Stoke what to do

So after a couple of fine displays by us against two of our local rivals what are we going to do against stoke? certainly it is as big a game as the last two maybe even more so as they are down and around us...for sure we cannot afford to lose this game but i wonder how much those last games have taken out of the players....with not to much depth to play with i do think moyes needs to tweak the side a little purely on the fitness side not anything to do with player performances...i am pretty sure the shape will stay the same and with the stoke side being under a lot of pressure themselves getting the right personnel out on the pitch is going to be essential for us to get the win we are capable of....Elbows played well the last couple of matches but you saw last night for a few seconds he wanted to make something out of nothing with the young arsenal defender fortunately he snapped out of it quickly but he is going to have to be careful going up against his old side and no doubt the home crowd winding him up and moyes is going to have to be all over that and get home to him the best way to react is to play the game and win...not sure if moyes would start chicarito from the start as i doubt he will track back like Antonio and elbows have been doing in the last few matches and carroll is certainly not one to be starting....it will be interesting to see how moyes is going to go about this game but going back just a few weeks i think we are all a lot more optomistic now.

Will Moyes Recall Oxford From Borussia Mönchengladbach?

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Wed, 13/12/2017 - 12:28

Reece Oxford started his FIRST match for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga, the West Ham starlet went on loan to the German club for twelve months with the possibility of a further twelve months if all parties agreed. The idea was to give Oxford plenty of competitive football but away from the glare of the UK, and despite the coach at Borussia saying how pleased they are with the England U-19 player even intimating that they would like the loan to be turned into a permanent deal, the fact is that the young Hammer is not getting any game time!

While the exact terms of the loan deal are not in the public domain it should be assumed that there must be some form of re-call available, otherwise why send one of your best prospects, in fact some say West Ham's best prospect for the future, off to a club that doesn't play him but appear to want to 'nick him' on the cheap? While Reece is bench warming other young Hammers are racing past him in their development, players like Tony Martinez, Domingo Quina and Declan Rice have already found themselves in contention for a starting berth, additionally fringe players like 'King' Authur Masuaku have been selected recently.

With virtually a game every three days for the next month, a schedule that began with the inspired victory over Chelsea and continues with tonight's game against more London rivals Arsenal, David Moyes is going to need all the players at his disposal and a couple more as he has hinted at, including Arsenal's soon to be out of contract England international Jack Wilshere. With the current valuation of in demand players going through the roof how much could Reece Oxford be worth?

It should be remembered that West Ham United shot themselves in both feet during last January's transfer window by splashing out in excess of £20 Million and combined wages of over £150,000 per week to bring in the incredibly unfit Robert Snodgrass and the ageing Jose Fonte, both on three year deals! Co-owner David Sullivan has already publicly stated that he regrets doing the deals, by doing so he has managed to totally alienate the injured Fonte and further disenfranchised Snodgrass who has already made a comprehensive job of burning his West Ham bridge by his public criticism of the club.

When David Moyes looks at who is available, and there has been plenty of speculation with regards to which positions that he thinks need strengthening, surely he must be looking to the availability of Oxford? The loan deal that took him to Germany can't possibly be so one sided that Hammers' can't recall their player given that he has hardly played at all. The only tangible reason for not recalling him IS his lack of game time at Borussia Mönchengladbach, other than that Reece Oxford could really help make up the numbers while also getting his career back on track.

Unlike the affable but sometimes very confusing Slaven Billic, David Moyes has a track record for bringing young players through the ranks and it is to be hoped that Reece Oxford will be joining them sooner rather than later, his main claim to fame being for the incredible performance that he put in against tonight's opponents two and a half years ago! - Ed

Hammer Time As Blue Flag Inserted In Opposition's Proverbial

Now the dust has settled a little following West Ham United's vital victory over London rivals and last season's champions Chelsea, fans are beginning to believe in David Moyes' appointment as manager and in his ability to guide the club to Premier League safety. Essentially he and his staff have taken their players back to basics in order to give themselves the belief they lost when things began to unravel following the acrimonious departure of one time talisman Dimitri Payet to Marseille, ever since he left players who had excelled regressed and others just couldn't be bothered for various on and off field reasons.

