Bournemouth Or Wigan In The FA Cup
West Ham United have been drawn away against the winners of the Bournemouth versus Wigan replay for the fourth round of the FA Cup. Of course there is the less than small matter of having to overcome Shrewsbury Town in next Tuesday's replay at the London Stadium!
As the commentators of the match against Shrewsbury said, "West Ham cannot possibly play as bad as they did again". Well being West Ham that is not a given, the Shrewsbury players will feel like they are walking out at Wembley when they step out for the replay at the London Stadium, visiting teams, particularly those not used to playing on such a good surface in such a brilliant vista tend to up their game, hence the fact that Hammers' have achieved disproportionately good results against the 'top teams'.
Two players whose commitment in the first fixture has been called in to question are Cheikhou Kouyaté and Javier Hernandez, Kouyaté's lack lustre performance could well be attributed to havng played three full on games in the space of a week, but their was no excuse for 'Chicarito', he was just pants. OK the mexican striker was devoid of decent service but as West Ham's highest paid player surely he could have put a shift in? That lost art of chasing down the keeper in order to instigate a mistake and the even more forgotten art of making throw ins uncomfortable for the opposition when they attempt to take them, if your on £130,000 per week is it too much to ask that you make an effort?

Shrewsbury Town v West Ham United Team Sheets
Shrewsbury Town: Henderson, Bolton, Sadler, Nsiala, Beckles, Ogogo, Whalley, Nolan, C. Morris, Godfrey, Rodman. Subs: MacGillivray, Lowe, Dodds, Gnahoua, John-Lewis, B. Morris, Payne.
West Ham United: Hart, Burke, Rice, Reid, Ogbonna, Masuaku, Kouyate, Obiang, Cullen, Chicharito, Ayew. Subs: Adrian, Neufville, Quina, Makasi, Samuelsen, Haksabanovic, Martinez.

Home Is Where The Hart Is
Joe Hart returns to the club from where he started all those years ago and expects plenty of pelters from the home supporters of Shrewsbury, the BBC are going be there for what should be a good old fashioned FA Cup tie, unfortunately West Ham United are 'serial offenders' when it comes to losing against lower league opposition in cup competitions! Having already had his fingers burnt by Shrewsbury while he was manager at Everton, David Moyes will be on his guard in order to avoid a similar cup exit with the Hammers.
The selection of 'England's No1' raised more than a few eyebrows given his recent lamentable form and the fact that Adrian has made the goal keepers position his own of late, it is one of those situations where Hart might even have considered 'throwing a sicky' to avoid the glare of the cameras recording what will be an extremely tricky match to navigate. Recent rumours about Hart possibly going to St James' Park to 'bolster' Newcastle's survival hopes have taken on more credibility with the news that West Ham have just signed 'the future' in the form of highly rated Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Jinadu who has completed his transfer following a successful trial. The U-16 goalkeeper has signed a two year apprenticeship deal with the club having the option to extend by a further three years should things progress as planned,
Having been released by Chelsea Jinadu overcame his disappointment by training with Southampton, Tottenham, Leicester, Birmingham, West Brom and AC Milan before agreeing a switch to West Ham, he has caps for England's U15 national team and made his debut for the U16s against Uruguay in 2017, he is also eligible to represent the Republic of Ireland national teams, as well as England and Nigeria. Of course young Daniel is not going to be making the match day squad for some time, but his signing does give Hammers more strength in depth between the sticks than before and is a sign of the club looking more to the future, he is yet another player that West Ham have acquired from champions Chelsea, he joins up at the London Stadium with fellow ex-Chelsea youth players Declan Rice and Domino Quina.
Hammers have some really exciting young players on their books and today's 'live on network terrestrial TV' match will give people a chance to see what the young guns can do. However, David Moyes will NOT be sending his youth team to the slaughter as Sam Allardyce once did when he was managing West Ham against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, a match that saw Hammers trounced by 5-0 and a match that traumatised and destroyed the confidence of many of the youngsters who were selected for that fateful game.
Sead Hakserbanovic is one player who fans have been desperate to see start, not only for his sublime skills but also to hear match commentators try to pronounce his name properly, it's hard enough normally let alone in the heat of 'battle'! Sead represents the future along with players like Martin Samuelson, Josh Cullen and the two Reece's Oxford and Burke, hopefully they will be given a chance to show their worth and who knows today might present the opportunity for one or two of them to force their way in to the manager's thoughts for the first team. The youngsters will be given a platform to perform, some will inevitably sink, but some will prosper, after all the old adage "if you are good enough, you are old enough" still applies in football, just remember some of the 'greats' who began their first team careers as teenagers! - Ed

