From 4th To 9th Without Playing A Game?

Conspiracy theorists who were around in 1986 might just be starting to feel a little bit of deja vu as Hammers begin their final run in of the Barclays Premier League season. For those too young to remember, or those who weren't even born then, here is a brief resume˘of what occurred.

Believe it or not West Ham were top of what was the old first division, ahead of both Liverpool and Everton, the season was already unique in that there were NO broadcasts of any top flight games due to an impasse in the negotiations between the FA and the Television companies over broadcasting rights and revenues.

As the season drew to a close there were many fixtures that were back logged due to the fact that there had been a very harsh winter, as a result of which, the schedule dictated West Ham had to play three games in six days, which was bad enough, but worse was to come in the form of a 'happy clapper' agreement between the Mersey side clubs that saw them draw when they needed to, in order to ensure Hammers were unable to retain their top slot.

Had football been televised that season, such rescheduling would have been brought in to question, but as the owners of Liverpool at the time, the Vernon family, were also incredibly well connected with the powers that be at the FA, the situation was glazed over without so much as a whimper from the Irons hierarchy at the time, rumour has it that certain shares changed hands between the Cairns family and the Vernons around then, members of staff at the Boleyn who questioned what had gone on were summarily dismissed.

Yes the current fixture list looks further distorted by need to play the outstanding FA Cup fixtures, and the International break. In May the boot will be firmly on the other foot as West Ham have to play a series of 'catch up' games in a very short period, like most mangers, David Moyes would have preferred to have the games evenly dispersed, but alas it is not to be.

Perhaps dropping out of the top four won't be a particularly bad event, it would enable Hammers to sneak under the radar again, and maybe teams will start to underestimate what they are going to be up against in the final dozen games of the season again.

There is nothing fans, players or staff can do to stop other results from happening, it is to be hoped by the time Hammers play their next game, which is at home to Leeds next Monday night, that they will be closer to 4th than 9th in the Barclays Premier League table. - Ed

Murphy Provides NEW Teamtalk

Hot on the heels of Jose Mourinho's 'inspired' pre-match comments that helped fire the Irons up ahead of their victory over Tottenham, a club who currently languish in NINTH place, busted flush Danny Murphy has just provided another 'incentivised' article which should do just the trick.

Having legitimate NUJ card holding contributors for over 20years, we at the Org do feel we have some right to comment on the 'quotes' of others, Murphy's BBC article was one of the most biased and inaccurate assessments of the Barclays Premier League as you could ever read, the fact that he is paid by the BBC out of your licence fees makes his comments even more unpalatable!

Here is a 'sample' of his particular brand of sour grapes..."City didn't even have to play that well to beat West Ham on Saturday. (City fan: Thought West Ham were excellent today. They look a completely different side to last season. Coufal at right back reminds me Zabaleta, hard as nails. Soucek very solid in midfield, Lingard looks like a man reborn & Antonio a handful too. One of our toughest games all season). The weekend's other results left them 12 points clear with 12 games to go and, realistically, now it is just a battle for who else will join them in the top four. The run-in is going to be fascinating, and it's wide open too. West Ham have been doing it for a few weeks already. The Hammers are another side that are very difficult to break down, as City found out on their way to beating them.(contradiction from opening line) Ultimately, though, I have a feeling David Moyes' side might fall a bit short, especially if they have to cope without Tomas Soucek or Declan Rice for any length of time. Leicester already seem to be picking up more injuries, which is a worry. Now it looks like they will be without Harvey Barnes for a while, and he will be a big miss. It is going to be tough for them."

He saved his 'pearler' for last though, " Even so, I think it will either be the Foxes or Liverpool who make fourth place. Both of them have got far more experience of these kind of situations, when the pressure is really on, than Everton or the Hammers do. What happened to Leicester last season, when they missed out on the Champions League places after losing to United on the final day, will stand them in good stead this time around."

So. there you go, David Moyes has been provided with another 'item' to post on the team's notice board. These pearls of wisdom really do affect the players, and in that respect Hammers fans should be grateful for them. Like many other Liverpool supporters, Murphy is clutching at straws while being completely in denial, they have turned from being the fans that everyone liked, in to the fans who are Chelsea in disguise! - Ed

Another One Gone Too Soon

Glenn Roeder sadly passed away today at the terribly young age of 65, he had been 'medically troubled' ever since having the need for surgery to deal with a brain tumour while he was the manager of West Ham. He returned to the dug out seven months later and endured torrid abuse from the supporters of some visiting fans, and unfortunately from some home fans as well, they know who they are!

Roeder led West Ham to a seventh place finish in his first term as manager, and should probably taken a bit more time off after his initial illness, but he was determined to return to what he loved, football. Some Hammers fans nicknamed him Glen Rodent, due to his fine dental attributes, but all recognised that he was a fighter.

Our condolences go out to his family, loved ones and friends, Glenn Roeder 1956-2021 R.I.P

Moyes To Win 'Poisoned' Chalice?

Given the club's unexepected and relatively successful Barclays Premier League season, there are rumours that David Moyes will surely be a lead candidate for manager of the year. This may be sweet music to the ears of Hammers fans, but there are a couple of key issues that are lurking in the back ground.

Primarily there are 12 games remaining, (H) Leeds, (A) Man U, (H) Arsenal, (A) Wolves, (H) Leicester, (A) Newcastle, (H) Chelsea, (A) Burnley, (H) Everton, (A) Brighton, (A) West Brom, (H) Southampton. Hammers play three teams out of four, who WILL be fighting relegation to the end, in their last games.

