We've Had All The In's Now Who Are The Out's At West Ham?

With the closing of the transfer window for Premier League clubs to buy or trade with each other the only deals that can now be done are outgoings to either non-UK based clubs or loan deals to those in the EFL and below. Back in the dark days following relegation Hammers fans will remember what is was like to be hoping for good deals or 'exotic' loans from 'top' teams when the transfer window closed for Premier League teams, players viewed as suplus to requirements represented an ideal way for cash strapped lower league managers to strengthen their squads and give hope to their fans.

Young hopefulls Reece Burke and Domingos Quinna have already left the club on permanent deals for extraordinarily low fees, in addition to Cheik Kouyate who has left to join London rivals Crystal Palace also for an extraordinarily low fee, apart from that there has been little indication as to exactly who will be leaving the club and as to whether deals negotiated will be loans or permanent transfers.

There has been speculation that Robert Snodgrass could still be on his way to Aston Villa especially as they now have additional funding, however Manuel Pellegrini seems to rate the Scotts International highly and may well want to retain his services especially bearing in mind that Snodgrass is not on a high wage. In a way it is testimony as to just how well Hammers recruitment and retainment went during the transfer window, great players in and the 'crown jewels' retained in the form of Big Arnie Arnoutovic and Chic Pea.

For whatever reason, be it a 'misdirected' agent's guidance or believing in his own myth, Reece Oxford's career has gone backwards ever since he burst on to the scene with an inspiring debut as a 16 year old playing for a Hammers side that beat Arsenal at the Emirates. Then manager Slaven Billic, made it his mission to 'protect' Oxford from all the bright lights and diversions that he thought his prodigee would be subjected to, this he did successfully, unfortunately he inadvertantly suppressed the very nature of the player and as a result Oxford felt the need to be needed! Consequently Reece Oxford has been loaned out domestically with varied results, however during his two spells in Germany he has felt right at home and despite finding it hard to get game time initially he managed to endeer himself to a whole host of Bundesliga clubs, we expect him to be sold as Manuel Pellegrini clearly doesn't think Oxford has a future at the club. His sale could bring in around £10-12 Million, he was valued a little higher before being 'rejected' by both David Moyes during his tenure as manager and by new manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Sam Byram's services are sought by several clubs with Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and Leeds all keen on signing the 23 year old right back who has fallen well down the pecking order at the London Stadium following the arrival of Ryan Fredericks from Fulham although there is still a possibilty that he may be retained as back up given that Pablo Zabaleta is the only other right back apart from Fredericks.

Thankfully the club also held on to Antonio!- Ed

Is This Pellegrini's Team To Face Bournemouth?

This is how we figure Manuel Pellegrini will set his side up for the match against Bournemouth at the London Stadium, the line up is based on notes that El Pel had with him at his press conference ahead of the match, in a way it will be more interesting to see who will be on the bench, there can only be seven players so will they be Fabianski, Zabaleta, Yarmolenko, Balbuena, Chicharito, Snodgrass and Obiang? - Ed

And lo, it doth begineth again……
So, what are the expectations? Do they hang low or are they soaring? Or are you the Trevor Brooking fence sitting champion? Or are you are mixture of all 3 depending on which type of substances you are absorbing into your bloodstream?
I’ll plead the latter.
The heavy cloak of cynicism that was bequeathed to me by my father will always anchor me. Too many players to gel, unclear playing style, lack of defensive midfield cover, too many players with lack of top flight English football experience. Sadly that particular chip refuses to fall from my shoulder.
But…
Dangerous word where we are concerned.
But could El Pell and his love bullets have played this well?
Here is my breakdown, which, as any good reader should know, is worth gold dust, therefore you should feel proud and privileged to be allowed into this quadrant of my brilliant mind. After reading I suggest to you take an iron brush and fairy liquid into a cold shower, in case you strayed whilst wandering into my thoughts. The adjoining rooms from West Ham in the frontal section of my cranium contain thoughts about leaping badgers with shotguns wearing fedoras, chasing Girls Aloud, who are wearing Tesco bag for Life’s and little else. The less said about the other room the better, in this family orientated forum. All I’ll say is WD40 a packet of minstrels and Jennifer Aniston.

Fab Pantski: 7/10: A solid if unspectacular signing. Should we have used the £40M on Butland? We shall see. Fab Pants is decent. POTY @ Swans last season but I was 3rd so that says much. He’ll push Adrian and I think Adrian will see this as genuine competition he could win. Dream scenario is both pushing each other to the max. Downside is one becomes frustrated and No1 battle is removed. Keepers make an awful big difference in the top league. Look at the money Chelski and the scouse have shelled. Maybe keeping powder dry for Pope next season?

Fred (ericks): 6/10: Potential is a word that worries me when I haven’t really seen someone play. Also the phrase “I hear good things”. Essentially we have a championship RB. Could go the way of Byram or Cresswell (season 1). The little I’ve seen of him he seems game, fast, but that’s the minimum I would expect. Whether he can tackles like a demon, hold the line with fellow defenders and cross for toffee, are unknown.

