Pellegrini Plans For Chicha Replacement

West Ham United have confirmed, as per our previous article, that Javier Hernandez has joined Sevilla for an undisclosed fee believed to be around €10 Million with maybe a couple more in add ons.

Chicha's departure at such a late stage may have left Hammers one injury away from a big problem upfront, but Manuel Pellegrini's decision to let the Mexican striker leave was based on dressing room harmony, and was the correct one. The club had only just recovered from losing 'talisman' Dimitri Payet, when it had to deal with the 'Sulkauvic' situation caused by the Austrian strikers brother, and we all know how that ended!

A while back, there were some calling for the club to sign free agent Mario Balotelli, talented maybe, but trouble yes. Fortunately that potential disaster cannot happen as the Italian has signed for Brescia, having just got rid of one trouble maker and averted a potential similar issue with another player the last thing Manuel Pellegrini needs is another disuptive presence in the dressing room. By the way, the term 'free transfer' is slightly ambiguous due to some of the enormous 'signing on' fees demanded by the agents of the free agents!

In times of famine people tend to look in the store room to find sources of nourishment that were possibly put away for the future, so to continue the analogy, Hammers need to bring the development of some of the youth players even further forward than had originally been planned. There are a several candidates for promotion to the first team squad, namely Nathan Holland, Xande Silva, Mesaque Dju and Grady Diangana who is currently on loan at West Bromwich Albion.

Unfortunately Holland has only just returned from a series of injuries and Silva is convalescing from an operation to sort out a serious abdominal problem, Mesaque Dju is a relatively unknown phenomena who is a very raw recruit but with bags of potential. Hammers are short up top, this cannot be denied, however the manager also has the guille and firepower of Felipe Anderson and Pablo Fornals to call upon as well, both have the ability to step up to the plate should they need to play further up the pitch.

The international break has come at a good time, Pelle will have time to work with the youngsters, of course the major dread for the Irons is Manu Lanzini and others returning from international duties with injury, as was the case at the beginning of last season.

The official club website had this parting message for Chicharito, it is somewhat differing in tone to that offered to Marko Arnautovic on his departure! - Ed

“The Mexican’s transfer ends a two-year stay in east London, during which he scored 17 goals in 63 games in Claret and Blue.
“The 31-year-old signed-off his time with the Hammers by scoring on his final appearance in a 1-1 Premier League draw at Brighton & Hove Albion on 17 August.
“The Club would like to thank Chicharito for his contribution and wish him all the best in his future career.”

Goodbye Chicha But Not Good Riddance

Spanish La Liga side Sevilla are set to confirm the signing of Javier Hernandez from West Ham United either this evening or first thing tomorrow, the player quietly flew in to Jerez airport on friday in a private executive jet ahead of his medical, which he duly completed. Hernandez's departure was kick started by the player handing in a written request to leave the club he joined for £15 Million two and a half years ago.

Hernandez played a total of 55 games scoring 16 times for the Hammers, which is a decent return, however the players crippling £140,000 per week wages meant the goals to cost ratio was poor. Sevilla will be getting Chicharito on the cheap, around €8 Million when all is said and done, but the opportunity to offload a player who has only ten months left on their contract, and removing their salary from the wages bill was too good for the Hammers hierarchy to resist, saving the club £6.5 Million in wages alone!

Manuel Pellegrini was not deeply enamoured with the prospect of losing Hernandez, especially bearing in mind Michail Antonio's recent serious injury, however the manager also wanted to avoid the sort of toxic environment created in the dressing room when one of the club's 'stars' are unhappy, as was the case with Marko Arnautovic and Dimitri Payet before him. To be fair though, Hernandez has gone about his business, through his agents, in a straight forward and correct way, which is why the player deserves to leave on a good footing.

Henandez's departure will be less 'scowling' than that of Arnautovic, the additional funds generated can only be used to acquire players who are available on a free transfer and will therefore probably be kept in the kitty ahead of the January window when there are few bargains to be had, but having the ability to steam in will be beneficial should the club need to bring in reinforcements.

