Will Pellegrini Risk Playing Anderson Against AFC Wimbledon?

Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini whilst desperately wanting a morale boosting win may well want to 'protect' certain players, namely one Felipe Anderson, during tonight's 'old fashioned' blood and thunder Elk Cup tie away to AFC Wimbledon. There are plenty of first team players who can't wait to start a match in West Ham's colours for the first time this season, left back Aaron Cresswell is yet to start a match and this fixture might be just right for him, however there is the possibility that Pellegrini may wish to try out certain 'fringe' players such as Sead Hakšabanović, Nathan Holland and new striking sensation Xande Silva.

Hammers just cannot afford to have 'some big lump' kicking bits out of Anderson so early in his West Ham career, his performance at the Emirates last weekend even earned praise from Jamie 'never has a good word to say about West Ham' Redknapp! "West Ham may have lost at Arsenal but Anderson was electric," said Redknapp. "Playing through the middle he ran 7.3 miles, more than any team-mate, made Marko Arnautovic's goal and set up another two chances. With such a creative spark in their side, West Ham have to be more clinical," he added.

Tonight could be the night when the team can be more clinical, but The Dons will see this as their cup final, apparently there has been a rush to sponsor match day shin pads and head bandages! - Ed

We'll have full team news as soon as it is available, we will 'twatter' it, and do other media things as well.

Arnie Will Be Back-But Not Against The Dons In The Elk Cup!

Manuel Pellegrini is not taking the game against AFC Wimbledon lightly and has already stated he will field a 'full strength' side for Tuesday night's live on Sky broadcast, however that side will not include Marko Arnoutovic who Pellegrini has confirmed as having a 'slight' hamstring injury incurred during the match against Arsenal, the injury will rule the Hammer of the Year out of the Cup match but the club are hopeful of his return for the vital home game against Wolves this coming weekend.

Pellegrini is correct in saying that he will field a full strength team because for the first time in a good few years it will be possible to put out a really decent 'B' Team that is a very capable one, moreover it gives the opportunity for the manager to have a look at certain fringe players while still fielding a strong team. Of course the match will be played out under the floodlights and on TV, with the broadcaster obviously hoping for a 'giant killing'.

El Pel is a wiley old fox and has navigated the Cup David and Goliath situation on numerous occasions, but there is always the chance of an upset, a situation that he will obviously be intent on avoiding, therefore expect him to really go for the result, it is too early in the season for any player to complain of tiredness or fatigue so this match should be a very useful barometer of who has it and who hasn't.

Antonio also picked up an injury during the Arsenal match, apparently he 'tweaked' something, this is worrying as he has only recently returned from an operation to repair a long term troublesome groin injury. Pellegrini has plenty of options when it comes to his team selection, and despite the fact that there could be a Cup at the 'end of the rainbow', will be able to 'experiment' a little with regards to who he selects.

One thing that is for sure is that he won't abandon his mantra of attacking football, it could be a bumpy ride, but for some reason despite the three losses so far, there appears to be a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, or is at the beginning of the rainbow? - Ed

Arnie Made Captain But Noble Says "I'll Be Back!"

West Ham travel the short distance across London to the Emirates Stadium to take on an Arsenal side that shares the dubious tag of being without points after two Premer League matches, both clubs have new managers and several new players to integrate in to their systems, West Ham more so than Arsenal. Another similarity is that both teams will be without players who were once considered to be the 'main man', in Hammers' case it is captain Mark Noble, and for Arsenal it is Mezut Ozil, both players have been deemed past their prime by fans and pundits alike, in Ozil's case the German international team manager waided in accusing Ozil of playing like S**t for the last few years.