It is easy to say that Slaven Billic's regime was too friendly etc or blah blah as he used to like saying, but no one seemed to care when West Ham were turning over all of the top teams and only narrowly missed qualifying for the Champions League. What else changed apart from Payet leaving? Prior to his departure the squad had already lost Alex Song, Carl Jenkinson and Victor Moses from the original 'Boleyn Boys' of Slav's era, in addition the manager was becoming a 'grown up father' with his new wife and young family which more than likely took his edge away, not to mention the dreadful transfer window preceding the move from the much loved Boleyn to the empty carcass that was the initial London Stadium.

The players who have stood up and been counted by their new manager are already reaping the reward by being selected on merit and not just reputation or wage packet, not playing expensive signings and players on big money is not always an easy option but Moyes seems to have got his point across to all those concerned at the club. The victory over Chelsea was vindication for Moyes' pragmatic approach and willingness to back up his judgment with his decisions, however politically or professionally difficult they may be. His hard work ethos was very noticeable in the extra effort and discipline shown by the players against a Chelsea side who were no mugs and who had five forwards on by the end of the match and most certainly couldn't plant their blue flag!

'King' Authur Masuaku was named man of the match for his scintillating display on the left, but Adrian San Miguel set the tone for the afternoon, as soon as his name was announced the crowd were on his side, every exaggerated save he made was received with mass applause and he bellowed at his team to play further up the pitch from the beginning of the match until it's end. Having the crowd on board set the tone for another great atmosphere, Moyes must know that a crowd favourite lifts everyone, we could only recall Adrian receiving a couple of back passes such was his emphasis on keeping the ball moving.

All the players put in a shift, 'Elbow's ' took his goal brilliantly, Zabaleta raced around like an under 21 and credit where it's due to much maligned Mark Noble, the Hammer's captain worked his socks off but more importantly kept his discipline, as was highlighted by M.O.T.D, he must have been drilled by Pearce and Co to not stray much past the half way line. In fact the only really poor pass Noble made was on one of the rare occasions when he did venture forward, fortunately Zabaleta was able to break Chelsea's interception down. Although most of Noble's work was in the centre of the pitch he was probably in need of an ice bath after the match, which does raise the question of whether he will be selected for the Arsenal game on Wednesday night or will it be a match too far for his weary legs?

The games are coming up thick and fast, so injuries and fatigue will be an issue for what is a relatively thin West Ham squad, most players will know where they stand with their boss by the time the transfer window opens where upon several departures have apparently been sanctioned if the money or terms are decent.

The happy crowd at the London Stadium sang with great conviction throughout the match that left the visiting Chelsea supporters in no doubt as to where they could stick their blue flag- Ed

Giroud has just asked to go on loan snap their arm off and get Wiltshire too, put your hand in your pocket and keep us up. Reckon you ain't done well enough, sell carrol and get somebody whos up for the fight. Giroud has already said he wanted to stay in London when we approached him in the Summer so don't mess about or you will lose him.

The green shoots of recovery, or at least some positivity

After the fall out of yesterday's victory it's hard not to get carried away, so I'm trying not to be. Firstly well done the players, the effort will be greatly appreciate by the fans. it's what we need to get behind you, not you just telling us! You got it because you deserved it. For me I didn't get to see it but followed it on radio five, I must say it gave me a real blast from the past. For the first 20 mins I was driving but stayed glued to the radio parked in a car park for another hour and a half! It was that enthralling. I must say Moyes is starting to impress me. He has only been here a few games but has already identified what bilic didn't in 2 years. He has got us fitter, we look better organised and it's great to see their is actually a game plan that includes some well thought out substitutions. Ok we all said we needed that. What he has also done is made some big decisions that might become a bit inspired. Firstly it took Hardly any time for him to decide he wanted masaku AND cresswell playing down the left. (Some on here suggested it) he for the moment anyway has decided to play cresswell at left centre back in a 3! That came a bit left field for me! He has also preferred big mick up top ATM maybe for his strength and ability to relieve pressure by gaining ground. (Maybe we need that style of forward and maybe he will stick with mick at least to the end of the season). And finally he was happy to make the big call of dropping hart. He also didn't automatically didn't play Carroll. He has now set a standard to his players it's his way! Stick to your guns David if we can get 3 points above relegation we will go from strength to strength.