Rocky/General (Balbuena): 5/10: Literally no idea. Lots of people saying he is a beast (whether this is bedroom talk or pitch I’ve no idea). I have to go with a mark straight down the middle. Apparently he won the league in Brazil? I think my cats team came runner up that year, so I’ll take no notice. This feels like a punt by Ell Pell in just wanting numbers for this position as we seem to suffer at the heart of our defence. I can see him being marmite, like a Repka character (whom I hated and thought woeful). I hope I’m wrong.

Diop: 5/10: Again, no idea. Lot of money for a kid. French U21 gives some credence given their current status. Never seen him play, never heard of him before. £20m+, I would argue, needs him to be first team ready. But for some reason, I don’t see that. Yet. I’ve heard he’s got pace. But so has Phil Jones…

Dirty (Sanchez): 4/10: Poor in my opinion. Feels like a reach. Feels like other preferable targets were unobtainable. Seen him play. Not greatly impressed. Feel like making up numbers in case Rice/Obiang injured. Again, hope I’m wrong, but I’d like to think we’d have had a youngster to play this 3rd string role.

Jack: 8/10: Best bit of business in the window. Best English midfielder I’ve seen since Scholes. Lovely balance, good feet, low centre of gravity, looks up, plays forward, takes people on, gets back, tackles, plays 1-2. He will really be a wonderful asset. And for the money we paid, a snip. But…we all know the downside. Can he last ¾ of a season? Will he be the Big mans best friend in the (flying) physio room? The cynical cloak tells me there’s a reason why a top 6 club didn’t fight for him…

Lucas: 7/10: Second best bit of business in the window for me. Again, nice player, knows the league. Lovely left foot, creates, scores, gets involved. Puzzled as to the fee (cynical cloak) but seems to play (season in Spain last year) so injuries don’t seem to an issue. Plays a No10 role, so could provide options should Jack get a knock, in front of midfield, behind striker. Clever business for me.

Yarmadillo: 6/10: I know a bit of him. Seen some lovely things, some average. Has pace. We need that. Attacks people which is always advantageous. Hoping he can swap wings as that will make him very useful when we need to approach teams differently or try something new. With Antonio (Snodgrass?) vying for this type of role, he needs to be on his game or could find bench warming duties, which could be a good thing.

Prince Felipe: 6/10: Our record breaking signing. Again, YouTube clips are my only real insight into this chap. I like the look of him, saw some lovely pieces in pre-season which suggests the talent is there. A new Payet? We hope so. But again, no top flight English experience. He’ll have pressure because of the price tag, so I’m hoping he has broad shoulders, is brave and has some swagger. He’ll be targeted by opposition fans (waste of money) and we need to remember Bergkamp was rubbish in his first season for Arsenal.

So an average transfer marking of 6/10. Not great of course. Very middling to be fair. But perhaps more representative of the unknown quantity of the player in this league. What is a positive, is the fact we have got the numbers through the door. We needed more players and, what I’m actually most please about is they are signings, not loans. This is a sign of confidence (perhaps misgiven – cloak of cynicism) but I’d rather a player here and know he’s here. This should be more incentive all round. So credit on that score.

So now, settle back, plump up the cushions (spare one to hide behind). Lets hope Arnie picks up where he left off, inspired by new colleagues.

So buckle up sweet peas, hold on tight, the love gun is cumming.

And So It Begins

Well this is it all the money has been spent(unless you are a spud lol)players with potential in at every club(unless you are a spud lol)so let the drama that is the premier league unfold...in with an early prediction I expect Cardiff/Huddersfield to def go down and pick one from the following to join them...Newcastle/Southampton/Watford/palace.....top four will stay the top four with one exception that's the spuds!! could not win anything last season with the squad they had so how do they think they will be any better this time around? chelski will be hit and miss the gooners well that's a wait and see so its citeh/poo/manure+one other...as for us I think a respectable 8th or 9th can be achieved and if the squad stays fit(carroll aside)maybe we can shock a few....one things for sure the football will be better to watch and a lot more exciting than the last couple of seasons that is for sure....I wish El Pel and his team all the best I want the players to show just what they can do and most of all for we the fans to create an atmosphere to scare other clubs when they come to play at the White elephant! COYI.

Moore Than A Good Window For West Ham And Pellegrini

Admittedley the last day of the transfer window wasn't particularly spectactular compared to other clubs, but that is because all if not most of West Ham United's business was concluded relatively early, reminiscent of the way Manchester United used to conduct their transfer dealings when Sir Alex was in charge!

The sale of Quinna to fellow Premiership rivals Watford was a bit of a shocker, however it seems the move was 'agent generated' and Hammers had to make the best out of a bad deal, the measerly £1 Million fee is at least rumoured to have a decent purported 25% sell on fee, although that has yet to be officially confirmed. The very astute signing of Lucas Perez and the somewhat mystifying signing of Carlos Sanchez rounded off a very successful transfer window for the Irons, much credit is also due to the 'Huse', Mario Husillos, who has been instrumental in bringing the 'next level of players' to the London Stadium that fans have so desperately wanted to see for such a long time.