Noble's absence will mean apart from replacing the player, Manuel Pellegrini must also appoint a new captain for the Arsenal match at least. The overwhelming support among fans is for last year's Hammer of the Year Marko Arnoutovic to be made captain, Social media is awash with fans urging Pellegrini to appoint 'Arnie'. At this point a lot of fan's sites will copy and paste Twiiter comments about Arnie and the captaincy, however at the Org we believe if you want to read Twitter comments that you should use Twitter! The same applies for Instagram comments Etc, it is lazy journalism and is a bit 'click baitish'!

Pellegrini has the chance to restart his West Ham tenure this afternoon at the Emirates, Noble's unavailability means the manager can go ahead and select the team he has probably always wanted to field, pace and power utilising a high line has always been his mantra, and with a more mobile midfield he stands a far better chance of reaching the high standards he expects.

Part of the joy of having a decent sized squad is that fans can become armchair managers and pick their best squad, below is one mooted line up, but who knows? Manuel Pelegrini wanted to wring the changes, this afternoon's match will present him with plenty of opportunity, Marko Arnoutovic instead of Mark Noble will be a different form of captaincy even though Mark Noble has already said " I'll be back", mark our words! - Ed

How times have changed!

So here we are again, another saturday at the beginning of another new season....Hands up who is bored of it already??
There was a time when the working week was over & everyone looked forward to the match day,few beers before the game, the buzz of the area,etc...but for me the move has changed everything, ive tried it & its not for me...
We have owners that came in 8 years ago,fed us a load of spin, did a modern day East End slum clearance & weve fallen for it hook, line & sinker imo...
Spent 100 mill, got a "world class manager" & already its a relegation 6 pointer against the arse!!bloody hilarious really when you think of it,i reckon the only real positives are the away games where you still get the hardcore westham support like the old days & they will be singing their heart out today...any other positives people??

Would You Adam & Eve It Captain Nobbled By Back Injury!

Back in the day before we at the Org were banned from West Ham United press conferences, Journo's used to ask quite telling questions, if they were too much the manager would give a look that meant it was a no go area and the subject would generally be dropped. When Manuel Pellegrini spoke to the media he quickly recounted the injury situation that everyone knew about, Carroll, Reid and Lanzini, all long term, but then he casually mentioned that club captain Mark Noble had 'picked up' a back injury! What was he doing? Trying to get a piano upstairs? No one pursued the matter to an extent that was warranted, and the news just sort of 'slipped through'.

Sorry, but Manuel Pellegrini is not called the Gentle man for nothing, it would have been just as easy for him to have dropped 'Nobbs' in the public glare, but he has a lot more style than that. Noble's 'back injury' has removed a painful decision ahead of the Arsenal game for the manager as whether or not to play 'Mr West Ham', some would say it was a convenient co-incidence, either way all the fan sites and media, including the Org, have got their way and expect to see a 'new look' midfield.

Noble's injury, fake news, convenient or not, has opened up the midfield berths leaving Pellegrini with a lot of options from a lot of choices, experimenting against a team of Arsenal's quality is a risky business even if they are still 'running in' under new manager Emery's guidance. We are not inferring that Mark Noble's injury is pure invention, most professional sports people endure 'niggles' on a repetitive basis which only increase with the advancement of time. Indeed Noble played last season with a Hernia that needed operating on, he only underwent the surgeon's knife once safety against relegation had been confirmed!

For a long time Mark Noble has run his heart out for the club, cut him and he'll bleed Claret and Blue, when he was able to play along side top players in the past he was able to excell, however it does look as if his time as part of the starting line up is coming to an end. Manuel Pellegrini will not 'throw him under the bus', he is far more likely to ease him away from front line duty tactfully and with dignity. That is not to say that Mark Noble won't be pushing for his place back when he has 'recovered' from his back injury, far from it, after all he has seen off a good few managers in his time, and not all of them have 'fancied' Noble initially or at times during their tenure, but it didn't stop him working his way back in to the team, however he can't just hit the 'Go' button and suddenly haul back the years perpetually, there has to be a cut off point and maybe that time has finally arrived.