Brave Hart Or Silence Of The Lambs To The Slaughter?
Like it or not Under siege Joe Hart will start for West Ham against the team he began his career with, Shrewsbury Town, in this Sunday's FA Cup 3rd round televised on the Beeb, who are with no doubt hoping for a cup upset. Newly appointed Hammers manager David Moyes has declared his interest in 'winning' the FA Cup but has also honestly added the caveat that"staying in the Premier League" is the above all when it comes to football's configuration as it is perceived by long suffering supporters of the club.
A Host of Hammers 'b' listers will appear along with England's alleged Number one between the sticks Joe Hart, who will be keen to show just how good he really is given that the transfer window is open and that both Manchester City his parent club and West Ham might come to a suitable arrangement on behalf of both parties that allows Hart, who needs first class game time in order to ensure his inclusion in the England squad that goes to the FIFA World cup finals in Russia later this year.
Newcastle United have been rumoured to have shown an interest in taking Hart to St James Park, but Hart's eye watering £120,000 per week basic salary may well be a stumbling block, Manchester City are currently footing around £40,000 per week of his salary at West Ham but any future deal in the loan Window has been indicated that City would seek to gather back ALL of Hart's wages, on this basis Hart will probably remain a Hammer until the end of the season but after that he will definitely be returning from the London Stadium to the Etihad as a classic example of an 'experiment' that went wrong both financially and performance on the pitch wise!
Sunday's match against Shrewsbury Town is a classic 'bananna skin' for David Moyes' West Ham team, fielding a bunch of youngsters could be a recipe for disaster, but unlike when Sam Allardyce played an entire youth team that got thrashed by Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup to 'make a point' about 'playing yout'' and thus virtually destroying the famed West Ham Academy in one fell swoop, David Moyes will comply with the regulation that makes him have to select Hart and he will use of bunch of youth players but he will try to create a blend of a team that could progress into the next round without damaging his more immediate target o which is that of Premier League survival.
The televised match that kicks off at 2pm on Sunday could be a renaissance for the Hammer's academy or it could turn out to be a complete nightmare, but do you know what? It might be exciting, the likes of Toni Martinez and the incredibly hard to spell and pronounce Haksobanovic will feature in a much changed line up, but who knows it might just be their chance to shine away from the sheckles of the money tree that is the Barclays Premier League. - Ed