Although it might seem to be clutching at straws even before the season starts, at least Hammers' new signings will be a week or so ahead in training together as opposed to those players that other clubs have just managed to purchase at the last minute. When it comes to playing as a team those extra few days might prove crucial, especially in the early weeks of the season.

Overall there can be few West Ham fans dissapointed with the way things have panned out, begrudgingly credit must be given to the board who have at last opened their wallets! Quick call the Police! - Ed

Sanchez Completes Pellegrini's Jigsaw

nevillenixon's picture

As the transfer window 'SLAMS SHUT', the much beloved term of the Red Tops, Hammers fans will be extremely happy with the overall transfer activity of the club during the window. Carlos Sanchez was the final addition signing from Fiorentina on a two year deal along with the earlier signing of Lucas Perez from Arsenal.

The wind might temporarily be blown out of fan's sails by the news that Everton managed to 'pip' WestHam at the Post by signing Hammers' targets Bernard and Andre Gomes following that up by signing Yerry Mina, but they do have cash to burn so it was inevitable that the toffees would 'poach' so many Hammers' targets!

Sanchez has been brought in as a back up/replacement for Cheik Kouyate and is experienced in the Premier League having played for the Villa for a couple of seasons.

In Pellegrini we trust

I think all our business is done what Manny wants Sanchez for God only knows perhaps he sees him as a poor mans Yaya Toure and on reflection, I wish we got him instead, we will just have to see what he sees in Carlos that nearly every other west ham fan cant
But on the whole, I think that this is the best transfer window ever and I am getting really excited with the start of this season we now have a proper squad and I don't think you will see the same old squad every week e will be unpredictable, and I also think he will change our formation from game to game we are going to be a difficult team to 2nd guess what formation we are going, who are we going to play, and we have so many options a group of talented players with lots of different skills. What we've got to be careful of is expecting to much, think it is going to take us 1or 2 months for the players to get used to playing with one another and getting used to Playing in the premiership but We have a master technician in Pellegrini and probably the best signing of the summer because without him I don't think we would have attracted so many talented players. So COYI and lets look forward to some good attacking football this season

Low Cash For Lucas As Perez Moves To The LS In Cut Price Deal

West Ham United have practically stolen striker Lucas Perez from Arsenal for a bargain basement £4 Million rising to £5 Million with add ons. Things went very poorly for Perez following his £17 Million move from Deportivo de La Coruna to the Emirates, so bad were things for the player at Arsenal that he was farmed out for all of last season back at Deportivo on loan!

29 year old Perez has signed a three year contract and joins Ryan Fredericks, Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop, Jack Wilshere, Aindriy Yarmolenko, Fabian Balbuena and Felipe Anderson in moving to the London Stadium during this summer's transfer window. He told the offiicial site whufc.com “I’m very happy to be here at such an historic Club,” he said. “I’m very excited, as West Ham are giving me the chance to stay in the Premier League and I’m very happy to be part of this new project. West Ham have great fans and play in an amazing stadium, so to sign here brings me great joy. I’m very motivated.”

Director of Football Mario Husillos said of his new acquisition “We welcome Lucas to West Ham United,” he said. “He is a very experienced player that Manuel and I both know well from Spain. He has great technical quality, and can play as both the main striker or the second striker in a deeper role. He scores goals, but can also create them and link well with the midfielders. His style is different from the other strikers we have available to us, and that gives the manager more options for our attacking play. Lucas also has experience of the Premier League with Arsenal, and is familiar with life here in London, which of course means that he will take less time to adapt and be ready. From the very first meeting I had with Lucas, he made it very clear that he wanted to come to West Ham United and, for us, this is very important. We wish him every success during his time here.”

Perez looks as though he may be the final arrival at the London Stadium, but as we write this article there are still over four hours left, after the window closes the only business will be outgoings to European or overseas clubs. - Ed

All Quiet On The West Ham Front As Club 'Utilise' Connections

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Thu, 09/08/2018 - 00:22

If you care to aggregate the various media outlets then West Ham United are in the business of signing anyone with a pulse! However the reality is that the Hammers have, under the guidance of Mario Husillos and Manuel Pellegrini, embarked on a recruitment process that has been both professional and productive, the envy of many opposition fans. Some of the 'linked' players the club has been associated with are 'top' players, but the reality is that the cupboard is now bare and that any future transfer activity will have to be funded by out going player transfers, the problem being West Ham have few, if any, players that the club can afford to off load.

Long term injuries to Andy Carrroll, Winston Reid and Manuel Lanzini have somewhat compromised new manager Manuel Pelleginii's approach to the forthcoming season, but given the quality and the calibre of the players recently recruited the gap may well have been closed as tight as a you know what! - Ed
