Can i just point out to mr Moyes that todays game is not one for bending over and touching your toes!

Bogey side or not lets try something different like putting Ants wide on the right play Ings and Bowen together up front and Benny wide left as the invisibleman is still not fit! Pac and Rice in the middle with Oggy/Aguered/Johnson and Emerson in a flat back four with Areola or Soucek:-) in goal.

Come on David show us you can change i'll start holding my breath! COYI.

Altogether now that includes you Burkie...We've got super errr mmm i think i better go have a lay down.

Th'Ings' Could Have Been So Different!

Ahead of last night's FA Cup game few people have Hammers a chance against Man U at Old Trafford, ultimately the home side prevailed with an immensely flattering score line, but things could have been SO different had the normally immaculate Nayef Aguerd not had an absolute stinker of a night AND Big Mikey Antonio hadn't fluffed his lines on at least TWO separate occasions!

Aguerd's display was a one off that happens to even the top players in rare games, he will be fine for the next game away to 'Bogey' team Brighton & Hove Albion. However, Mikey Antonio's performance wasn't a blip, more like a continuation of a poor run of form stretching back the entire season!

Antonio busts a gut for the club and will always give it his all, but as he will be the first to admit, a striker he is NOT! That was plain to see last night when he could have and should have scored when put clean through on goal with only De Gea to beat, but worse was when he was again bearing down on goal with Said Benrahma running into space square of him and yet he elected to go it alone with a shot from an impossible angle whereas Benrahma would have had a tap in from close range that he would NOT have missed.

For once David Moyes cannot be blamed for the 'Antonio' situation because new signing Danny Ings was cup tied, oh and how he was missed! It is not beyond comprehension to envisage Hammers could have left Manchester as victors if only Ings had been playing, he would have had an absolute field day against the complacent home team.

Hammers could have been at least two up, possibly three before the break, such were the proliferation of chances on offer as Hammers completely dominated the home team. Alas it was not to be, Mikey huffed and puffed until he was replaced by a clearly unfit Bowen and the team played deeper and deeper until it was too late.

Gianlica Scamacca was brought on for the remaining five minutes which saw Hammers concede two goals which gave the final score such a false reading. The Premier fixtures on the same evening proved to be rather good and hopefully if the team can put in a shift like they did last night (errors excluded) there is every chance the club can claw itself away from the bottom of the table and begin to think about next week's 'Con Cup' game in Cyprus. - Ed

Defeatist Moyes Might As Well Not Turn Up!

Ahead of tonight's FA Cup game David Moyes was hardly the man to inspire his troops ahead of them going over the top! "I am hoping we can give them a good game, we have to defend against so many good players in the Premier League," Moyes told the media. "Rashford is one of them and we played them earlier in the season and we were really unfortunate. David de Gea played really, really well to keep them in the game or we could have had a positive result. It was very close in the league, and I am hoping we can give them a good game this time around."

Talk about negative Nancy, the way Moyes was talking was like the beginning of an Autopsy, NOT inspiring his team ahead of a fixture where the opposition might be vulnerable due to winning the Moose Cup at the Weekend and ahead of a crucial Premier League game against bitter rivals Liverpool!

Setting your team up to survive might have been valid when there were replays in the FA Cup, but there aren't replays anymore! Games go to extra time and Pens now, so why play for a draw by being defensive? Moyes might as well go for it, realistically no one expects a Hammers win so why not let his players have the freedom to express themselves, you never know what might happen. - Ed

Fabo Crocked

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Wed, 01/03/2023 - 10:24

Hammers keeper Lukasz Fabianski may require surgery after suffering a fractured cheekbone and eye socket caused by an 'over zealous' tackle from Forest's Jimenez. The 37-year-old Poland international sustained the injury during Saturday's 4-0 win.

At the time of the Injury defender Nayef Aguerd was furious with the Wolves forward for what he saw as an unnecassary follow through of the ball when it was clearly the keeper's!