One bonus factor created by the Mexican International's departure will be the freeing up of one squad space, which unless the club are stupid will be filled by one of the academy's up and coming youngsters, this will help the home grown balance factor. With Grady Diangana scoring for fun while on loan at Slaven Billic's West Brom, the club have a good few months to asses whether to exercise their right to bring the exciting young forward back to the London Stadium during the January transfer window.

Hammers fans will wish Javier Hernandez well for the future, things never really worked out for him but at least he didn't openly disrespect the team or his manager. Goodbye Javier, but definitely not good riddance! We wish you well - Ed

Too little, Too Late Hernandez Offer

It seems that West Ham United and Javier Hernandez are destined not to part company until the player has run the last year down on his incredibly lucrative £140,000 per week deal. Sevilla have been courting the Mexican striker all of the transfer window and were anticipating a cut price or even loan deal just ahead of the window closing on September the 3rd.

Hammers quite rightly stuck to their guns insisting the player can leave, but not for less than €10 Million, Sevilla initially offered €6 Million but then increased their offer to €8 Million, unfortunately the day their offer was made was the same day Michail Antonio sustained his hamstring injury, the true extent of which is as yet unknown, but no one is holding much hope that it is not as serious as it first looked.

Antonio's injury means that Hammers would technically only have Sebastian Haller and the inexperienced Albian Ajeti as their strike force should the club sell Hernandez. Of course there are youngsters such as Nathan Holland to fill the void although the general consensus is that the Barclays Premier League is too harsh an environment to throw young players in to, and of course there are others who say if you are good enough you are old enough!

The wisdom of sending Grady Diangana on loan to Slaven Billic's West Brom can be called in to question, however that is with the benefit of hindsight. The reality is Hammers will now have to continue paying Hernandez's wages for the foreseeable future as well as taking a hit on any money recouped as a transfer fee. That is unless Hammers bite the bullet and risk being left light up front, Diangana can be recalled in January but it is still a bit of a punt, maybe one that Manuel Pellegrini is reluctant to take.

Should Chicharito be in the starting line up or on the bench for today's game against newly promoted Norwich City, then it is safe to assume his services will have been retained, at least until January, should he not make the squad he will almost definitely be on his way out of the London Stadium. - Ed
We'll have all the team new directly from the stadium as soon as it is accessible.

Manu Signs Up For 5 Year Stretch With Irons

Submitted by nevillenixon on Fri, 30/08/2019 - 17:25

Manuel Lanzini has put an end to recent media speculation by signing a new 5 year deal with West Ham United, the new deal on improved terms is believed to be worth £100,000 per week to the 26 year old player and will ensure he is contracted to play at the London Stadium until 2024/25.

Manu told the official website www.whufc.com “I’m so happy to sign a new contract for West Ham, I think it’s the best decision for me. I’ve been here for a long time and I’ve said in an interview before that I like West Ham, I like the fans, I like the staff and when I came here all the people were comfortable with me. I like to stay here. It’s a big decision but also easy, because when you feel good in one club and you like the club and the club likes you, it’s easier to decide these things. For me, it was not difficult. It was easy, because I love it here. I love London, I love the Club, I am happy here, we have a very good team, we have a very good manager and the Club wants to change and to be in more competitions in the future and that’s good for us.”

Lanzini's signing will come as a relief to many Hammers fans who feared other clubs would try to 'snipe' him due to his contract running down, it is to be truly hoped that he comes back from his International duties with Argentina injury free! - Ed

Anxious Hammers Await Antonio Results

By lunch time today the West Ham United medical team will more than likely confirm a lengthy spell in the treatment room for Michail Antonio, just how long will be determined by a full scan today. Things are not looking too promising though, according to the vast majority of those who know and understand football injuries, the damage done to Antonio's hamstring could be really extensive.

