Arnie's Head Turned So Far He's Looking Up His Own Backside!

The dust has now settled on last Saturday's extraordinary 4-3 victory over relegation strugglers Huddersfield Town at the London Stadium, however the fall out has not! It is difficult to explain how a 'top' team can perform so badly for so long against a team destined for the lower divisions and then suddenly play like Barcelona for the remaining 15 minutes unless it is because there is a 'bad apple' in the squad.

At one point Manuel Pellegrini looked as if he was going to need Jack Wilshere's custom Ford Galaxy ambulance to get him home, but being the experienced manager that he is he kept cool and made the necessary substitutions to grab the game by the scruff of the neck. Firstly he replaced Antonio with Hernandez from the beginning of the second half which at the time seemed a bit unfair as Antonio was the least culpable of the forward players earlier, Pellegrini then 'hooked' Mark Noble by sending on Samir Nasri, the combination of the two substitutes made an instant difference to Hammers' energy levels, but the third choice perhaps had the most impact as well as having huge significance for the future.

Marko Arnautovic touched the ball 39 times during his 68 minutes on the pitch, when he was replaced by Lucas Perez he left the field to a considerable amount of booing and his body language looked like someone who had fallen out of love with the club, and the fans showed just how much they had fallen out of love with the player. Hindsight is a wonderful gift, and with hindsight it probably would have been better just to sell 'Arnie' on during the Chinese transfer window, given his recent lack lustre performances it is not as if his value is going to go up is it? This train of events is similar to the "Payet" situation except in a way the club dodged a bullet by at least making a decent profit and removing a potentially 'toxic' element from the dressing room.

No one is particularly going to emerge from 'Chinagate' with much to smile about, the person who needs to look at himself most forensically is not Marko Arnautovic but his brother Danijel, who somehow turned his brother from hero to zero because he couldn't resist talking to Talk Shite' in a greedy and amateur attempt to force through the lucrative move to China that was available. It is an agents job to get the best for their player, but in this instance he managed to turn Arnie's head so far he ended up believing his own myth before metaphorically disappearing up his own backside.

It was perhaps inevitable that Arnautovic would eventually leave the club under a storm cloud given his history, but it is a situation that could and should have ended well, instead it is just a salient lesson with regards to player power. West Ham under Manuel Pellegrini is a much bigger and better entity when harmonious, the club's most successful run of games this season did not feature Marko Arnautovic because of his injury, without him other players stepped up to the plate.

It was good while it lasted, but it is time for the club to move on, there will be a 'helluva' cull during the summer as Manuel Pellegrini looks to shape the side using player he has signed not those he inherited, hopefully the club can still get a decent price for Arnautovic and that he isn't viewed as 'damaged goods', money received can go towards transfer fees and wages. The Hammers hierarchy will know that despite being 'this charming man', Pellegrini will be like a rat up a drain up' when it comes to pursuing them for the equivalent to last season's eye watering budget, it looks like he may have to employ a similar ruse, be it kidnap or black mail whatever he did he managed to succeed where all others have failed.

If he is backed properly, Manuel Pellegrini will have assembled a mouth watering squad of talent to start next season, given recent results European competition might just be an aim too far for this season, but while it is mathematically possible the manager will expect maximum commitment from his players, one of the reasons Arnautovic will be on the bench more often than on the pitch for the remaining games, and then he will be off, his time has run. - Ed

We already have two tier officiating, so what is the point of two tier VAR??Dean, Oliver, Marriner & Moss is a great name for a firm of Solicitors! You CAN'T have one FA Cup quarter final with VAR and another without. Can someone explain to me why Martin Atkinson's sending off of the Man Utd player was a clear mistake??? We ended up having to wait for ages for someone else's opinion to overturn someone else's opinion. No difference there then...as was the outcome. Manchester City got away with murder because of totally incompetent officiating. Why do all the vital decisions go the way of the BIG clubs??? When will an official be punished FINANCIALLY for obvious mistakes??? I'm almost 59...so probably not in my lifetime!

Arnie To Start-Pellegrini To Finish-He's Not Stupid!

