West Ham United statement: Boxing Day fixtures
WHUFC.com

Contrary to reports, West Ham United have not requested that the Club’s
Boxing Day Premier League fixture be played away from London Stadium. A West
Ham United spokesperson said: “There is categorically no agreement in place
that means West Ham United have to play Boxing Day fixtures away from home.
“It is not uncommon for emergency services or other stakeholders to make
requests to the Premier League to avoid certain fixture dates. “However,
these requests will not always be granted by the Premier League and we fully
expect to play at London Stadium on Boxing Day in future seasons.”

West Ham requested that the Premier League give them an away fixture on Boxing Day because Stratford station could not cope with the combined effect of fans attending a game at the former Olympic Stadium and crowds for the post-Christmas sales at Westfield shopping centre.

It is the latest disadvantage associated with West Ham’s move from Upton Park to the London Stadium last year and it is a problem that is likely to continue with Dec 26 a key trading day for Westfield Stratford. This year the struggling club have been given an away fixture at Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium. When they asked for the same provision last season, their first in the former Olympic Stadium, West Ham supporters were given a trip to Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium, 230 miles away from the club’s new home.

The club have said that there will be Boxing Day home games at the London Stadium in the future. In a statement today a spokesman for West Ham said there was “categorically no agreement in place that means West Ham United have to play Boxing Day fixtures away from home.”

In the past, the Westfield Stratford mall has opened at 8am on the Boxing Day bank holiday and although football fans arriving at the Stratford station are filtered around the shopping centre and across the bridge to the stadium it is not feasible to accommodate sale shoppers and fans. The Premier League has confirmed to Telegraph Sport that West Ham have requested special dispensation to play away on Boxing Day.

A West Ham spokesman said: “It is not uncommon for emergency services or other stakeholders to make requests to the Premier League to avoid certain fixture dates, however these requests will not always be granted by the Premier League and we fully expect to play at London Stadium on Boxing Day in future seasons."

Those requests are factored into the Premier League fixture generator software, which usually relates to planned shut-downs of transport networks or competing major events that would make a home fixture difficult. There are also separate agreements with different police forces including one that dictates the two Manchester clubs do not play at home on the same day.

West Ham’s restriction on home games on Boxing Day is likely to further anger supporters who have criticised the poor planning behind the club’s move to their new stadium last year. At the start of this season they began with three consecutive away games, all of which ended in defeat, because the stadium needed time to be converted back to use for football after the athletics World Championships

They began their first season in the new stadium with large numbers of fans having to be reassigned their seats because fights broke out between those wishing to stand and sing, and families whose view of the action was blocked. There was originally no police radio system installed in the stadium which meant that the Metropolitan Police would at first not station officers in the ground unless there was an emergency.

West Ham are tenants in the former Olympic Stadium which is jointly owned by Newham Council and the London Legacy Development Organisation via the company E20 Stadium which is understood to be in financial difficulties.

Older West Ham United F.C. fans invited to a Q&A with Sir Trevor Brooking

Friends of the Elderly and West Ham Foundation are inviting West Ham football fans aged 65 and over to join them for a special Q&A event with Hammers legend Sir Trevor Brooking.

The free event, which will take place at the East Ham Working Men’s Club on Wednesday 29 November, will also include a light lunch. Guests will be invited to submit their questions for the football star and will have the opportunity to meet Sir Brooking himself on the day.

Date: Wednesday 29 November 2017
Time: 12pm-3pm
Venue: East Ham Working Men's Club, 2 Boleyn Road, London, E6 1QE

Joining in the fun will be other fans and people connected to the club over the last 50 year, giving guests the opportunity to meet like-minded fans and sign up for a fantastic, five-week Football Friends programme called Any Old Irons.

Run in partnership with the West Ham United Foundation and the Premier League (PL) with the support of the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA), the Any Old Irons initiative gives participants the opportunity to connect with other fans and locals in their community, bringing them together for fun and friendship. During the programme, there will be the opportunity to share stories about the club, hear guest speakers, enjoy a stadium tour and learn digital skills to help stay connected online.

One Football Friends participant, West Ham fan Alf aged 75, said: “I lost my wife two years ago, unfortunately, and one good thing about this is that it has got me out to meet different people.” The programme has been hugely successful amongst older West Ham fans who would otherwise experience loneliness and isolation.

If you need help with transport, please let the charity know at the time of booking. Places at the event are limited and will be allocated on a first-reserved basis, so book ASAP to avoid disappointment.