A few years ago Antonio did suffer a similar injury to his other hamstring which eventually required surgery, unfortunately the damage sustained to his hamstring in the first five minutes of the EFL cup tie against Newport County looks to be even worse!

At the very best we are looking at a minimum of six weeks out, but if the hamstring is snapped it will require full surgery, potentially ruling out the dynamic attacker for up to six months. The Hammers injury curse is alive and well thank you very much, whether it was based at Chadwell Heath or newly installed at Rush Green, or in Antonio's case Rodney Parade.

There is no point in crying over spilled milk, Antonio's injury has happened, he will be a big miss but the team have to move on. Although he has looked well off the game pace since returning from his own long term injury, Andrily Yarmolenko could fill the void left by Antonio. Yarmolenko's style of play is different, he prefers to cut in on his left foot from the right side of the pitch as opposed to just steamrolling forward.

Injuries are part of the modern day game, it's just a pity that Hammers are 'more modern' than other clubs, fingers will be crossed ahead of Antonio's scan, but the news is either going to be bad, or awful. - Ed

Saunders In Glass Houses Shouldn't Throw Stones

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Wed, 28/08/2019 - 17:55

There are few, if any, present day TV ex-football pundits that have been more acerbic with their comments about a football club, it's players, owners and supporters than Dean Saunders has been about West Ham United. In his BT Sport TV's capacity as match day pundit and in a similar role for Talk Sport radio, the ex Wales International footballer has relentlessly and arrogantly criticised the Irons.

So it was with a certain amount of schadenfreude that news of Saunders' arrogance 'biting him back was greeted at the Org, apart from getting pissed behind the wheel, something many readers may have done 'back in the day', Saunders then had the front to deny the police either a breath test or a blood or urine sample when asked to do so.

We often criticise young players who don't act responsibly, but Saunders tried to use his 'fame' in order to wriggle out of being prosecuted. He should also remember the comments he made about the late and great Ray Wilkins, people in glass houses really shouldn't throw stones! - Ed

Here is a copy of the BBC article:
The BT Sport pundit, 55, was stopped by police on suspicion of drink-driving in Boughton, Chester, on 10 May. Saunders, who was capped by Wales 75 times, was slurring and had to prop himself up against his Audi A8 car when he was asked to get out of the vehicle, Chester Magistrates' Court heard. Jailing Saunders, District Judge Nicholas Sanders called him "arrogant".

Outside court, Conor Johnstone, defending Saunders, said his client would be appealing against the sentence as he believed it was excessive. He said his client was "in shock" and "disappointed" with the sentence. A bail application is expected to be made to a judge at Chester Crown Court later on Wednesday so Saunders does not have to spend time in custody before any future appeal hearings, Mr Johnstone added. The former Derby County, Oxford United and Aston Villa forward, of The Paddocks in Whitegate, Cheshire, told the court he had been at Chester Races and had drunk two pints.

'Deterrent sentence'

The court heard how at about 00:45 BST, a police patrol spotted Saunders' car driving at speed and failing to give way at a roundabout, causing another vehicle to brake. He was arrested for failing to provide a breath test and taken to a police station when he again refused to comply. His lawyer suggested the alcohol might have "interacted" with the medication he takes for injury to his knees and for his asthma. The father of three looked crestfallen when he realised he was going to jail.

"Throughout these proceedings you have shown yourself to be arrogant, thinking you are someone whose previous and current role in the public eye entitles you to be above the law," District Judge Sanders said. "In fact the opposite is true - someone in the public eye should expect a deterrent sentence when they flout the law."

Saunders had initially denied failing to comply with a roadside breath test and failing to provide a sample at a police station, but later pleaded guilty.
He was also banned from driving for 30 months and ordered to pay court costs of £620

*Pyrrhic Victory At Newport Could Leave Club Hamstrung!

Despite the attendance of Sky TV for what the Broadcaster hoped would be a giant killing, West Ham United emerged as fairly comfortable winners in the tricky Carabao Cup tie away to Newport County.

