  • Jenkinson Ruled Out For Rest Of Season, Hérita Ilunga Anyone?

    Carl Jenkinson has returned to parent club, Arsenal, from his loan spell at West ham United in order to be treated for the cruciate ligament injury he sustained early on in the 2 - 2 draw with Manchester City, the 23 year old will miss the rest of the season, with june being pencilled in as his earliest return date. Jenkinson's second spell at the Boleyn cost the club a lot more than the first season that he was on loan, during that period his performances were lauded all round, but this season he was far off the mark, and was only being used for the Manchester City match due to an injury that James Tomkins had picked up, The fact that Slaven Billic was willing and happy for a centre half to fill the full back's slot is testimony to how far down the pecking order the ex- england U21 player had become. Jenkinson's fall from grace was similar to Hérita Ilunga many years ago, he arrived on loan and played brilliantly, after the loan became a permanent deal he got injured and was never the same again. Injuries are part and parcel of the modern game, and an unfortunate price that is paid for the frantic fare served up to a World audience that loves it! The flip side of all the massive wealth that the Barclays Premier League clubs have now, and indeed the huge increase in revenue they will receive next year, is a catalogue of injuries. Very few clubs have escaped, in fact it is hard to find any club, with the possible exception of league leaders Leicester City, that has not suffered massively. Of course the traditional big hitters have much larger squads and are able to cope better, but as the new TV money kicks in, that gap will grow smaller and smaller, eventually the playing field will become more level, and who knows which club might sink a la Leeds United. Hammers have come through an atrocious series of injuries to key players, but with them all returning within the next fortnight things are looking up - Ed

  • Bashing the Bishop…..

    I for one was a great fan of bashing the Bishop in the 90’s. He was often slow to respond, lifeless, ultimately felt he was far better a performer than he actually was.

    Ian gradually grew on me (not literally, that would be horrid – or would it?......hmmmm) as he did have a tad of culture, an eye for a pass.
    However he was always too nervy a midfielder.
    If he was hit early he’d go missing, like many others (Slater, Etherington).
    Whether or not he played with Trevor’s bottle opener is of no interest to me (it was to Mrs Trevor though) he managed to stumble through a career, mildly out of his nut, and forge a career in America as a, ahem, coach……? Really…..Jesus those Yanks really will suck anything English won’t they? I should know……
    I heard a podcast recently that had an interview with him. It’s a sycophantic podcast and I imagine the hosts must literally tongue their backsides during the questions, such is the cringe worthy matiness. They built Bishop into some seaweed headed legend……almost demanding he is at the final game, paraded round the pitch for nostalgia? Really? WTF? I get the impression these fanboys started supporting us in the 00’s as someone has clearly pulled the wool over their eyes here.
    A piss head scouser who took his arm chair on the pitch – not because he was so laid back, but because he pissed himself and fell asleep, would be a more apt description.
    Tell me again why I’m not invited on these podcasts?..........ha!
    FF 25 years or so and now it’s happening again?

    Nobbing the Noble?
    I’ve always been 50-50 on Mark.
    He has a degree of commitment and heart that set him apart from his contemporaries around the same era. I’d never bought into to the “he’s one of us” mantras.
    I care little if you’re from Billericay or Bloemfontein, as long as you show desire and passion for my badge, you’ll get my support.
    Yet there is a genuine divide now among supporters. I guess a lot of this is to do with competition. Mark has some of the hardest competition around him for some/any years.
    So are the vocal dissenters arguing he is not worth his place now, is he not consistent enough? Is he too slow?
    I’ve seen some games where he has directed play and showed an array of passing above anyone else we had on the pitch.
    I’ve also seen games he’s slowed down, or where he’s lunged into tackles as his legs did not carry the pace to marshal the opponent away from danger.
    Is it an issue if “Mr West Ham” (as the media lead us to believe) is marginalised from the team? Or is this a good thing and a show of strength in squad depth?

    I draw comparisons to Bishop, because , as poor as Bishop, there was frankly no-one else! Allen? Butler? Thomas? Jesus, those years of the early 90’s still wake me up in the middle of the night crying for Mother….