Most fans realistically expect Hammers not to win or even get a draw, but the manner in which they play will be very important, and although the Emirates is a big Stadium the fans can be as quiet as those at the London Stadium on a bad day, furthermore, with one exception, all of Hammers' new signings have 'big game' experience and should be able to go out and express themselves in what could be a lot less of a hostile environment than when they are playing at home. £100 Million must surely have ticked a few boxes, it might nearly have put majority share holder and co-owner David Sullivan in to one after he had to write out the checks!

Perhaps the Pellegrini effect will take root this weekend, perhaps not, but there needs to be solidarity while the club is in transition, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will West Ham become the club it aspires to be in the short term, but a bit of steady progress would go a long way to calming already sensitive nerves around the club. - Ed

The Ginger Pele Returns To Help El Pell's Defenders

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Thu, 23/08/2018 - 10:32

Just months after informing him that his services were no longer required, West Ham United are considering a season's long deal for the out of contract James Collins. The 34 year old Welshman has been training with the main squad for the last few days prompting hopes that the ever popular defender might return to the club that he has spent 11 years with in total.

For the record Collins was NOT dismissed from the club by e-mail, he did receive an e-mail but it was an generated automatically by the H R department, he was informed of the club's decision not to extend his contract in person which explains why he is back with the club, had he been treated as badly by the club as some media sources have intimated he would never have returned, his affection for West Ham has never been in doubt as was witnessed by his tearful exit at the end of his last match at the London Stadium, the crowd chanting "there's only one ginger Pele!"

Collins was a hell of a mentor for Declan Rice and was instrumental in helping the youngster break through in to the first team, his presence if only on the training pitch will help Rice mature and develop further. If Collins does sign up for another season, as seems highly likely, he will be doing a 'Carlton Cole', who was dismissed from the club only to be brought back during an injury crisis! Poor Old Carlton has just been declared bankrupt, makes people wonder what sort of agent he employed during a career that should have earned him a lot of money.

Is 'Ginger' fit enough to go straight in to the first team against Arsenal? Probably not, but what he lacks in pace and grace he makes up for with steelly interceptions, it is doubtful that he would have let Bournemouth 'take the mick' on his watch. The Arsenal game is going to be stressful for both sets of supporters who began the season with great hope but have yet to see their teams register a point, on paper Arsenal should 'monster' this match but they appear to be just as fragile as the Hammers, their direction is just as unclear under their new manager as West Ham's is under Pellegrini.

One thought that occured to us at the Org, is what would Hammers fans prefer if given the choice of having either Mark Noble or James Collins but not both in the team? Collins, by the nature of the position he plays, is less likely to be exposed by pacey players, after all he has spent years perfecting the art of being a defender and is also not above the 'dark Arts' side of the game when it comes to stopping an attacker.

Rush Green had better make sure the shaver adapters are working. - Ed

Clean Sweep To Follow The Axe At Pellegrini's West Ham

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Wed, 22/08/2018 - 16:57

Following on from the 'Axeman cometh' headlines since Saturday's defeat against Bournemouth, it is now being claimed that Manuel Pellegrini is preparing to make as many as five or six changes as he attempts to make a clean sweep of what many have percieved to be his plan (A), are these the actions of a new manager already hitting the panic button or those of an experienced professional merely sorting the wheat from the chaff?

Two games in it is hardly fair or indeed realistic to judge how well Manuel Pellegrini is doing, but the Premier League isn't fair or forgiving in the slightest, it's the toughest dog eat dog league in the World which is why so many people around the Globe pay to watch it! What is clear is that the new manager hasn't found the correct balance for his team as yet, it is one thing playing friendlies and entirely different partaking in competitive matches, the midfield and defence have come under more scrutiny than the Tesla files in the last few days!

