Taking A Closer Look At The Irons

West Ham United had a largely forgettable time last year. They stood 10th in the Premier League with 15 wins, seven draws, and 16 defeats. The Hammers showcase their brilliance in patches but lacked consistency and purpose. A thumping 8-0 victory against Macclesfield Town in September last year was a major highlight for the fans and supporters of the club.

In all fairness, it was a season of missed opportunities for The Hammers. They showcased a lot of promise but failed to seize several key moments during the course of the tournament. Simply put, it was a season of countless missed opportunities for West Ham United.

A brand new season of the Premier League has just dawned on us. Like all other teams in the tournament, West United would also like to gain some much-needed momentum early on in the tournament. Fans and supporters will be treated to some breathtaking sporting action. It is time to get your west ham hospitality packages booked as soon as you can.

The club would certainly be aiming for a top five finish this season. A lot of fresh talent has been recruited this season in order to add a tinge of freshness into the squad. Here’s a list of players that have been roped in by the club for the 2019-20 season:

• Sébastien Haller (Centre-Forward)
• Pablo Fornals (Attacking Midfield)
• Albian Ajeti (Centre-Forward)
• Roberto (from Espanyol)
• David Martin (from Millwall)
• Goncalo Cardoso (from Boavista)

Things to note:

• West Ham have Declan Rice, the sixth-best outfield player across Europe’s top five divisions for spearheading ball recoveries. Only Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City FC had a better ball recovery rate than Rice during the 2018-19 season.

Ball recovery would mean nothing if West Ham go on to squander ball possession. In Felipe Anderson, the Hammers have sixth-most prolific dribbler. The man lad from Brazil completed 76 take-ons in the 2018-19 season.

Goal scoring happens to be a major pain point

Last season, Marko Arnautović was the club’s most prolific scorer across competitions. The Austrian led the club’s scoring charts with 10 Premier League goals.
Felipe Anderson was the second-best goalscorer behind Marko with nine Premier League goals.

In all fairness, The Hammers need a striker who can spearhead the club’s attacking lines. In recent times, the club has lacked a striker who can score 20-25 goals in a single Premier League season.

Can the 'Bulldozer' make his presence felt this season?

In order to bolster the club’s forward line, Pellegrini has roped in Sebastien Haller (nicknamed the “bulldozer” by Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovak). THe 25-year-old can score goals against any given opposition. The quality of the opposition’s defence lines doesn’t really matter to him. He will score goals if it is his day. No defence line is formidable enough to stop Haller when he is on song. If you want to see him in action, then get your hospitality packages booked as soon as possible. Hurry up

Five Ways You Can Enjoy Sport Even More

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Fri, 25/10/2019 - 11:39

For a West Ham fan, there’s nothing like attending a live game and watching your favourite team
play, cheering them on and grabbing a huge portion of the unique atmosphere that comes with a
football game. That being said, if there’s ever a time you can’t attend an all-important game, or if
you’re looking to enjoy your sport in different ways between big games, here’s how.

1.Try Live Streaming

Equipping your smart device for live streaming means you never have to miss a game, no matter
where you are. Perfect for commuting, travelling, or just keeping updated on the latest while you’re
out and about, live streaming is the ideal way to stay in the loop even if you’re not sat watching a
match.
Head to the Unibet live streaming service to ensure you never miss a game.

2.Watch the Game at Home with Your Mates

You might not always be able to attend a big match, but there’s no reason you can’t watch the game in
the comfort of your living room with those who count. Equip yourself with great food and drink and
the best company, and you’re good to go. Especially during those months when sitting outside at a
live game might be too cold to handle, home-based entertainment can often be the way to go. Be sure
to choose the house with the biggest TV and comfiest chairs, too.
3.Watch the Game in a Public Place

One great thing about a football game is the atmosphere, and sharing your passion with those others
around you who support your team, too. That’s why watching a game in a public place, like a pub or
social venue, means you can still integrate yourself in that atmosphere even if you can’t attend the
physical game. Take the time to find the perfect venue by looking at MatchPint’s most recommended
list of pubs and bars to watch the all-important match. It could be that your favourite local or a
specific club is holding a special event based around the game for you and other supporters to enjoy.
4.Get Your Family Involved

There’s nothing like sharing the joy of a sport with your loved ones, and this is especially rewarding
when you can share it with children who are starting to take an interest in your team. Spend time in
between games educating your family about your favourite team and make arrangements for them to
attend the next match so that you can enjoy together. Share your prized sports items with them, or get
personalised matching team shirts to wear to the next game.
5.Collect Memorabilia

You probably already do if you’re a hardcore football fan, but if not, then this is a great hobby to feel
more connected with your favourite team in between matches. Chubb details tips on how you can
collect more memorabilia so that you could turn a room or area of your house into a dedicated space
for your collection, and have your prized items out on display. This could be anything from football
shirts, signed memorabilia or posters, and photos.

