a transfer window for a certain Mikail Antonio! We kid you not, their fans couldn't believe anyone would pay so much for a 'journeyman' footballer who had risen through the amateur leagues.

How wrong were they? £12 Million for Matty Cash is a steal, it may be slightly immoral to 'rob' clubs who need the 'Cash' but it has been done to West Ham United plenty of times in the past, it is the nature of the beast that is professional football. - Ed

Don't get it with this lad he would have had premiership football still young, and had he been more patient and better advised the world would have been his oyster in a couple of years time now he will end up like Quina, Ravel Morrison, And Oxford. Hope I'm wrong and always like to see Academy players come through the ranks but he seems to have blown it to me

Hidden Agenda With Supporter ID?

There have been several mixed messages with regards to season ticket renewals, if you will pardon the pun the goal posts have been moved massively in the last 24 Hours, mindful of doing a 'Mike Ashely', the club's hierarchy swiftly reacted to a Tsunami of fan discontent by offering the '70% solution' that enables fans the option of renewing but at a greatly reduced initial cost, fair play to them for eventually doing the right thing (sic).

The new new will involve digital ticketing which will require a system that has yet to be rolled out and developed, however one aspect which may feel a bit big brother, not the TV slap show, but the Orwellian all seeing, all knowing and totally in control of it's subjects control mechanism. Season ticket holder's ID will have to be carried with them in order to access the potentially limited ballot driven seats, this is in addition to the digital interface that has yet to be confirmed.

The implications are quite simple, no longer will a Dad be able to give his brother his season ticket in order to accompany his nephew to a match that he cannot possibly get a reasonably priced ticket for. Ostensibly the photo ID criteria is to enable contact tracing of Covid -19 infected people, but realistically it is also a 'subtle' reigning in of a supporter's unofficial slight of hand that used to benefit fans with it's flexibility.

There has always been a facility whereby fans can elect to have their place taken by a fellow fan, but there has always been a ridiculous charge for what should have been a charge free option. We accept the need for track and trace, but the option to 'donate' a seat to a family member or friend should in our opinion be made as easy as possible bearing in mind the fact that there wil be a substantial amount of Hammers fans who will be feeling uneasy about attending games themselves due to being within the high risk categories advised by the Government and it's health agencies.

Will football return as we knew it within the next six months? We doubt it. - Ed

Who will be the third team to come up

Submitted by alby foreverirons on Tue, 28/07/2020 - 13:07

Just watching the game between Cardiff and Fulham and got me wondering, which team would you like to see come up. For me I would like to see Fulham come up, always had a bit of a soft spot for them and with Scott Parker as manager it would be great to see the reaction of fans when we play them at home. Brent Ford is also a chance but we are interested in a couple of their players and if they came up that would stop that. Thoughts please.

Fans Want Season Ticket Clarity- Here's How

West Ham United released 'ambiguous' advice for those fans wishing to 'retain' their season tickets for the forthcoming new Barclays Premier League season that starts on September the 12th, fans have been promised refunds for all the games that they are unable to attend due to the restricted crowds, if any, that will be allowed to attend games via a ballot system.

Of course the club expect punters to pay up the full amount and then be 'credited' for those games that cannot be attended, there are a couple of acute assumptions made by the hierarchy, namely no one knows exactly when and if crowds can return, even in limited numbers, so to proceed on any basis that 'assumes' fans will be able to return is highly questionable, being asked to pay for a product that might not exist, even more so!

So what are fans to do? Obviously many who waited a long time to get their season tickets will be loath to go to the back of the queue for a new allocation if the huge waiting list is still to be believed, so it appears the club is trading on that fact in order to persuade people to part with their money. What can be done you might ask yourself, well here are a couple of options, firstly most ticket holders have let their 'rebate' from this season run on towards their new tickets, also any club cash from ticket exchange can be used as well, so the outlay will already be less than a 'normal' renewal. However there is a facility offered for ten monthly payments at 6% interest, if that option is chosen it would mean rebates would be received within the system, essentially meaning the monthly fee would not be able to be taken unless games have been attended, it is enshrined in the consumer credit act much in the same way as you can be reimbursed for credit card purchases when there has been a problem with goods or services not received.

If you do pay your season ticket in advance and don't want to use the loan facility, we highly recommend paying by credit card as the card companies have far more clout when it comes to getting refunds than individuals do, also they will refuse to pay out monthly credit card payments to the club if the games are regularly unavailable.

We have contacted the club for clarity on this issue and it's possible resolution, as yet we have not received a response. - Ed

Eze Or Isn't He?

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Mon, 27/07/2020 - 14:28

QPR's Eberechi Eze could arrive at the London Stadium with Jordan Hugill travelling in the opposite direction, Hugill enjoyed a successful season on loan at Loftus Road and a deal looks as if it could happen. QPR will be looking to get top dollar for the very talented Eze, but the current financial climate will make that a difficult proposition, using Hugill as a make weight in the deal will appeal to all parties with Hammers being able to recoup a significant amount of the £10 Million they paid for the striker, it is believed Hugill and another £10 Million would be enough to seal the deal.

