Hammers Can't Be Plonkers At Rodney Parade

West Ham are the latest big team to brave Newport's Rodney Parade ground, the League Two side have been giant killers on more than one occasion. Manchester City eventually dispatched Mike Flynn's side in the fifth round of the FA Cup, but not before Leicester and Championship club Middlesbrough had been beaten in Wales.

Newport's only appearance in the League Cup third round came in 1962-63, but Manuel Pellegrini will be only too aware of the problems they could face against a club who have history, and home advantage, on their side. The last time the two sides met Newport ran out 2-1 victors in the third round of the FA Cup in January 1979.
Despite a raft of changes, Hammers should be in the hat for the next round as Manuel Pellegrini's side have progressed from 11 of their last 12 ties against fourth-tier opposition in this competition, and won 8-0 against Macclesfield Town at the same stage last season.

One of the players due to get a run out won't be playing due to either a 'knock' or a 'virus' is Javier Hernandez, his place will be taken by new signing Albian Ajeti, Hernandez's absence is seem by some to indicate the player may leave the club before the European transfer deadline.

"Javier had, during a training session on Thursday, a problem in his knee, it was a kick,” Pellegrini said."I don't know if he will be fit for Tuesday but on Wednesday he should be working with the team again.”

With Sebastian Haller as West Ham’s main man up front already, if Ajeti does impress tonight in Hernandez’s absence then it could be that the £16 million striker (London Evening Standard) becomes third choice forward at the London Stadium, a situation that his agent does not want.

Releasing Hernandez's £140,000 per week wages could do the club a power of good, but the conundrum is to sell him he, he has to be playing! - Ed

Report: Fancy A Banana - Skin?

The cameras will be at Newport County's ground for a reason tomorrow evening, the Carabao cup fixture against West Ham will more than likely be the home team's match of the season, and is a potentially massive banana skin for the Barclays Premier League side to avoid. Having lost to Wimbledon if the FA Cup by fielding an under strength side, Manuel Pellegrini will have to make sensible decisions ahead of this match.

Obviously Pelle will not put out a premier league fixture team and will look to give game time to peripheral players and those returning from injury, however he will be mindful of how important a good cup run can be and will therefore make a raft of changes, but retain his 'big guns' on the bench should they be needed. Will he play Mark Noble? Logic says no, in order for Mr West Ham to rest up ahead of Saturday's game against Norwich, but Noble's influence is so important at this moment in time his presence on the pitch would be surely missed.

Wilshere, Balbuena, Cresswell and Zabaleta will start, as will Albian Ajeti whose inclusion has already been confirmed by his manager. Roberto's role as keeper will fill many fans with fear judging from his earlier stints between the sticks in pre-season, but it is part of the arrangement for a number two keeper. Connor Coventry and Nathan Holland are also likely to feature, as will new signings Pablo Fornals and Gonçalo Cardoso.

It is to be hoped that Hammers have sufficient fire power on hand to dispense their lower league rivals, but this match is an accident waiting to happen and great care will need to be taken, as will the need to show the opposition respect, because they will up for it-big time! - Ed

This has got disaster written all over it talk of Roberto, Cresswell, Zabaleta Balbuena, Diop,Rice, Snodgrass Wiltshire Fornals AJeti and Antonio. So this will be our 2nd team and we all know what happened last time he did this against Wimbledon. This is either going to end up in what a great move by Pellegrini or heartache but knowing how much we all want a cup run I think this a bit risky let's hope there area few big guns on the bench to put on if needed.

Hallelujah Hammers Finally Have A Striker!

West Ham United have finally got the player that the club have been missing for years, a real out and out striker, a genuine leader of the line, and a player whose bones aren't made of paper mache! For years various managers have been 'hamstrung' by the fact that the club did not have a 'proper' fit striker, ironically Sebastian Haller is exactly what Andy Carroll was supposed to be.

Haller's baptism of fire was the 'tonking' by league champions Manchester City, he was also on the receiving end of a series of 'professional' fouls by the Citeh players, he would have left the pitch vowing not to let himself get 'bullied' by anyone on his next outing for the team. Watford were the unfortunate recipients of Haller's need to put things right, and boy did he do that!

Haller's man of the match performance has already received plenty of praise from those who don't normally give it, with the Frenchman playing West Ham look a different animal, his presence frightens defenders and he is almost impossible to knock off the ball. The freedom Haller generates for other players should not be underestimated, Manu Lanzini and Pepe Anderson were able to torment the opposition because the defenders weren't able to mark Haller and the 'dynamic duo' at the same time.