Pellegrini does have plenty of options, maybe too many, for those on the outside looking in he has virtually two different teams to choose from, perhaps therein lies the problem. If he selected his team based soley on performance and potential as opposed to past and pride, his starting eleven could feature as many as six players who were either not at the club or had not featured regularly in the past. To make widespread changes to the starting line up could be considered to be a risk, but Pellegrini has to do something the turn the tide and his possible line up could be Fabianski, Fredericks, Diop, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Rice, Obiang, Wilshere, Anderson, Yarmolenko, Arnoutovic. That would mean benching or not even selecting for the Squad Zabaleta, Balbuena, Masuaku, Noble, Snodgrass and Chicharito.

Zabaleta probably doesn't deserve to be dropped and could be retained instead of Fredericks due to his big game experience, but the rest can have little reason for bemoaning their situation, it is not as if they haven't been given their chances. It seems absurd so early into the season but they are already drinking at the last chance saloon, how times have changed? The most successful domestic manager in recent history was given years not weeks to establish himself when he took over Manchester United, but then again it was before the Premier League had been formed wasn't it, a sign of the times?- Ed

Pellegrini To Swing The Axe

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Tue, 21/08/2018 - 14:28

Manuel Pellegrini looks certain to 'wield the axe' ahead of the london derby against Arsenal at the Emirates this weekend, having seen his team trounced 4-0 by Liverpool on the opening day of the season followed by the lame 2-1 capitulation to Bournemouth at the London Stadium, change is afoot. The 'nice' man will not be so nice in the future, the results will have opened his eyes up to the size of the task ahead of him although he must have had a pretty good idea of what was to come! Loyalty will defintely go out the window now El Pel's 'honeymoon' period is over, he will now have realised that he will have to 'get radical' inorder to sort his side's inherrant problems out, starting with the midfield, quickly followed by the defence, both areas need a complete overhal in order to be fit for purpose, the manager has given everyone enough time, now he needs to be ruthless and swing the axe

Interestingly when Snachez replaced Noble, about twenty minutes too late according to many fans opinions, the midfield suddenly tightened up, and indeed it was Sanchez who nearly scored with a speculative long range shot that was deinitely worth the effort, perhaps a course of action that others should have adopted earlier in the game. With all the 'World Class' players fielded by Pellegrini supporters at least expected something 'exotic', instead the bulk of those wearing claret and blue seemed petrified to take a shot or sprint towards the box, their efforts invariably ending with a sideways pass to the opposition!

This 'diatribe' is not meant to call individual players out, more of that later, it is merely to point out the fact that the new players are playing with fear and are not performing anywhere near the level that they are capable of individually and collectively. The manager has shown faith in many of the players he inherited after taking over from David Moyes, Robert Snodgrass being one of them, now 'Snoddy' has come in for a lot of flack in the past, particularly from this site, however he was probably one of Hammers best performers against Bournemouth and has begun to resemble the player he once was before joining the club.

Unfortunately Snodgrass is an exception with regards to the players that Pellegrini inherited, the rest have hardly covered themselves with glory and must be making his grey hair even greyer as he contemplates how on earth to kick start the season, even if it only two games old! It was assumed that the experienced manager would use a blend of old and new players to create a team that 'gelled', the only problem being that the existing players have not been able to put in performances that give the new players a chance, they are experiencing a baptism of fire that wasn not anticipated.

Ok losing Manuel Lanzini was a catastrophic blow, the loss of a player of his quality would have an adverse effect on any team, creativley he was scheduled to be the main man before injury while training with Argentina so cruelly intervened, also the loss of Winston Reid has had a poor effect, despite picking up an increasing amount of injuries, Reid's presence on the pitch should not be underestimated, he is a 'warrior' and there will be many games where his total commitment will be needed this season, hopefully when he returns to fitness he will be able to play a part in providing a back bone for the team that newer players can align with.

There's no point in mentioning Andy Carroll as he is of course perpetually injured, but even Carroll jumping with one leg would have been better than nothing against Bournemouth! - Ed