And guess what, West Ham are being linked with every player that is over twenty and under forty surprise surprise. How the so called tabloids luv to put shit on our club, if their is a good player or a shit player out there we are linked with him in some form or another. Looking at the players out side we have Sakho, Carrol, Ayew leaving, looking at the players in side so far there must be at least sixty players mentioned so far but let's face it our owners won't get any of them unless they are cheap or loans.
Being realistic I can see a couple coming in but which ones is still a lottery. We need to look at what positions need to be addressed to fix up the team and keep us up. Firstly goalkeepers, Adrian is by far first choice. Just my opinion but Hart is past it so send him back to City and find a decent second, I don't know who is available but their has to be some decent ones out their.
Defence, We have Zabs and while not young he still puts in a shift. Reid who I suspect is playing with an old injury but is falling behind a bit now so why not give Oxford a go. Ginger is a warhorse but getting on Fonte, Ogbonna some good but the occasional blunder, Rice the best potential we have seen in years Cresswell another good day bad day player, and Byram who has been out with injury for a long time. Who do we let go to replace.
Midfield, We have some good players but for me that's the area we need to improve. Kouyate has been out of sorts for a long time now, Obiang on his day can be good but doesn't seem to play well with Kouyat. Noble, apart from the occasional bad foul always puts in a shift and is definitely the heart and soul of the club. Masuaku, since his move further up the field has been a revelation. Lanzini, for me is still the man that can make this team a force but just seems to be missing something. Arno, playing further forward has been our best but this is West Ham and you know that sooner or later will pick up an injury. And lastly Antonio, runs all day but not quite fit enough lately and with an injury.
Forwards, Chitorito is not having the best of runs at the moment but the way we play is not suiting him either, Carrol, unplayable when he is on the field, when. Sakho, wants out so hopefully someone buys him. Ayew, a disappointment even though he is our best goal scorer.
So who can we realistically get in that will improve our team and keep us up, I could mention some but I would like to hear some of your views and discussions. By the way, also like to hear what the news of Calkers trial with us on a free.
Have West Ham Seen the Last of the Relegation Zone?
*It's fair to say that things were looking pretty bleak at the beginning of November, with West Ham deeply entrenched in a battle for survival at the foot of the Premier League table. Fast forward two months and the Hammers sit in 16th and whilst far from secure, they appear to have gained the belief and the momentum to keep them away from a return to the dreaded drop zone.

David Moyes wasn't high on the managerial wishlist of many West Ham fans but there is little doubt that the former Everton and Sunderland boss has changed the mentality of the squad, who were on the downward spiral under previous coach Slaven Bilic. Moyes has asked his players to stop looking over their shoulders and concentrate on moving towards much sought-after but occasionally derided mid-table obscurity. At the beginning of 2018, Swansea, West Brom and Stoke occupied the bottom three positions and all three have been beaten by the side from the capital already this campaign. West Ham should consider themselves a cut above that trio of strugglers.
January and February throw up perfectly winnable games against Brighton, Huddersfield and Bournemouth and it is these type of matches that will help define the remainder of their season. Moyes will have earmarked three points from these fixtures as his side aim to make up for their slow start to the campaign. The boss acknowledged that two or three consecutive defeats and the Hammers may end up back in the relegation mix but has warned his charges against approaching any match with a negative mindset.
Optimistic West Ham fans may be looking towards a top-half finish this campaign and a price of 9/2 is available in the Premier League betting markets for Moyes' side to finish in the top ten. Watford are just four points ahead of the Hammers and just seven points separate Everton in ninth and Southampton in 17th. Meanwhile, West Ham are now just 1/8 to remain in the top flight and are heavily fancied to avoid the drop.
Andy Carroll's brace against West Brom lifted his side out of the bottom three and the big striker will be hoping to get a run of games under his belt. His late two-goal salvo was indicative of the side's hard-working mantra under Moyes' tutelage and his winner could be one of the biggest turning points of the season so far. Whilst performances must not dip, the weight on the shoulders of the players must surely have been lifted after finally exiting the drop zone.

West Ham will make reinforcements during the transfer window and it's important that the money is invested wisely. Bournemouth duo Harry Arter and Ryan Fraser have been linked with a move to the London Stadium alongside in-demand Liverpool striker Danny Ings. Moyes is looking for new recruits who have Premier League experience and he is hoping he can make at least one or two additions before the end of the month. The squad is bloated and some outgoings can be expected, too.
There was a tangible relief around the stadium as West Ham lifted themselves temporarily away from danger and they must ensure they continue to look up the table and target a top half finish. They have renewed belief working under the Scot and they are extremely unlikely to fall below the dotted line again this season.