What Happened To Winnie? Reid Absent Again!

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Tue, 22/10/2019 - 12:11

Following Saturday's debacle against Everton one player who was just looking to get out on the pitch was the club's forgotten man, Winston Reid.

'Winny' was scheduled a run out with the U23's last night as he hadn't played competitive football for nearly two years. Alas it was not to be, and on the face of it is highly unlikely he will ever return to the first team, let alone become the fearsome warrior defender that he was.

Officially there was no word as to why Reid wasn't even in the squad, however one of our Org members was at the match and was told Reid had succumbed to a heavy flu virus and that his presence could have been bad for the health of the rest of the squad. You can take that information with however big a grain of salt you wish, however it doesn't really 'cover' the situation.

The initial injury Reid sustained was a 'freak accident' whereby he was knocked unconscious while in mid air, consequently landing in a completely unnatural way on his knee, which basically shattered! On reflection it would probably have been better for the player to just retire due to the severity of the injury, but that is with the benefit of hindsight, no one, including the player himself, had any idea that the injury would take so long to heal.

If Reid had been able to return, and don't forget he has been given full wages during his 'freak' injury spell, he might have been able to increase Manuel Pellegrini's defensive options without any additional financial outlay. The future does look bleak for the New Zealander, and while it must have been incredibly frustrating for the 'Warrior' not to be playing, life has had it's compensations, in 2017 Reid signed a 6 year / £21,840,000 contract with West Ham United F.C with an annual average salary of £3,640,000, in 2019 Reid will earn a base salary of £3,640,000 or about £70,000 per week, so at least he can cry all the way to the bank! .

The Reid situation is a salient reminder of how the policy of handing out long contracts to prevent other teams from 'poaching' players can come back to bite clubs, very hard! It would be wonderful if Winston Reid can come back, but at 31 years of age it is a bit of a long shot, perhaps he just spent too much time in Andy Carroll's company?- Ed

Pellegrini Needs To Be Brutal

Manuel Pellegrini will be scratching his well coiffured head as to how he should motivate his players, perhaps he should 'withdraw' a couple of his high profile signings and give others a chance? We believe he should also be more flexible in his team formation and play to Haller's strengths, go with two up front occasionally!

'Brutal' Pellegrini Blasts Players And So He Should

nevillenixon's picture

West Ham United manager, Manuel Pellegrini, known as The Engineer or This Charming Man, didn't want to build any bridges or be charming as he lambasted his under performing players following their 2-0 surrender to Everton.

One aspect of the match which Pellegrini found particularly galling was that Everton were there for the taking, woefully short of confidence and led by their under fire manager. The match represented the perfect opportunity to redress the balance after losing 2-1 at home to Palace, victory would have almost made up for what could have been viewed as a ' bad day at the office' at the London Stadium the week before.

Given the option he confirmed that he would have swapped almost the entire team at half time, so lamentable was their performance, possibly only Roberto and Fredericks would have escaped their manager's anger, because he might seem a quiet man but is not always that way, as some players will find out in the coming days.

Hammers have put in some pretty lame performances in the past, and the Everton game must be right up there in the PPLP rankings ( **** Poor League Performances), At Goodison the team had a chance to set themselves up nicely for the forthcoming 'grudge' match against Sheffield United, whilst atoning for the Crystal Palace debacle, instead their lack lustre performance means they go in to Saturday's match with massive pressure instead of anticipation.

It is easy to criticise when things aren't going well, but surely 'El Pelle' must start to look at his rigid one up top line ups, Sebastain Haller is a superb striker, but one who has been used to operating in a two forward line up, consequently he finds himself isolated and so drops deeper looking for the ball, this negates his qualities significantly. This is not to say Haller won't learn to plough a lonely furrow, but he needs help in the short term, and he should be given it!

