  • cheer for the spuds?

    Never thought you would see that or i'd write it but just looking at Leicesters run in they have Barcodes/Manure/Chelski/Spuds....as well as of course the cup final against Chelski so if they don't win friday night against the Barcodes we could catch them if we keep up performances like last night and it might mean we are cheering for the spuds(WTF!!!!!!!)on final day something that any self respecting Hammer can bear to think about.....football sometimes make strange bedfellows but do we really want that? i feel dirty just thinking about it

  • Moyes 'Poker Face' Injuries

    Ahead of what has become an increasingly important fixture against Burnley at Turf Moor this evening, Hammers coach David Moyes has been exercising his injuries poker face. He has already miss led certain sections of the media with his ambiguous comments as to the fitness of Mikey Antonio, Aaron Cresswell, Authur Masuaku and finally Declan Rice!

    The only 'concrete' bit of information regarding player availability is that 'Les' Dawson has served his one match ban, and will be in the squad, other than that you will need to have played poker with David Moyes in order to ascertain if he is telling porkies, or if he is just unable to confirm or deny who will play as he has to wait on late fitness tests for the plethora of players already mentioned.

    Hammers lack of strength has obviously emerged to haunt the club, so there is no point in banging on about it as we are where we are and nothing is going to change the situation. Moyes has ducked, dived and shuffled his pack admirably, but he is down to the bare 'harry's' and has no room for manoeuvre.

    Hammers unlikely push for Europe could finally be derailed this evening, but it won't be for a lack of trying, perhaps the footballing gods are the only option for Moyes....therefore let us pray! - Ed

  • Villains Can Be Irons' Heroes!

    At the end of last season Aston Villa managed to survive relegation by the skin of their teeth, their cause helped in no small measure by West Ham beating all the Villain's fellow relegation strugglers.

    This season, despite an early flourish, Villa's European competition aspirations have been blunted, but they secured their Barclays Premier League survival way ahead of schedule, and had it not been for their main man Jack Grealish picking up a long term injury who knows how far they might have progressed.

    By a strange twist of fate, Hammers euro aspirations are very dependent on the results of not only our own games, but also by Villa's. The Midlanders play Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham and Chelsea among their remaining fixtures, the results of which have a massive significance on Hammers' unlikely push for Europe.

    On paper Hammers European Championship chances are between zero and none now, following the disastrous results against Newcastle and Chelsea, however, if the Villains can take points off of those teams in and around the top six they would effectively be playing for the Irons, a situation that would cause much confusion to John Terry the second in command at Villa Park.

    With West Ham players currently 'dropping like flies', Mark Noble being the latest addition, the team needs all the help it can get, and although it is an unusual source, it is to be hoped that the Villains can 'do their bit' to get the Irons into Europe. - Ed

    Just put that up because all the usual shite started......and well out of the three would we miss the other two? Antonio no need to say anything but good as he is we just count the games till the hamstring goes and Diop he has not been a regular this season covid issues and all that but we could get on without him and could get decent money for him.....so Lanzini/Yarma/Anderson all available we no that but its there wages that will put others off so Moyes is going to have to get creative with his squad and make unpopular decisions to try and boost the miserly Pot of cash he will have this summer....so who would you pick if you had to?

  • Irons Move To 'Firm UP' Moyes

    David Moyes's managerial contract was always up for 'review' at the end of the season, and nothing has changed in that respect. It is common knowledge that was a clause added to his contract on his return to the London Stadium which was 'place dependent', essentially if the club finished eighth or above he would have to be offered a one year extension to his tenure.

    Obviously Moyes has far exceeded his points target already, so renewing his deal is simple, isn't it? Moyes was unceremoniously 'dumped' by the club after he had saved it from relegation the FIRST time, he was ditched to make way for Manuel Pellegrini, who the club lavished vast amounts of money on, in an attempt at reaching the Champions League.

    The irony would not have been lost on Moyes as he was re-appointed in order to rescue the club from relegation for the SECOND time, and to try and rectify the damage caused by his predecessor. Moyes has proved to be better than anyone dared hope for on his return, he has the same swagger about him now as once had when he was the manager of Everton.

    All the well-deserved accolades, including winning the London football award for best manager, are wonderful, however there is a certain amount of insecurity building up ahead of Moyes extending his contract. Because as a result of the club's quite surreal change from relegation fodder to Champions League contenders, Moyes has become hot property.

    His name was in the frame for the Celtic managerial vacancy, but more recently he has been 'whispered' about by several clubs, humorously one of them being none other than dear old 'Tottingham'. Laughing aside, Moyes's stock has risen significantly and it is no surprise that he has 'become of interest' to other clubs.

