No Smoke Without Fire At The LS RE: Fans?

Firstly, before we get to the contentious issue as to whether the lack of fans at the incredibly ill-suited and unpopular London Stadium, has helped Hammers reach the lofty heights of a what is currently a genuine top four place in the Barclays Premier League, we have to mention that West Ham have accrued 21 points so far this season away from home, which included six victories!

At home, West Ham have a points tally of 24, second only to Manchester City in the entire league, but it is only three points better than the away form and one less match has been played at home, essentially the home and away form of the team is identical with regards to points returns, so to say that the team have been performing better at home as opposed to away is farcical.

The fact is, David Moyes's team have been incredibly consistent, as the points tally bears out, so all the pundits and observers, particularly those who should know better and are 'close' to the club, who thought they could whip up a bit of negativity with regards to the club and it's progress, might wish to look back to the situation just twelve months ago that the club found itself in, and ask themselves do the fans matter to the team? You bet they do! - Ed

Its goin to be very interesting to see what happens regarding Lingard when the season is over ,it very rare not to have an option to buy clause, imo they will recall him if only to have him sit in the stands again ,especially if he keeps goin the way he is ,either that or they will ask a kings ransom for him ,this deal was always to good to to be true .

What Planet Are Spurs Supporters On?

There's sour grapes, and then there are grapes that having been left too long become hallucinogenic, these must be the fruit being consumed by some Tottenham fans websites following their defeat at the hands of David Moyes's West Ham team last Sunday, a defaet that put them NINTH in the Barclays Premier League table, as opposed to West Ham in FOURTH position.

Here is a classic example of an 'in denial' comment from Spurs Web:

"On the balance of play, I thought we were actually the better team on Sunday as we created many more opportunities than they did. We now sit nine points behind West Ham with a game in hand and that is certainly not an insurmountable gap. If we play the same way we did in the second half at the London Stadium, I believe we still have a good chance of finishing ahead of the Hammers this season."

Having just seen a pink pig fly past our window just a moment ago, who is to doubt the wisdom of the Tottenham faithful? - Ed

Pundit: Several Irons Players NOT Premier League Standard

Chris Sutton, never known for being backwards when it to comes to being forward, is rather impressed with the way David Moyes and his West Ham team have set about their business this season. So deep has his endorsement been, that he has questioned why Arsenal and Tottenham were unable to bring players like Tomas Soucek to their clubs.

Sutton further outlined why he thinks Hammers have a 'good shot' at a European place, in fact he was only undecided as to whether the Irons would be in the Champions League or the Europa Cup. He did make a 'click bait' comment that severalofWest Ham's players were not Barclays Premier League quality, however he then said "these players aren't Premier League standard, they are the whole of Europe standard!

Damning praise indeed from Mr Talk a lot, but he does have a point, in that Rice, Soucek, Coufal, Cresswell, Antonio, Lingard, Fabianski, Dawson, Diop and others really are up to the scratch, and are only now getting the credit they deserve, of course the only down side is that the better the payers perform, the more likely they are to be called up for international duty, and we know how that can turn out, don't we? - Ed

Declan(P)Rice!

Having finally woken up to the fact that those 'Cock'er'ney' upstarts can actually play good football and beat their supposed 'superiors', the Press have resorted back to their old "who is the latest bidder for Declan Rice?" chesnut, only the price has doubled now.

Firstly, there have been absolutely NO offers for Rice from ANYONE, secondly he doesn't look like a young man who is overly influenced by 'bling', of course he knows his value has rocketed, he would be pretty dumb if he didn't, but he has plenty of time and a whole career ahead of him.

Essentially Rice has easily enough time to become a Hammers legend AND eventually leave for a 'Real Madrid' type of club should he so wish. The caveat about retaining Rice has always been who can offer him the lure of Champions League football, up until this craziest of seasons, the answer would have to have been elsewhere away from West Ham. However if things click and the Irons make even the Europa League, it may well be enough to retain Rice's services for another season and quite possibly beyond, so long as David Moyes remains manager and is 'supported' by the board.

Unfortunately, and this is the online reporters equivalent of the 'commentators curse', having eulogised about the 'silence of the Sully' yesterday, today he has made it known through his Jim 'Brown Nose' White mouthpiece at Talk Sport that the club wouldn't entertain offers below £80-100 Million for the services of the World Class player that Rice is.

