Arnie Knee Issue Resolved

Hammer's Talisman Marko Arnoutovic will be available for the home game against Chelsea this coming Sunday although he may be on the bench initially, there had been fears that the pain Arnoutovic felt behind his knee could be serious but scans have revealed a mild inflamation as opposed to a core issue, this is good news indeed because whenever Arnie is not playing the team look bereft of any cutting edge, it is notable how poor performances have been without his services.

With Arnoutovic as the outlet the rest of the team can play the high line so beloved by manager Mauel Pellegrini, with Felipe Anderson finally getting to know the nature of the Barclays Premier League it becomes more possible to implement the managers ideas and playing philosophy.

Pellegrini may well be tempted to start the same eleven as he did away to Everton, obviously the 3-1 victory helped but it was more balanced team, Yarmolenko was a revelation and his presence in the starting line up takes the pressure of Arnoutovic while at the same time presenting opposition defenders with a real headache. Yarmo's inclusion would keep Robert Snodgrass on the bench.

Mark Noble may not have much left in his tank, but what he lacks in speed he makes up for with passion, he and Pablo Zabaleta are the important wise heads needed to galvanise this newly assembled team, they may well not be main stays for long, but for now there experience is essential.

Chelsea on Sunday appears to be a daunting prospect, but then again Everton away given the circumstances was an equally difficult game to get something out of, if the players give their all the crowd will get behind them and who knows what could happen. Last season a rousing 1-0 home win against Chelsea helped kick start the great escape, no one expects much, so maybe the players will be able to play without fear, if they can then they will finally look like the team they were supposed to be from the beginning of the season! - Ed

No Surprise As Jack Had Been Who He Never Was!

It was perhaps inevitable sooner rather than later, and in this case much sooner, that having signed a lucrative THREE year deal to join West Ham Jack Wilshere would pick up an ankle injury that has had to be operated on. The injury will keep the 26 year old midfielder out of action for between 6 - 12 weeks, although it was a relatively minor ankle surgery, Wilshere's recovery up to match fitness could take considerably longer..

Wilshere completed West Ham's first three games but was taken off against Wolves and missed Sunday's win at Everton. "We envisage he will only need a relatively short period of rest and will then start his rehabilitation," said head of medical Richard Collinge. The surgeon was satisfied with the procedure and said all went as planned, Jack is focused and determined to get back training and playing as soon as possible," Collinge added. Sounds familiar?

'Focused and determined to get back training and playing as soon as possible', has disturbing 'Carrollesqe' connotations bearing in mind 'wheelchair's' legendary injury history, furthermore given last Sunday's performance he is unlikely to 'hobble' back into the first team which seems to have found the correct balance without him. We are not suggesting that signing Wilshere was a complete waste of money, merely that he is a rather expensive option for a player who at best will only play half the season, IF the manager chooses him ahead of all those players who are fit and capable.

Strength in depth is a neccessity for aspiring Barclays Premier League clubs, so having Wilshere as an option is useful, but only so if he doesn't emulate Andy Carroll and become a permanent fixture in the medical team's room. As we have mentioned already, the team looked much more balance without Jack, sometimes things just fall into place.

The best thing the club can do in our opinion is to get Carroll and Wilshere fit, which is no mean task in itself, and then flog them off along with a couple of others during the January window, 'sick notes are not for turning!' - Ed

Pellegrini-Perez-Paranoia-Just Another Week At West Ham

Buoyant from a much needed away win against 'serial offenders' Everton, under fire Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini was forced to divert from his attacking concept post match eulogy in order to 'deal' with the 'Sky rumoured' spat that he was supposed to have had with Lucas Perez. The Spanish striker, who started the game on the bench had looked like he was going to replace the injured Marko Arnautovic, but Pellegrini chose Michail Antonio instead, 30 year old Perez said that it was "quicker" for Antonio to play as he was ready and that it was totally "false information" that he had thrown a 'hissy fit' and the implication that he refused to play in West Ham's 3-1 win at Everton on Sunday was completely misleading.

"I have never ever refused to warm up in my whole career, let alone play a match," he tweeted. Perez continued that West Ham's substitutes take it in turns to do warm-up routines of three to five minutes during a game, and that he had not been warming up when Arnautovic got injured."In the moment Marko got injured, I was on the bench after warming up," he added. "The coach called me to go out and play however, having realised that it was faster to substitute Antonio who at that moment was warming up, he changed his decision."

Perez was pictured talking to his club's goalkeeping coach moments after Antonio entered the game in the 64th minute, and the discussion looked more than a little heated. The striker said: "The images that have been misinterpreted correspond to a talk with the goalkeeper's coach, in which I never refused to warm up and explained what happened." This 'storm in a teacup' clearly illustrates how absolutely under the microscope Hammers are, whether it is the London Stadium shennanigans or a relentless media driven desire to see the club fail miserably, there definitely appears to be an agenda, it is not paranoia, honestly not!