Of course it's not all doom and gloom, but the high level of expectation many fans were beginning to feel should definitely be put on the back burner. Two home games in a row against the Blades followed by Newcastle looked to be good on paper, unfortunately they will now have become must win games in order to put the brakes on Hammers slide down the Barclays Premier League table.

One player who is just looking to get out on the pitch is the club's forgotten man, Winston Reid, 'Winny' gets a run out with the U23's tonight, he hasn't played competitive football for nearly two years. It is highly unlikely he will ever return to the Warrior defender that he was, but given he has been paid full wages during his 'freak' injury spell he will at least increase Pellegrini's defensive options without any additional financial outlay, this is assuming that Reid comes through the match unscathed, which given Hammers injury track record is not too promising a prospect, but good luck to him, he deserves a break, but not a literal one for heaven's sake! - Ed

El Pel a busted flush?

4-1-4-1 El Pels preferred and apparently only formation he wants to play and we lose yet again...the team look lethargic no pace or belief or a clue as to whats going on around them...of course "we are brilliant in training" so all the players say but what about during a game? not one clue any of them.So its about time our wonderful manager who take the plaudits now needs to prove he can change and make us a better team.....against Palace we were Shit and today against Everton we were even worse and don't even try and argue Everton were better because they really were not playing against any kind of opposition.....not one player deserves any praise today and yet again the only one i feel sorry for is Haller as he plows a lone furrow upfront keep dropping deep or wide for any sign of the ball...meanwhile Anderson yet again brushed off the ball easily and making poor decisions Lanzini doing nothing Fornals tried but failed and oh yeah El Pels had a haircut.....this mess needs sorting because playing this formation just is not cutting it i am afraid and we begin our inevitable slide down the table....thanks West Ham for another non performance by all of our over hyped players.

Taxi For Rice! Hilarious Noble Prank

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Thu, 17/10/2019 - 13:06

As a prime exponent of 'pranking' other players, it was inevitable that Mr Prank It', AKA West Ham United captain Mark Noble, would be the instigator of a well organised prank carried out on youngster Declan Rice, lo and behold that is exactly what happened while the players were attending a photo shoot.

You can judge for yourself how wonderfully composed the 20 year old Hammers defender was when confronted with a parking enforcement wheel clamper, courtesy of those fellow Hammers conspirators Betway Soccer . The actor being used was good, and we mean really good, especially his reference to Ryan Frederick's job as a P.A.

The footie can't come soon enough for most fans following the international break, Hammers take on Everton at Goodison for the early 12:30 kick off, which is being shown on BT Sport, ahead of the match it is reassuring to know that team spirit is certainly not an issue at the London Stadium, far from it!

It does make you wonder how long it will be before the tables are turned, and Mr West Ham United himself is on the receiving end, after all it would only be fair wouldn't it? - Ed

Yarmo Plays A Blinder Snoddy Quits

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Tue, 15/10/2019 - 13:46

Andriy Yarmolenko scored one of the two goals that defeated Portugal, ensuring the Ukraine progress to the next round of the Euro's. His 27th minute strike means that he averages just about a goal in every two games for his country, not a bad return for a player who is not an out and out striker is it?

The six foot three inch player is only just returning to full fitness after his dreadful Achilles injury that kept him out for the bulk of last season, by his own admission he has a long way to go in order to play to his full capacity, his injury being one that some players never return form properly. Julien Faubert was a classic example, nicknamed Le TGV for his astonishing speed, he was an expensive acquisition who 'snapped' his Achilles while playing in a friendly, he never returned to being that player again, although he did go out on loan to Real Madrid where he was famously spotted asleep while on the bench as a substitute!

While one player is taking the plaudits praise for his international performances, another has called it a day. Not surprisingly Robert Snodgrass has hung up his international boots for the second and final time, Snoddy has been a fine servant for Scotland but maybe feels the National team are in transition and that his energies would be best used trying to get some game time at West Ham United.

Robert Snodgrass is in the twilight of his career, and despite obviously being trusted by Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini, finds himself well down the pecking order. The extremely popular Scot has been used very sparingly this season, and may well want to move on to pastures new in order to play more football, as such he might leave during the January window, as there will be plenty of suitors for his services.

Both Snodgrass and Yarmolenko are proof that nothing is written in stone in the Barclays Premier League, each has returned from the differing difficulties they faced as stronger wiser players, people who's work rate and endeavour ensured they were able to take their places in the squad back, the irony being that Yarmolenko's return may well herald Snodgrass's eventual departure. - Ed