Submitted by nevillenixon on Fri, 15/03/2019 - 13:39

Having proved his point by dropping his top striker for several matches, Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini is clever enough to avoid 'cutting his nose off to spite his face' by intimating that Marko Arnautovic will lead the line from the start in the match against Huddersfield town at the London (hopefully soon to be renamed Tesla) Stadium this Saturday.

The line has been drawn in the sand regarding last weekend's appalling performance against bottom three side Cardiff City, part of the process to rapidly move on is to start Arnautovic against The Terriers who are all but relegated, however can still mathematically survive as they have 14 points with just 8 games remaining, unfortunately apart from West Ham they also have to face Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool in their run in so they are done dusted! That said, the visitors will be playing for pride and future contracts so they will be dangerous adversaries, if Hammers stroll out with a 'billy big bollocks' attitude they may well come a cropper.

On the topic of starting the player who was West Ham United's talisman before 'chinagate' Manuel Pellegrini had this to say, “Marko was out of the team for several reasons. First, because his mind was out when he had the option to go to China. Then he returned and didn’t work for about a week, so he needed time to recover his performance. After that, he was sick. He was going to start against Manchester City but he felt bad that day. There’s a lot of reasons why he was starting on the bench, but I think he is ready to return in his position.”

This statement will come as a relief to many fans who were beginning to worry that Arnautovic might become disenfranchised by the treatment being dished out by his manager, however it has to be appreciated that a manager of Pellegrini's standing cannot afford to tolerate indiscipline even if it is from one of his star players. Hopefully the past is water under the bridge and 'Arnie' can pick up where he left off, judging by pictures from yesterday's training both player and manager looked really happy, either that or they are both great actors!

Starting Arnautovic when fit is a bit of a no brainer, he might not make the full 90 minutes given his recent lack of game time, but he can bully the opposition defenders senseless until he runs out of puff, then perhaps 'Cheaterito' for the closing stages where he can earn free kicks, possibly penalties(sic). Pellegrini also alluded to the fact that Pablo Zabaleta will start at right back, Ryan Fredericks dropping to the bench is probably a good thing as he had an absolute stinker against Cardiff, then again most of the team did but it is felt that 'Zaba's ' professionalism is required for this particular fixture. There is also the possibility of the 'General' Fabian Balbuena starting ahead of Angelo Ogbonna alongside Issa Diop, however that would be rather harsh on the Italian who has performed well once he shook off his ring rust.

Probable team to face Huddersfield: Fabianski, Zabaleta, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Noble, Rice, Snodgrass, Lanzini, Anderson, Arnautovic. Subs: Adrian, Balbuena, Nasri, Masuaku, Antonio, Fredericks, Hernandez

Andy Caps Off Hammers Career With Final Injury Flourish

Just after the medical staff at West Ham had finished patting themselves on the back for having finally cracked the 'Carroll Injury Code', they heard that old familiar V8 rumble of Andy's Overfinch Range Rover as it attempted to pull in to his usual parking space. There was a bit of a kerfuffle when Carroll realised that the space that he had occupied for so long had been taken by 'that Wilshere geezer's imported US 1960's Ford Galaxy ambulance.

Back in the day the two of them would have squared up in the car park with whatever walking aids that were available, sadly now in the sanitised politically correct modern era of football they had to be content with trolling each other on Instagram. This altercation will be a thing of the past at the end of the season, it is a matter of debate as to whether Jack Wilshere will still be at the club by the end of the summer transfer window, his time at West Ham having been little short of disastrous. However Andy Carroll will most definitely be on his way, there are those who say that having spent a fortune in wages for a player who was generally side lined through injury that the club should activate the available contract extension in order try to recoup some of the money lost, just by getting Carroll fit enough to sell on.

Unfortunately, to use an old motoring analogy, Andy Carroll is like some old classic cars, absolutely wonderful when they are running but cannot be relied upon to work when you need them, as they get older they cost even more to maintain. At some point the owner has to decide to cut their losses and move on, the classified ads are full of "£20,000 spent in last three years available for £7995" vehicles.
Andy Carroll joined West Ham on loan from Liverpool for the 2012–2013 season, he played 24 games and scored 7 goals. Carroll signed a six year contract with West Ham in 2013 and has played 102 times scoring 26 goals, the club paid a £2 Million loan fee for the 2012–2013 season and then signed Carroll permanently for a fee of £15 Million. Carroll spent the loan year earning £80,000 per week, for the next six years the club committed to paying him £90,000 per week.