Pellegrini said after the game that he did not use Perez because "Antonio was already ready, so he played", the two goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and an Arnautovic strike certainly knocked the stuffing out of the home team, who despite clawing a goal back through £45 Million signing from Swansea Gylfi Sigurdsson, rarely looked as if they were going to win the game.

So it proved, in the second half when most fans expected Everton to launch relentless raids, very little happened and Marko Arnoutovic, abley assisted by Pedro Obiang tucked home Hammers third to rub salt in to the Toffees wounds. Pellegrini stuck to his guns and got the result he always knew would happen, the question is now how much will the awful start, prior to Sunday's excellent result, impact on the aspirations of the club's season, the manager has a game plan, it is up to the players to execute that plan. - Ed

Indeed that was the text message reply I got for 'er indoors on the way back from Goodison last night, to say our car journey home was pleasant would be an understatement but the Jockneys were there (well 3 of us anyway).
What for me was the best part of the game was not that we won but the manner in which we won.
As already mentioned in another post Rice was excellent and he was ably assisted by Noble and Obiang who both had excellent matches. Nobes did hi a few stray passes but his interception which led to the 2nd goal was about quick thinking and determination (though thank goodness the ref played advantage instead of giving us the free kick he wanted). Obiang was instrumental in goal no.3 and Rice did a great job breaking up play and he read the game well, the mid 3 to be fair covered for one another and as so often happens Noble was the spare go player in effect an outlet. Some of the passing was superb and rather than Everton being poor I thought we shut them down well, chased and harried. Masuaku was linking well with Anderson and Fabs obviously inspires confidence in his defenders. Balbuena kept it simple and stuck to his task and any time he played the ball out he slipped back into position. Diop looked assured and Zabs read so many situations well I thought he too was outstanding.
Our front players in particular Arnie and Andriy looked to have forged an understanding and complimented one another as the opening goal showed. But overall slick passing, good movement and closing down were all on display even the subs played their part Sanchez though needs to concentrate and adapt to the pace of the game! Snodgrass and Antonio saw the match out well and slotted in perfectly. To show how well West Ham did in the closing stages Everton got plenty of bodies behind the ball which smacked of damage limitation.
Great day out, great result and a very Happy Hammer!

Toffees Unstuck As Pellegrini Celebrates Birthday 3-1 Win

Crisis, what crisis? Manuel Pellegrini looked like the cat that got the cream as he oversaw his team's 3-1 victory at Goodison Park away to Everton, although we used a feline reference, Manuel Pellegrini is much more reptilian, his eyes are very similar to those of Slaven Billic's, and wierdly their reptilian personna extends to their other facial features, at any time during an interview one expects an unsuspecting fly to be quickly consumed by a lighting 'tongue action', a certain Mr Harry would have a field day with that one!

The dark flags have been removed from Org headquarters as for the first time in what seems like a thousand years Monday morning will not be spent avoiding the 'Press'. Was it ever meant to be any other way? Interestingly in his post match 'El Pel' when asked if he had been worried about such a bad start to the season calmy mentioned that 'his' players had performed to a level that both he and they knew that they could perform at, he also dismissed whether it was a special day because it was his 65th birthday preferring to talk about how 'his' team had performed. Encouragingly Hammers played with a mixture of grit and guille and more than a bit of flair as they outplayed an albeit under strength and somewhat inexperienced side.

Whichever way viewed, the victory against what has always been a 'bogey' team for West Ham United, meant much more than the three urgently needed points that saw the club move out of the relegation zone, the result was much more a damning endightment of Pellegini's Tora Tora Tora approach, arrogant or just a self believer, his mantra only needs the players to embrace it before it can work.

Blind faith or beligerant obduration, Hammers are Paying Pellegrini just shy of £135,000 per week so he should be good! That said the media circus that descended on crisis club West Ham who had previously named them 'on the move' West Ham will have to cede to wisdom. Pellegrini saw his now match fit Yarmolenko link up perfectly with Arnoutovic, Anderson and Obiang in what was a truly moblie forward line, 'Elbows' unselfish play led to the first of Yalmalenko's brace following an electric counter, England number one keeper Jordan Pickford provided the second with a woeful clearance that ended up at 'Yar mo be there's ' feet as he tormented the Toffees defence before curling in a beautiful shot.

Inevitably the home side equalised just before half time with a well worked goal which was a bit unfair on the visitors given their work rate, all of Hammers defence performed well with Diop and Rice impressing and hopefully becoming a pairing for many years to come. Given the visitor's frailty of recent games it was presumed that the home side would launch an all out attack during the scond half, but it was not to be, and when Arnoutovic tucked home the third Hammers goal it was nothing more than they deserved, and huff and puff as the Toffees did, in the end they were not good enough to overcome a West Ham team that finally looked like it had discovered itself.

Blinding result, happy days, dream the dream, now count the sheep! per ardua ad astra - Ed