To book a place or for more information, please contact Friends of the Elderly on 0330 332 1110 or hello@fote.org.uk

Sydney Olympic Stadium to be KNOCKED DOWN

Just sayin'. A new, RECTANGULAR stadium is going to be built on the site that will have NO ATHLETICS TRACK. It will have greater capacity, but with steeper rise so that fans are all closer to the action. This is the right move. The lesson to be learned: WHO NEEDS A "LEGACY" STADIUM? It will always be a white elephant.

David Moyes Has Confirmed Javier Hernandez Out For Two Weeks

According to reports, West Ham United boss David Moyes has confirmed Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez could be out of action for at least two weeks with a hamstring strain and warned the Hammers record signing Marko Arnautovic to start pulling his weight.

Moyes speaking at a news conference before his first less than inspiring game in charge of the Hammers at the Vicarage Road, Moyes said: "I think everyone knows he [Chicharito] has got a hamstring injury. It could take a week, it could take two weeks."

The Scottish boss has told Hernandez he will be given the chance to establish himself in his West Ham attack but warned the former Manchester United attacker he would not be allowed special treatment, Hernandez and Moyes have 'previous' from when Moyes took over from Sir Alex Ferguson to manage Manchester United.

Hernandez was part of Moyes’ Manchester United squad during the 2013-14 season but the 29-year-old started just five epl fixtures over the course of the 54-year-old's reign at Old Trafford. Moyes, who coached Everton before his move to Manchester United in 2013 also told Arnautovic, the £24 million signing from Stoke, that he needed to be "a team player." "I can only go on what people have told me and they didn't think he has come up to the standard he set at Stoke City," the manager said. "I watched him a lot at Stoke. I thought he looked like the sort of player you would never be keen to play against, if you're a right-back, because of his power and strength and what he can do. "But he also has to be a team player. The clips I have seen, at times, he has not looked a team player. "He would not be the only one I would say that about. The other players also have to do the work for the team if they want to be part of it."

Following the dismal display against Watford, Moyes questioned the attitude and commitment of some of his 'senior' players having experienced their performances, it will be interesting to see who makes the starting line up for Moyes' baptism of fire at the negative cauldron that the London Stadium has become. - Ed

Moyes..all talk and no product?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 22/11/2017 - 08:15

moyes has been talking himself up a lot since he arrived. all this 'i don't want to talk about everton' and yet constantly talking about everton….its a bit like mourinho saying he doesnt talk about injuries and then going on and on about injuries. kinda like someone who says 'no offence' and then goes on to offend. anyway, looking at the set up against watford i can see better organisation defensively. the back 4 looked better imo than anything under bilic this season. but we mustered nothing in terms of attack. carroll was up there on his own and the midfield 5 was basically there to do an allardyce. my concern is that moyes is so hellbent on sorting out the defence and making us 'hard to beat' that we will continue to offer nothing going forward. even at 2 down he didnt want to put two up front. I'm beginning to think that he may have been talking the talk but that he's past it now and even his 'everton' system is outdated. the only sad consolation if he fails will be to teach the board a lesson. id say relegation might be a good thing i.e. the usual clear out and rebuild but we've not got a stadium to fall back on this time and also we been there done that and ended up worse. the only way this club will get sorted imo is if the board go and someone takes over like at newcastle or even someone with more sense and understanding on how to run a club. reading allardyce (who himself carries a whiff of dodgy dealings with him) and how he says Sully lets his son play with the club as if its his toy, making stupid remarks online and getting involved in personal attacks on players….its just embarrassing. when you look at them in the stands, looking down on the 'peasants' who pay to watch the drivel served up each week and the final whistle goes and off they go back to the limo for 5 start dining and home to the mansion….they just look deluded. why not give the fans something? why not appoint Dyche who i think we may have got since everton don't want him, or bring in someone who's style suits the club more….Betty is right, Moyes and his brand of football is not going to change….those who pay are going to suffer this 'hard to beat', one up front stuff till the end of the season now and even then we will probably go down because moyes has been there and done that with sunderland. i had some slight optimism, just that maybe moyes with his new talk and positivity would offer a lot more in sense of all round team play. yes its early, but can anyone see his style morphing into something more than get it wide and put it into the box?

Just wondering if this club goes down the pooper just how are those three going to square it ,I can't think of another senourio like this ,They sell one of the best loved grounds in the premiership and turn it into a car park and rent a hideous athletics stadium ,their incompident management of West ham is obvious.
Please don't interpret this post as any sort of insightment but with the amount of bad feeling out there and the enormity of whats happening i know one thing i wouldn't be hanging around
