Not Such Good News On The Fab Front

West Ham United's last season's player of the year, Lukasz Fabianski, picked up a hip injury during the club's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday, he was forced to leave the field during the first half and was replaced by substitute keeper Roberto. Unfortunately the news doesn't look too good with regards his recovery time, the only compensation being the pending International break following next week's home game against Crystal Palace.

Here is what manager Manuel Pellegrini had to say about the ever reliable Fabianski. “Lukasz felt a problem in a muscle in his hip when he tried to kick the ball,” he confirmed.. “We need to know more about it with a medical examination on Sunday.. “Goalkeeper is an important player, but I trust a lot in Roberto also. Roberto played well, he’s a very good goalkeeper and we will see what will happen with Lukasz’s injury and how many weeks he will be out.”

The alarming extract being ......"and how many weeks he will be out.” This does not bode well, because despite Pelle's protestations, Roberto is not a 'very good goalkeeper', in fact, to most Hammers', fans far from it. Of course his manager is going to back him in public, but privately he knows, after all it was Roberto who was in goal for last week's debacle against Oxford.

David Martin is technically the 3rd choice keeper, but perhaps Manuel Pellegrini might see fit to use him against Palace, because Roberto doesn't inspire confidence among his defenders, this was plain to see on Wednesday night and for the time he was playing yesterday. Still, a champions league place at the moment is not to be sniffed at! - Ed

Hammers Face Yet Another 'Bogey' Team

Fresh from Wednesday's appalling Carabao Cup defeat, Manuel Pellegrini's Irons need to bounce back on track, unfortunately today's south coast opponents Bournemouth are one of Hammers' many 'bogey' teams. Playing Brighton is always difficult, but Bournemouth have proved to be even fiercer opposition in the past with many fans thinking that the away team will be lucky to escape with a point from the game.

West Ham United has always had a soft under belly when it comes to 'lower ranked' opposition, lose to the losers and then beat the unbeatable, it's the way it has always been since back in the day. Yeovil, Hereford, Luton and plenty of others have humbled the mighty Hammers on numerous occasions, so it comes as no surprise that a team that was used to playing in the 2nd tier for most of it's existence, with a ground capacity that is 1/5th of the London Stadium, should be favourites for this fixture!

Apparently Manuel Pellegrini 'read the riot act' after the Oxford debacle, and so he should have, his team selection for today will be interesting, hw is able to include Manuel Lanzini and Authur Masuaku. Does he start Authur or retain Aaron Cresswell? As Callum Wilso is probably Bourenmouth's greatest threat it would appear that Pelle will select Masuaku due to his sheer pace, but it would be a harsh man to drop Cresswell after his inspired performance in the 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the London Stadium last Sunday.

As Lanzini is just back, ahead of time, from his foot injury Pablo Fornals will probably start the match, with 'Manu' coming on in the second half if needed. The rest of the team selection speaks for itself, as Hammers attempt to remain unbeaten in six Barclays Premier League games, a record that has stood for ages. Bouncing back from Wednesday night's defeat is essential and may well dictate how Hammers overall season pans out even this early on.

There will never be a better time to break in to the upper echelons of the Premier League, it just depends on how much the players want it! - Ed

Anyone else suspect El Pels had his balls squeezed after wednesday night and as if by magic the 3/4 week Lanzini layoff turns into just one week.Do we think he's trying to get some fans back onside

El Pel never learns

So a competition El Pel loves and wanted to win sees us thumped 4-0 by a div 1 side and it did not flatter them they deserved it and this follows on from our thumping by Wimbledon in the F.A. Cup last season so it would appear our manager has learned very very little about the players and mentality that they have. Many have said it before and to most it makes sense and that is play your best side get the game won then sub your key players but apparently 3 points in the prem are of more importance than silverware,so onto saturday now and the team have just got to win otherwise what is the point in resting our so called big players.

Pellegrini Will Not Do A Poch!

West Ham United boss, Manuel Pellegrini, knows only too well the importance that winning a trophy means for his club and it's long suffering supporters has, the EFL Carabao Cup represents a clear route in to Europe for the next season, a route he is determined to take, by hook or by crook. Pelle has hinted at changes from the side that swept away Manchester United at the London Stadium on Sunday, however he will be extremely wary of 'doing a 'Poch' by fielding a team that is too under strength.

Tottenham's humbling by Colchester in last night's 'Elk' Cup tie will have served as a salient reminder to Hammers' Chilean manager, realistically neither West Ham nor the club's bitter rivals can win the Barclays Premier League, that will be reserved for either Liverpool or Manchester City. So the best that can possibly be hoped for is to break in to the top six or even the top four, however that requires Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United to implode as well as Tottenham and two of Leicester, Wolves or Everton to fall by the wayside.

Given the possibilities and the vagary of potential results and form, the Carabao Cup really does represent a genuine route in to Europe, albeit a slightly convoluted one, but it should be remembered that a cup win eliminates the need to pre-qualify for the Europa League, the impact of which is well known, just look at how Wolves are struggling to compete in the early stages whilst trying to maintain their presence in the Premier League, it is a delicate balance, any hope Wolves had of buying their way out of trouble during the January window has been snuffed out due to their owners taking a one billion pound hit as a result of the Thomas Cook debacle as they were substantial share holders in the company.

There will be a slot for youth players during tonight's game against Oxford City, Connor Coventry and Nathan Holland are two U-23 players set to start, but you can bet your house 'Pelle' will do everything he can to avoid his team suffering a similar fate as their North London rivals. Sebastian Haller, Pablo Fornals and Felipe Anderson will most likely all be on the bench in case they are needed.

Players that haven't been getting much game time will also get a run out, Robert Snodgrass, Albian Ajeti, Carlos Sanchez, Fabian Balbuena, Jack Wilshere, Pablo Zabaleta and Jiminez are all set to start as is youngster Gonçalo Cardoso. It wasn't just Poch's team who underestimated their opponents last night, Stoke City also went out on penalties, if Mark Noble doesn't start tonight's match he will surely be kept in reserve should the need to take penalties occur.

A place in the last 16 is up for grabs, West Ham teams of the past would probably falter at the prospect, it is to be hoped that Manuel Pellegrini's 'big club' mentality also includes a degree of humility when it comes to tonight's opponents, who will play their hearts out!! - Ed *we'll have all the team news as soon as it is available
