Slaven Bilic has signed a three year deal to become West Ham United's 15th manager, replacing the unpopular but efficient Sam Allardyce. Bilic will have to get up to speed quickly, with player acquisitions and the impending Europa League matches foremost on his mind.
46 year old Bilic played 55 times for Hammers between 1996 and 1997, scoring two goals, before spending three years at Everton. He managed Croatia for six years, beating England twice in the Euro 2008 qualifiers, and has been in charge at Lokomotiv Moscow and Besiktas. He is an intelligent man, a qualified lawyer, and a man used to working in a pressurised environment, however his appointment still represents a risk by Davids Sullivan and Gold.
Apparently part of the new manager's brief is to bring more youth team players through the ranks, his ability to work with young players was very much on display while he was managing Croatia, but the Barclay's Premier League will be a tough place to try and blend the balance of experience and youth.
Hammer's player recruitment will probably go into over drive following Bilic's appointment, and his Croat connection may well prove to be very fruitful.

Hope the weather is a bit better this time ....
New manager to be signed in within 48 hours, whoever it is on bbc sport so I read.
So I was just thinking, I wonder if he has the drawing power to bring in decent players. Apparently he is rated pretty high in France which I know is not the Premier League but the other top managers rate him. If he does get the job would the 2Davids have the balls to put in a cheeky bid for Ibrohimovich or however you spell it. I see on another site that PSG only have 10 million on him so you never know.
Having witnessed a 90 mins of utter boredom from england should we not by the same argument for sam out get rid of hodgson? With so little competitive football for national teams anyway surely it should be a case of good football over result? Discuss.
Now that we're in the market for a new manager I just wonder what sort of figures the owners are talking about for the new man to spend in the transfer market. Realistically we are no more than a midtable side that could still have a bad season and flirt with relegation so surely the aim, as we're trying to attract a top European manager, is to break into the top 6, in my opinion we are a million miles away from this with the current squad, we're basically looking to finish above the likes of Liverpool or Spurs, I would think we need half a dozen top players at least. With this in mind if the reported figure of £25 million pounds transfer kitty is true is this another case of the owners thinking that we're better equipped than we are, that we've been under achieving, I personally think our league position last season was about right, we had a very good start that gave us false hope but with the players we've got we're on a par with Swansea or Stoke so could this be a reason we are struggling to attract a decent manager, what's your thoughts?
It's been a while since Paolo Di Canio entertained us and big rumours suggest SUGO might just be talking to this guy any time soon. I hope so but as with most rumours it's just rumours and nothing else

Enner Valencia may be leaving and we do need another striker!