    Certain assurances discussed in principal on Moyes's return will now have to be turned in to reality, otherwise he could well be 'poached' by clubs that CAN offer him the necessary resources, even in these Covid-19 fiscally affected times. Moyes has proved 99% of the doubters wrong, and has finally started to be seen as the manager he is, a builder and a motivator. If GSB mess up the renewal of his contract, they might as well order themselves a taxi! - Ed

  • Well, They Would Do That Wouldn't They? General's Red

    Surprise, surprise, Fabian Balbueana's red card has been rescinded, all a bit too late now isn't it? OK the game might have been beyond the Irons with ten minutes left and a goal down against Chelsea, but going down to ten men and losing a defender who is very handy in the air didn't help matters!

    The 29-year-old Paraguay international received a straight red card in the 81st minute for a 'foul' on Ben Chilwell that would have required the amputation of the 'General's' leg to avoid. David Moyes said the original decision had been made by someone "who's never played the game".

    Fabian Balbuena will now be available to play in Hammers' trip to Burnley on Monday, the 3rd of May. West Ham are still fifth in the Premier League, but are now three points behind Chelsea in the chase for fourth, the final qualifying spot for the Champions League, with five games of the season remaining. Hammers trailed to Timo Werner's goal when referee Chris Kavanagh dismissed Balbuena after watching a replay of the incident on a pitch side monitor following a check by the video assistant referee.

    "It was a really poor decision, a really rank, rotten decision and it shouldn't be given," added Moyes after the match. "Where's he meant to put his foot? We had a day where the refereeing has been really poor." The 'General's' dismissal and it's consequences yet again call in to question certain elements of VAR.

    The system works well for some elements of the game, but is atrocious in others, Referees find themselves in a situation that they have had to look at in real time being judged using ultra slow motion replays, the rule should be that VAR should only be used for situations where there has been a clear and obvious error from the officials, not when it requires analytical 'spooks' like attention to detail, the referee should be given the benefit of the doubt in all fifty fifty occurrences. - Ed

  • Michail Antonio Kidnapped?

    The 'wheels of hope' are in full swing as 'positive' news is emerging as to the fitness and availability for players who have been sorely missed in recent games that have seen Hammers push for Europe falter. Aaron Cresswell and Authur Masuaku are looking nailed on for the next crucial game, against Burnley on the 1st of May, the Clarets having just dismantled Wolves by 4-0 at Molineaux.

    Craig Dawson returns after his one match ban, and Fabian Balbuena's ludicrous red card, incorrectly awarded during the defeat to Chelsea will undoubtedly be rescinded, as the club have already launched their appeal, if that fails apparently the 'General' has offered to have his leg removed to avoid a similar situation occurring again!

    Promising news regarding Declan Rice's recovery from the injury he picked up on International duty has further increased the feel good factor, as there is at least a fifty fifty chance that the best midfielder in Europe will be available, if not for the Burnley game, then definitely for the game against Everton.

    All this 'positive vibing' is however compromised by the 'Elephant in the Room', or more accurately the 'Hamstrings in the Room'! Comments regarding Michail Antonio's recovery from injury are conspicuous by their absence, the Hammers striker seems to have disappeared without a trace, his parking space at the club's 'goose green' training ground remains empty, leading to some people thinking he has been kidnapped by members of the 'septic six' in order to permanently derail Hammers unlikely challenge for Europe!

    The extra three days of recovery time, courtesy of the TV broadcasters, afforded to David Moyes and his team, has been just what the doctor ordered, three days of 'Pearce & Love' will do the players the world of good, and hopefully the team can come out firing on all cylinders, but it might only be on six, as opposed to the full fat V8 that the team has when 'Big Mich' is playing.

    The lack of a replacement for the great sulk that was Sebastien Haller, has come back to haunt David Moyes, without knowing all the ins and outs of the situation, it is easy to lay the blame at the manager's feet, but as well know, the murky side of football is not always revealed until after the event, as has been seen by the machinations of the  'dirty dozen and the septic six'.

    If, and it is a big if, Michail Antonio can be patched up enough, then he has to play, his unique style of play 'discombobulates' the opposition to such an extent that errors creep in to their play leaving spaces for Hammers full energy attack to get in on goal...if ever there was a case for a short series of a cortisone treatment, then this is surely the time to deploy it. The consequences of 'cortisone abuse' can be far reaching, but Ant will have the entire summer to get fit and well again, and possibly do some work on his approach to games in order to offset the damage to his hamstrings, or at least limit it.

    it has been all hands to the pumps for several weeks, at least the team will start to vaguely resemble the one that blew other teams away earlier in the season. Five games remain that will define whether the club can equal it's best ever season, whatever happens it's been a hell of a ride, pass the heart pills will someone please! - Ed