Finally, we have to praise Mr West Ham, Mark Noble, his legs went years ago, but his spirit lives on. Mark's influence on the rest of the team is astonishing, he will have to get used to being subbed around the 65th minute due to the frantic pace of the Barclays Premier League, but his presence in and around the squad is essential, his confidence and love for the club is infectious, something that new players arriving take on board, one day he will have to retire but that day later rather than sooner. - Ed

Noble or Tonka which of those two is the best ever penalty taker for you..yes i no you could throw in Dicksy but seriously Noble or Tonka? for me Tonka just shades it remembering that last minute equalizer against the bindippers at wembley in the league cup final more years back than i care to remember nerves of steel or what....both men brilliant from the spot and in truth probably hard to separate so its just a question of your preference so which will you pick?

Haller Jeeez what can you say

Mark Noble what can you say about Mr West Ham his influence on the side and Rice in particular is there for the world to see....Criticised by many Me included in the whole legs gone debate but he has proved me and a lot of others wrong and long may it continue...the Rollocking he gave the midfielders and strikers for not tracking back on Watfords goal and other times is whats needed an enormous presence and personality on the pitch that no other player in our side has a true Captain and leader and to play for 90mins in that heat for his first game of the season was incredible...Well Done Mr Noble son well done indeed

Con And Dec The Way Forward

For too long West Ham United has been seen as a last hurrah destination for players who might have been good once but have reached the end of the line, a sort of retirement half way home. Now, possibly as an unforeseen positive byproduct of the club's current FFP restrictions, it appears that Manuel Pellegrini is beginning to dip in to the vast amount of young talent at his disposal.

Fans have been screaming out for a replacement midfielder as back up to Declan Rice, and they definitely don't want Carlos Sanchez! Like many old has beens that have rocked up at the club in the past, Sanchez promptly got injured and spent the rest of the season in the medical centre. There are many who question why the club acquired Sanchez in the first place when there are academy players available who are much more mobile, the reason is Manuel Pellegrini quickly recognised the need to integrate younger players in to the first team squad but knew he couldn't throw them all in to the mix at once, preferring to introduce them one at a time.

As a result of prudent player integration, Declan Rice will soon not be alone as 'one of our own' in the match day squads of the future, he will be joined by Grady Diangana when he returns from his loan spell at West Brom. West Ham’s alternative solution to the defensive midfield conundrum could be right under their noses in the form of teenager Conor Coventry who has shown that he has all the ingredients to become a future star.

The 19 year old, who helped fill the void for Republic of Ireland left by Declan Rice's change of allegiance, currently captains the U23 side and his performances have been consistent for the academy and although he might be young, he is only a year behind Rice. Given Sanchez’s poor form, Coventry could get his opportunity, he was included in the recently published official first team photograph.

Manuel Pellegrini will give him a chance in the 'Moose' cup against Newport County, it is to be hoped that he grabs the opportunity to cement a place ahead of the much derided Sanchez. - Ed

Deeney Licking his lips

Acid test for El Pel tomorrow lets see what he comes up with this time....Watford played 2 lost 2 and not scored a goal easy pickings you may think but i doubt that and many on here probably the same.
Our porous defence got away with murder last week and any kind of performance like that again it could be another citeh result on our hands.....Of course Watford players and fans will be nervous but what better way to settle your nerves than to play West Ham!.
El Pel has to bite the bullet and resist his idea of free flowing attacking football leaving us open at the back for Deeney&co to batter us and he is more than capable of doing that...yes we won there last season 4-1 but we could and should of been 2-0 down before a wonderful Noble goal and Lanzini reacting faster than there defence gave us a flattering 0-2 ht lead add to that they had a guy sent off just minutes into the second half things fell for us on that day but not so sure this time around.....El Pel surely has to play a simple 442....Fab/Cressy(purely coz Arthurs a nightmare at the back)Diop/Balbuena/Fredericks/Rice/Noble(we wish but it'll be wheelchair)Antonio/Snodgrass(his type of game is why)Haller(if fit)Chicarito(only play if he has a strike partner)...of course i do not expect people to agree with the line up but i dont think we will get anything if El Pel plays Anderson/Fornals/Lanzini and just one up top...win the battle first then bring on Lanzini/Anderson/or Fornals to exploit the space but we shall see.....COYI