Unfortunately victory came at some cost, Hammers' seemingly perpetual injury curse 'kicked' in within less than five minutes as Michail Antonio pulled up short, from what was West Ham's first attacking move of the evening, clutching his hamstring. The speed with which the forward pulled up was alarming, so much so that those in the know have already consigned hopes of a quick recovery to the back burner, two weeks is wildly optimistic, six to eight weeks is the general consensus although it could be even longer if tests confirm he has actually snapped his hamstring, if that is the case the player will have to have an operation which will see him unavailable for up to four months.

Losing the services of Antonio is not a catastrophe for Manuel Pellegrini, but it is certainly a great inconvenience, Antonio had created a new niche for himself, carefully nurtured by 'Pelle', as a super energetic super 'half time' substitute, and it worked a treat last week against Watford.

The only consolation for West Ham fans is that there are definitely a few players available to fill Antonio's 'copious' boots, whereas last season there would not have been. Pablo Fornals looks ready to step up to the plate, and Albian Ajeti didn't look out of place, but then again it was a match against a team 59 places below the Irons.

Tuesday evening represented a difficult hurdle to overcome, Leicester and Tottenham will testify as to just how difficult! Hammers go in to the hat for the next round, it's a pity how much it cost. - Ed

*A Pyrrhic victory (/ˈpɪrɪk/ ( listen) PIRR-ik) is a victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the victor that it is tantamount to defeat. Someone who wins a Pyrrhic victory has also taken a heavy toll that negates any true sense of achievement or damages long-term progress.

How To Responsibly Bet On Football

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Tue, 27/08/2019 - 15:25

West Ham hasn’t had the best of starts to this year’s Premier League, but the fans are as optimistic as ever for the rest of the season. Football in general and the Premier League especially are followed throughout the world with much enthusiasm. As a result, it makes the sport a highly bet-worth affair, and fans of West Ham have over time made significant profits piggybacking on the team’s success.

However, there is a lot more to football, and the passion that runs through its fans is unimaginable. Now, more than half of the teams playing in the Premier League have some affiliation with a gambling organisation which emphasises the rising importance of sports betting. Therefore, it is equally vital for clubs and players to raise awareness about gambling, making sure punters understand both the advantages and disadvantages of betting on the game.

Raising awareness also doesn’t mean you completely ignore the opportunities. Sports betting or even online casinos where you can play football-themed slots, among other things, are excellent options to make extra cash, provided you go about it slowly.

Don’t Go Overboard
Irrespective of the team you follow, punters need to stay within their financial limits when betting on football. There are often opportunities that are hard to resist, but that doesn’t mean that you bet more than you can handle. An excellent way to go about placing bets is to wager small amounts across different outcomes. This way, you are covered across the board and can end up with significant earnings.

Control Yourself
Should matters get out of hand, one of the easiest ways to stop gambling instantly is by registering yourself on Gamstop. An initiative by the UK government, Gamstop is a self-motivated option that gamblers have, which bans them from betting or playing online for some time. There are several issues related to Gamstop, but it has had some success recently. Gamstop is also an excellent way to test the waters and see how addicted you are to gambling. If you can manage the ban, it means you are in control and can continue with betting at leisure.

Keep All Options Open
While registering on Gamstop will instantly bring your betting to a halt, there are loopholes in the initiative that are raising concerns. For starters, a family member can register someone else without their knowledge, leading to unnecessary domestic issues. Moreover, getting your name off the Gamstop list is a tiresome process and takes time. However, Casinowizard reports that there are online casinos available that are not on Gamstop. These casinos are the perfect way to indulge in gambling should you want to get back once ready. Moreover, these casinos tend to have bigger bonuses making them a good proposition over time.

Enjoy the Game
Last but not least, whether supporting West Ham in the Premier League or playing poker or blackjack on an online casino, you must put your passion into the game. The more you immerse yourself in the sport, the more you will enjoy it for its thrills, and as a result, automatically limit the money-making aspect to what is best for you.
