Now I know the performance was poor yesterday especially the penetration and attacking play as Bilic stated in his post-match interview, but he doesn't deserve this negativity, for crying out loud he has only been in the job five minutes. He will come good ,all the teams he has managed have his trademark stamped on them, attacking play and goals ,he will get it right.I think fans in the main, expected a similar team selection to what Bilic put out, and he probably felt, as we all did, that there was enough quality in that side to finish the opposition off.But how wrong we were.He isn't going to make that mistake again especially with better opposition ahead.Bilic is still assessing the players ,especially the forwards to see whether they have what it takes to unlock packed defences,I'm not convinced ,I don't think he is either, but we will have to wait and see on that one.But I think the likes of Valencia,Sakho,Carroll, are your definites ,one more quality signing and a quality loan would put our minds at rest. The crossing yesterday was another area that was concerning,it was just hit and hope,no body was targeted,so many crosses wasted.Jarvis and Amalfitano, have quality there is no doubt but ,neither are floating my boat at the moment, but doesn't help matters playing in a side with less quality then they are used to.I'm sure even Payet's performance level would have suffered in that game.Hernandez,Mirallas,Halilvic,Milan Badelj ,Moussa Sow of Fenerbache, but the African Cup of Nations, January time, may be a big turn off signing more African players

Take a risk with Charlie

Ever growing hints that West Ham is Austin's preferred choice. Although the club seem to think that £15m is too high and would not be willing to pay more than £10m, I think the extra £5m would be well worth the risk given the value of each goal, particularly given what the coming season means and our perennial struggle to find goals. God forbid Sakho gets injured - we got an indication last night where that would leave us. Throw a couple of make-shifts in too.

Hernandez or Austin?

The end of last season, and our European venture so far, have definitely confirmed that our missing piece fo the jigsaw is a striker of proven quality. Despite all new signings, up front we are simply the same as last season without Carlton Cole (unless you count Maiga coming back, which I don't). I'm also a bit nervous that all of our new signings are not proven in the Premiership. Up front, I'd now like to see a proven goalscorer in the Premiership join us. As the start of the season is fast approaching, that seems to be coming down to two people, Austin or Hernandez. In all honesty, I'll be happy with either as I think they are both just the sort of player that we need. What would be your preference?

Deja Vu?

Last nights performance was pretty abysmal from what I saw of it. It looked very much like where we left off from last year. The good thing I hope is that Bilic now realizes how bad some of the players are and we will ship them out soon. Hopefully he will have some notion who he wants to play regularly and what system he can utilize although he didn't change much last night. So not a very auspicious start to far. We need a winger and another striker.

Naive Hammers Nearly Made To Pay!

Despite losing 1-0 on the night, West Ham United reached the next round of the Europa League qualifiers where they will meet Astra Giurgiu courtesy of a 5-3 penalty shoot out against plucky FC Birkirkara, but they were made to pay. James Tomkins became the latest West Ham player to be red carded as the wheels nearly came of the club's 'European adventure' before it had started properly. Quite what Tomkins thought he was doing only he knows, but it plain to see that Hammer's are totally naive when it comes to European competition. Having been made to look like mugs in the previous round, and picking up a red card, it would have been assumed that lessons were going to be learned, apparently not! One 'lesson' that was plainly obvious was that Kevin Nolan needs to be shipped out and fast, the club need to move on, even if it means supplementing his wages at another club. Nolan has lost his legs, he was never that fast but has an agile brain that ensured he could be in the right place a lot of the time, unfortunately now that he has lost the yard that he never had in the first place, Nolan has become a snarling, frustrated and essentially inefficient player. He has had his day, four years in to his five year contract it is obvious why Newcastle were not prepared to offer him the five year deal he craved. He was a good player initially, and a great servant, but things have to move on, and also, Mark Noble needs to look in the mirror, at the same time as looking over his shoulder, better players are treading on his heels! -Ed

Barcelona believe he is too green to promote to the 'A' team, and are prepared to put him out on loan with an option to buy.

It's said that Betis are interested, but an article I have seen in Spanish says that the Real Betis coach has ruled out getting him. Top TOP prospect if Bilic could get him!!!