    I hope Mark’s gradual decent from the team is handled professionally. I for one respect him and all he has done. Carrying his duties out with great dignity and passion.
    Personally I feel he is now 4th in line for 3 midfield places (Kouyate, Song, Obiang) and as such I’m intrigued to see how the team perform tomorrow without his leadership?

    I hope he is able to rise to remaining challenges, and that there is still a flicker of a flame in those tanned thighs. However, testimonial out the way this summer, Id frankly be surprised if he has that armband in August…..
    Would this be a bad thing? Is he actually still worthy of a place in the side?
    I know Stuart Pearce was promoting a international call after the City game, but frankly the day I heed advice from Pearce is the day I shove my smartphone up my backside and set it to vibrate........oh.....damn......

  • Eminike Having Medical As Complicated Deal Nears Fruition

    Emmanuel Emenike is due to have a medical at the Spire Roding Hospital today ahead of his loan move to West Ham United, after Fenerbahce finally accepted West Ham's loan offer for the 28 year old Nigerian striker. Eminike had been on loan to Al Ain in Dubai from Fenerbahce, and one of the reasons for the delay in the transfer was that Al Ain had to 'un sign' the player on loan in order that he could be released to join up with Slaven Billic's Hammers chargers! Unfortunately since Emenike recently retired from International football, he does not automatically qualify for a work permit, and this is not a cut and dried process, so the move could still go a bit 'pete tong'. Crystal Palace and ex-West Ham manager nearly hijacked the deal, instead plumped for signing out of contract Emmanuel Adebayour, a player he had coveted ever since he tried to bring him to the Boleyn years ago. If all the difficulties can be surmounted, then Eminke would be a very welcome addition to the squad and could even be available for the home tie against Aston Villa on tuesday evening, his arrival would also give Billic the opportunity to expand his game plan along the fast counter attacking style he so obviously favours. Whether Eminike can hit the ground running in a similar way to Manuel Lanzini, who also played in the Arab League, is open for debate, but he is a far better option than some of the dross that has turned up at the Boleyn in the past during the transfer window. More battle hardened Hammers fans will be slightly wary of why Fenerbahce were (a) prepared to send Eminike out on loan to Al Ain in the first place, and (b) why they are prepared to now send the player out on loan to West Ham United ? - Ed

    never ever thought it would happen but on the 27th February 2016 I will be making my last ever trip to the Boleyn to see us play:-(....sunderland at home not the greatest game I suppose but the added spice of bfs returning should make it fun in more ways than one.
    first match I ever saw there was against stoke city we drew 1-1 both goals in the last 5 mins robson I seem to rmbr putting us in front only for west ham to be well west ham and let in a last min goal...the old north bank was where I watched all my west ham games from tried the west stand it was not for me and the only time in the south bank was that glorious evening we destroyed Newcastle 8-1.....had many ups and downs like we all have down the years but knowing this will be the last time I will walk down green street towards the ground past the market down to the pie and mash shop on the barking road....being herded like sheep back to the underground station maybe I wont miss that but it was all part of the day out to see my team...will not be getting a season ticket for the new ground because my work just does not make it viable for me to fork out for one because of the few matches I can attend so when will I get to see us play live at home(our new home)again I honestly cannot say.....so my last Saturday 3pm kick off could well be the last I see of our heroes in the flesh playing at home.

    Reports coming in emenike signed on loan subject to medical. If true have we made a typical West Ham cock up? Nigeria are not in the top 50 which could make a work permit hard to get. So I'm sure itl get rejected a day or two after the window closes. Also heard yilmaz is due at the club on Friday. So would that mean jelavic is off? Anyone know anything about emenike?

    Their there for the taking, lucky bleeders tonight what were Stoke thinking leaving Crouch on the field till the end ,?he could have done with an oxygen mask tonight ,Stoke were so unlucky ,if we dont beat them by two I'll go to the foot of our stairs ,hope Slzav was there to watch it ,they offer nothing in attack and are vulnerable at the back ,beware Lucas Demitri he'll take the legs out from under you
