Potter, Pigeons & Pacqueta!
Today's early kick off at the as yet commercially unnamed London Stadium between West Ham and visitors Chelsea WAS full of incident if NOT quality, in fact given the eye watering value of the players on display fans could have been forgiven for expecting a little more than they saw!
A 'squad' of Pigeons that constantly 'patrolled' the pitch, especially during the first half were more organised than EITHER side, this despite Hammers major summer spending spree and Chelsea's wholseale purchase of virtually any player with a pulse! The Pigeons swooped and rose gracefully seemingly aware of whenever and wherever there was a loose ball that needed dealing with, if only the players on BOTH sides had been able to take a leaf out of the Pigeon's book things might have turned out differently.
As it was what was an entertaining game never rose to the heights of the feathered visitors, it merely trundled along as two sides bereft of confidence slugged it out to achieve a 1-1 draw, the fact that there were THREE goals chalked off by VAR indicates the level of official interference that essentially ruined the game.
At the end of the game both managers seemed happy with a point although Graham Potter WAS incensed by Tomas Soucek's blatant hand ball from a Connor Gallagher shot towards the frenetic end to the game shortly after Nayef Aguerd was taken off because of a hamstring injury that will be full assessed tomorrow.
Lucas Pacqueta was taken off with a shoulder injury after 15 minutes as well just to add to the growing list of injuries which include Kurt Zouma and Maxwell Cornet, considering Chelsea had just splurged a fortune on new players theirs was the worst performance, but to the vast majority of fans watching, it was the Pigeons who ruled the roost! - Ed