There are three games to play in a tricky spell between the 8th and 15th of May which may de-rail Hammers push for Europe, we studied an a UEA algorythm of the possible outcome for David Moyes and his team, the results threw up more questions than answers!

Essentially, according to the 'master computer', the Irons can finish anywhere between a dissappointing 8th, and a quite remarkable 3rd position, in this craziest of all Barclays Premier League seasons. The more you crunch the numbers, the more difficult it is to reach a firm and definable outcome.

Currently sitting in 4th position with 45 points and 26 games played, West Ham have a 'welcome' 8 day break before their next fixture at home to Leeds United on Monday the 8th of March, unfortunately by the time the fixture is played, some of Hammers rivals will have played THREE games more.

Irrespective of the final outcome, David Moyes has worked wonders at his 'club of redemption, and will look to build on the solid foundations that he has laid down next season, the usual reward for such an achievement would probably be the manager of the year accolade, however in the past the recipient has gone on to have a dreadful next season.

Moyes won't mind missing out on the award, especially if fate follows the recipient as it has done in the past, what he does want is to be 'left alone' to go quietly about his business, UNTIL it is imposssible NOT to mention it. - Ed

However, 90min.com claim United are determined to sign Rice from West Ham when the transfer window reopens.

And they’re said to be planning to offer Jesse Lingard, Matic and Phil Jones in part exchange in order to get the deal done.

It’s claimed that United think the trio will make up around £30million, while they’ll then offer a further £20m to land their man.

Hammers And The 49ers

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Fri, 26/02/2021 - 11:36

Since taking over West Ham, or rescuing the club as they like it to be known, David Sullivan and the rest of the Hammers board have sanctioned the signing of NO less than 49 strikers! The counter has been stuck at 49 with a zero increase since David Moyes 'took over' the handling of transfers, with the Irons manager unrelenting in the pursuit of players HE wants, as opposed to the usual over priced tosh that the club have signed under their own guidance in the past, there is genuine hope that the signing of number 50 might be truly significant, in that a 'striker fit for purpose' might actually arrive at the London Stadium!

Of course due to the Hammers 'stealth attack' on the Barclays Premier League, the club are receiving even more media attention than normal, the club were already the 11th most mentioned club in the World! (source asset media and PR web). It was inevitable that the Declan Rice story would 'run out of legs' at some time, so certain media sources have decided to dig up a little bit of destabilising intrigue, co-incidentally involving Denise DeBartolo York, the owner of THE 49ers who apprently is actively involved in preparing a bid to buy West Ham.

The 49ers were a huge team in America, winning the NFL Championships in 1995, 1990, 1989, 1985, 1982, but they have not hit the heights again since. Rumour has it that York's sons and daughter are 'bored' with the NFL, and have been casting envious gazes at the high yield for 'relatively' minimum investment opportunity presented by the purchase of a Barclays Premier League club.

Liverpool and Manchester United are both owned by Americans, and their success is seen as the template for a take over, borrowing lots of money at 'long' cheap rates to bank roll the incumbent manager, or another one of their choice, with the funds to redevelop his team. Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, due to the fragile World economy, interest rates had plummeted, as a consequence raising 'substantial' funds was seen as an easy option to move clubs forward, safe in the knowledge that the enormous TV revenue afforded to clubs in the top flight were more than enough to cover the interest payments AND ensure an incredibly healthy dividend for the new owners and their stake holders.

In reality, despite all the 'positive vibes' emerging from the London Stadium, it is unlikely that West Ham will make one of the champions league slots, but the Europa League is a definite possibility, and you can guarantee, the more the club progresses, the more the talk will be of a take over, as opposed to the old 'Declan Rice to Chelsea/Manchester' chestnut! - Ed

There Are Porkies & There Are Press Porkies!

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Fri, 26/02/2021 - 10:12

Having drunk the 'troubled West Ham' well dry, the media have consolidated their stance now on unsettling Hammers star Declan Rice by inventing claims that escalate on a daily basis from the outlandish, to straight out and out porkies, generated by mischievous writers who have had their collective noses put out of joint by the steady progress made by David Moyes's 'Boys of 21".

The combined efforts of the Press and Media have merely played in to the hands of the 'much thought about ' West Ham chairman David Sullivan, now he has been able to up the ante, via his 'pets', in the Rice saga, the valuation on England's future captain has doubled during this season to around £100 Million!

So the 'news' that Manchester United are willing to offer Nemanja Matic, Phil Jones and Jesse Lingard to West Ham in order to help them sign Declan Rice this summer has been greeted with derision by the vast majority of fans from West Ham AND Manchester United. Manc fans think that Rice is over priced, whereas Hammers fans have been quick to question on social media as to why the club would want to trade it's best and most valuable player, for two crocks and a player destined to head for the london Stadium regardless? (we'll leave the cut and paste of their comments for the 'lazy' sites that don't write their own articles, to compile)

The advantage for David Moyes while all the Rice speculation rumbles on, is that he is able to quietly go about his business of guiding the club as high as he can up the Barclays Premier League table, but also to subtly go about the recruitment of players that HE actually wants, as opposed to what the hierarchy try to hoist on to him.

There are Porkies, and there are Press Porkies, the difference is that former disappear, but the latter, especially regarding Rice, 'kinda lingers'. - Ed