By the end of his contract Andy Carroll will have been paid a total of £32,240,000 in wages, his initial loan fee was £2 Million which along with the £15 Million permanent transfer fee means that The Big Geordie will have cost West Ham a staggering total of just under £50 Million! To put this eye watering amount in perspective it equates to : £390,795 per game and £1.495 Million per goal based on 126 appearances and a goal scoring tally of just 33.

Contract extension? There's a Giraffe involved somewhere isn't there"- Ed

Pelle's Bonzo Boot Camp Awaited Hammers Players After Dismal Defeat

Manuel Pellegrini, or this 'Charming Man' as he was known to Manchester City fans while managing at the Etihad, was far from charming when he met up with his players for Monday's post match analysis of Saturday's dreadful performance against relegation strugglers Cardiff City.

Apparently there was some 'styrofoam damage' done to drinking receptacles, the players not being allowed to use real china for fear of freak injury, followed by a 'Bonzo' style work out the likes of which Rush Green has never seen before, it made Moyes and Psycho look like Yoga teachers.

It seems that the venerable and highly experienced Pellegrini has realised that he has credited several of his players with more intelligence than they actually have, and that some of them perform to a higher level when 'challenged' to do so on a regular basis, hence his 'falling out' with players like Lucas Perez.

At the end of the day it will be his way or the highway when it comes to Pellegrini's dealings with players, by this time next season his ethos will be firmly engrained in those players who remain after what will be little short of a cull in the Summer.

A 43 year old Billy Bonds regularly used to out run the 'young 'uns' during pre-season back in the day when the squad used to decamp to just near Southend On Sea in order to run up and down sand dunes, he did what he thought was expected of him despite having a dodgy toe that eventually nearly had to be amputated. Bonzo came from a different breed of player, they did what they were told and recognised how fortunate they were to be paid to play, not giving their all didn't enter in to the equation, they couldn't let themselves down, but above all the fans who had spent there 'hard earned' to be there.

Back to the future can be beneficial at times! -n Ed

Good For Founders Not So Good The Rest As Season Tickets Go Up In Price

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Tue, 12/03/2019 - 11:20

Having essentially frozen season ticket prices since the move to the London Stadium from the Boleyn Ground, West Ham United have announced various price increases for next season's tickets. Prices for cheapest founder tickets went up last year by default, in order to get the £298 offer it was neccassary to renew for two years, otherwise the price was £320, exactly what it will be for next season, all good there then.

Unfortunately some of the 'premium' season tickets are going up substantially, but this was aways going to happen especially given the 'healthy' waiting list for there now exists for season tickets. One surprising section of the renewal process states:

ADDITIONAL SEATS AND RELOCATIONS
As an extra benefit, you will be able to apply for a limited number of single seats, giving you the opportunity to secure an additional Season Ticket in your block or the adjacent one. These seats are subject to availability. There is also an allocation of seats across all price bands which Season Ticket Holders can request to move to when renewing on a first come, first served basis. To find out more about additional seats and relocations please call the Ticket Office on 0333 030 1966. Any other Season Ticket Holders wishing to relocate to new seats will be able to do so from Wednesday 22 May until Friday 24 May, with relocations prioritised by renewal date.

This does rather beggar the question of where the ' limited number of single seats' that can be applied for as 'As an extra benefit' are coming from? Mixed messages seem to be coming from the season ticket department, if you follow the maths of the situation it becomes extremely confusing. With apparently up to 20,000 people on the waiting list why offer additional seats to people who already have access to the Stadium instead of those who have paid to be on the waiting list?

More questions than answers, the situation will be of great benefit to those who wished they had purchased more season tickets when they were able to initially, but it does seem unfair on all those who have coughed up to be on the waiting list.