The £10 Million outlay for a young and hungry established player is within Hammers strict budgetary constraints, however any other acquisitions will most definitely have to be funded by player sales. Although the high profile signings of Sebastain Haller and Felipe Anderson will be the signings most likely to move on IF suitable funding can be provided by their suitors, but Hammers fans also need to face up to the fact that Grady Diangana is hot property and would be sought after by many clubs, clubs willing to invest in a talent that will only grow in value.

As we mentioned in our previous article, the need for two new full backs is acute, as is firming up the back up for Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena and Winston Reid are both on the books and could 'do a job' especially if they are there purely as back ups. At 32 years old Ogbonna probably only has one more excellent season in the tank, so moving on in time a replacement will eventually have to be found.

Albian Ajeti is another one who is surplus to requirements, there is no way the club will be able to recoup the £8 Million he cost, but he could fetch £5 Million. As it is unlikely that any club would be foolish enough to stump up anywhere near the £45 Million the Irons paid for him, Sebastian Haller will probably be at the London Stadium for another season, perhaps he will come good, although all the signs are that he is definitely NOT a David Moyes type of footballer.

Slim pickings indeed. - Ed

Buy from the championship, end up in the championship

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 27/07/2020 - 13:58

I know the saying. however, look at Antonio and Bowen. What you seem to get from a good young player in lower league is a desire to run all day and work hard. A certain appreciation of them being given a 'step up'. I accept some of them, most of them probably aren't all that good. my point here though is that with good scouting, there are good players to be found that dont cost the ridiculous amounts of an Anderson or Yarmalenko. Should we be looking to clubs like Brentford, Notts Forest, Derby etc, those that wont (I dont think Brentford will but right now you couldn't say) go up this season for two or three more 'Bowens'?

Brentford in particular have some really interesting young attacking players. Should we pass up on another summer recruitment ala Pellegrini and look for more solid, working players from the championship to complement what we have?

New:Irons Simply Cannot Afford £100 Million Bench

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Mon, 27/07/2020 - 13:50

West Ham United's season ended with an insipid performance against an Aston Villa team fighting for their Barclays Premier League survival, in a way it was to be expected given the fact that David Moyes' men were completely safe from relegation heading in to the final game. One unique aspect of project restart was the option of using up to five substitutes, a facility the West Ham manager used sparsely, however having so many players available did put the spotlight on the strength of various team's benches, and West Ham's was eye watering!

Yesterday afternoon's game against Villa saw a Hammers bench that included Sebastian Haller, Felipe Anderson, Andrily Yarmolenko, Manuel Lanzini and Jack Wilshere, the first three having been acquired for a total of over £100 Million. The wages for all five including, Jack Wilshere's obscene £100,000 per week, are in excess of £500,000 per week, that's £25 Million per year!

No team, other than those 'elite' clubs bank rolled by dubious countries seeking some form of respectability, can possibly sustain having over £100 Million of 'talent' on the bench whilst paying them over £25 Million per year in wages, pre Covid -19 those figures are excessive, but now the Pandemic has ripped through football's finances such figures are completely unsustainable.

The transfer window has just opened, but hopes are not high of offloading these 'luxury' players at anywhere near their 'true' value, in the current market West Ham would be doing really well to get HALF of what was paid for these mostly Pellegrini indulgences, the high wages they are on will make them particularly difficult to move on.

Trim, cull, whatever you wish to call it, David Moyes will have to sell before he can buy, the problem is his squad is currently completely imbalanced, and given the severe budget restrictions Moyes may have to just initially concentrate on the two key areas of concern, namely the full back situation. Fortunately for the Irons manager, Ben Johnson, having overcome a series of injuries stepped up to the plate at right back and left back, but the elephant(s) in the room are Ryan Fredericks and Aaron Cresswell, he former has regressed as a player to such an extent that some cannot bare watching his error strewn, rabbit in the headlights, shocking football, he wasn't always as bad as he is now, his confidence is obviously way down, but his decision making is really atrocious and getting worse!

Aaron Cresswell is a different kettle of fish to Fredericks,he has been a loyal servant to the club but doesn't have the physicality to put in the type of performances that he once did, back in the day he would be 'head up and burn' forward down the flanks defender, now he plays sideways or backwards, it is a pity but Cresswell definitely need replacing, but not by Authur Masuaku! 'King Authur' as he was once affectionately known by fans, is NOT a full back, he never was despite being played as one, he is a decent left winger but he neglects his defensive duties or makes too many bad choices with his final ball.

Losing Jeremy Ngakia was a real blow, it means having to dip in to the transfer market to find a right back, good ones are hard to find though. Much of Moyes' recruitment will have to be from the lower leagues and from Club's in trouble, Wigan in particular, if they fail in their appeal against a 12 point deduction they wiil have to sell their best assets at knock down prices, and West Ham will be waiting there to do to the Latics what has been done to the Irons on numerous occasions in the past, especially by that creep Levy!

There is hardly any likelyhood of Haller, Anderson, Lanzini, Wilshere and Yarmolenko all being at the club when the new season starts on September the 12th, the most likely departures will probably be Anderson and Haller, both players have already attracted interest from European clubs Lazio and Monaco, as for the others, there aren't many clubs that can match the 'generous' wages West Ham have dished out in the past, why would they want to move on for less money? - Ed