What a pity, Sully's silence did seem a bit too good to be true, but in a way you cannot blame him, he must be imploding with the desire to say "look at me, MY football club is finally achieving the recognition I and it deserve!", and in a way he would be correct, however many feel that the club is where it is by default, rather than design, and that unfortunately, you can take the man out the blame, but not the blame out of the man! - Ed

The 'Dirty' Dozen* Remaining

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Tue, 23/02/2021 - 12:18

Hammers 'stealth attack' for one of the coveted Champions League spots has had some unforeseen consequences, for example it is extremely unusual at this time of the season for any of the West Ham fan sites, or media outlets, to be discussing upcoming fixtures with anything other than the fear of relegation as the main topic of discussion, but here is the list of the Irons remaining fixtures, the 'dirty dozen*' despite there being thirteen games remaining. * Film buffs will probably know that the book the dirty dozen was based on, was called the Filthy Thirteen, but Dirty Dozen sounds better.

Saturday 27th February Premier League Manchester City 12:30 West Ham United

Monday 8th March Premier League West Ham United 20:00 Leeds United
Saturday 13th March Premier League Manchester United 15:00 West Ham United
Sunday 21st March Premier League West Ham United 15:00 Arsenal

Saturday 3rd April Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers 15:00 West Ham United
Saturday 10th April Premier League West Ham United 15:00 Leicester City
Saturday 17th April Premier League Newcastle United 15:00 West Ham United
Saturday 24th April Premier League West Ham United 15:00 Chelsea

Saturday 1st May Premier League Burnley 15:00 West Ham United
Saturday 8th May Premier League West Ham United 15:00 Everton
Tuesday 11th May Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion 19:45 West Ham United
Saturday 15th May Premier League West Bromwich Albion 15:00 West Ham United
Sunday 23rd May Premier League West Ham United 16:00 Southampton

Another consequence is the conspicuousness of the silence emerging from the Hammers hierarchy, finally they may have something to 'crow' about, but instead Nada, not a peep, apart from when David Gold managed to break free from his handlers and tweet an I told you so message. That aside, the silence of Sullivan has been shattering! Is it perhaps that the majority share holder feels somehow unable to take the credit for David Moyes's achievements since his return to the club because it was he who 'let go' of Moyes in preference to the 'exotic' lure of Manuel Pellegrini?

The fact that Sullivan et tout bankrolled the erstwhile Chilean to such an extent is the reason why Moyes's achievements are even more admirable, consequently trying to take too much credit would make Sullivan look immensely hypocritical, something the ageing billionaire doesn't seem to want to be associated with.

We get the impression that Sullivan has FINALLY learned his lesson, keep schtum and watch the rest of the footballing fraternity eat humble pie, just like many West Ham fans are having to do, 'Umble pie never tasted so good! - Ed

Hammers Will Get A Taste Of Europe On Saturday

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Mon, 22/02/2021 - 23:20

The understandable euphoria among fans that has accompanied Hammers rise up the Barclays Premier League table has many dreaming of the possibility of European football, and so they should. In this season of all strange seasons there is definitely a 'possibility' of reaching that much sought after next level.

European competition does however have a caveat, a wafer thin squad like West Ham currently have wouldn't last a minute up against some of Europe's best teams, against the lesser ones would be a different story. The point is Hammers have punched above their weight for much of the season, and to continue on the same lines will be difficult but not impossible.

David Moyes and his team will get their first 'taste of Europe' sooner than the beginning of the new season, because on Saturday they travel to the Etyhad to take on the only team with a better win ratio than them since the beginning of the year, Manchester City! Cue dun, dun, dun Music!

Having overcome their early season 'blip', City have brushed all aside that they have played, and will be seeing West Ham as another potential 'victim'. West Ham will NOT capitulate as they would have done in the past, however that doesn't mean there is much hope of a positive result, but the team will undoubtably give it a go.

David Moyes will adopt a pragmatic, some will say loser, attitude to the game, he won't want his team to be embarrassed, while at the same time of being mindul of the consequences of trying to play City at their own game.

Whatever happens, Declan Rice and the rest of the team will gain valuable experience, and have a chance to measure themselves against this year's champions elect. - Ed