Manager David Moyes was unsure how long Fabianksi, who has started all 24 Premier League games this season, will be absent for."We don't quite know whether it'll be operated on or heal itself, or a time-span at the moment," Moyes said. French International Alphonse Areola replaced Fabianski after 69 minutes at the weekend and was immediately called into action, producing a string of fine saves. He is set to continue in goal for Wednesday's FA Cup fifth-round tie against Manchester United.

The Irons, who travel to Brighton in their next league match on Saturday, are 16th in the table, only two points above the relegation places. It looks like Areola is set to feature in plenty of games with the Con Cup games following shortly as well as the massively important domestic games which are coming thick and fast.
Areola has been 'champing at the bit' to start as many games as possible INCLUDING all the Premier League games, but as part of the goal keeper's Union would not have wished for his opportunity to come in this way. 'Fabo' is likely to be out for some time, although the full extent of his injury cannot be properly assessed until the swelling around his eye has reduced.

It is however feared the very popular Fabianski could be ruled out for the remainder of the season, not what the club wanted or needed, but at least the silver lining is that Areola IS a top keeper and let's face it, Hammers need one at present! - LN

FA Cup Or FA?

Unfortunately, Hammers always seem to get the 'bums rush' when it comes to fixtures against perennial over spenders and under achievers Manchester United. David Moyes takes his team to the club that sacked him, unfairly in many people's minds, fresh after they have just secured their 1st trophy in SIX YEARS!

So will the Manc's ominous improvement under a 'proper' manager in the form of Erik ten Hag give them the impetus to overcome a West Ham team that was totally bereft of confidence prior to Saturday's much needed win over Forest? The answer is more than likely that the home team will swat their visitors aside as if they didn't exist, especially so if Hammers manager David Moyes goes the 'full dinosaur' and sets his team up so as not to lose!

The Forest game showed what the team CAN DO if given the opportunity, but will Moyes revert to type? Probably, if so be prepared for a Man U gub fest! Moyes has the tools at his disposal, it is to be hoped that he isn't the tool in the equation but don't hold your breath! Premier League survival is ALL he cares about, the Cup means FA to him!- Ed

Moyes' Mind Management

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Mon, 27/02/2023 - 17:57

No the Hammers manager hasn't embarked on a mind advancing programme, or an Estj based getting to know yourself while you are threatened with being thrown off a cliff weekend retreat course! We are discussing whether David Moyes really does need help, he is notoriously stubborn to the point of 'cutting his own nose off to spite his face'!

There is stubborn and there is sheer bloody mindedness, the two bare the same resemblance but are different, however the outcome of having a person 'afflicted' with either trait being in charge of a team of strong willed multi millionaire footballers is almost entirely predictable and NOT good for fans of the relevant club, not it's owners.

In an emergency it is possible to run across the M25 without getting killed or seriously injured, but it doesn't mean a person should attempt it even once, let alone regularly. The game of top flight football has moved on immeasurably in the last millennium, even more so in the last decade. Players rarely get 'frozen out' by managers now, with the obvious exception of Ten Haag and The Preening One, the boot is firmly on the other foot now and it is the players who hold ALL the Aces.

So with that reality in mind, playing players out of position should by now be a practice consigned to the rubbish bin, however certain managers insist on their "it's my way or the highway' philosophy with the consequent loss of form and more importantly to club owners, the player's value. Time and time again David Moyes has chosen to ignore the thousands of voices urging him to pick teams that are capable of playing on the front foot AND where they play in their correct potions. Moyes might have got away with it in the past, but he has become a one trick pony who's trick has been exposed!

What worked a couple of seasons ago clearly doesn't work now, the welcome victory over perennial losers on their travels Forest masks the fact that prior to the match the team had regressed alarmingly, summed up by the utterly insipid and inept performance against Tottingham a fortnight ago.

Small shoots of recovery are beginning to show in the form of Tomas Soucek being 'allowed' further up the pitch with Declan Rice dropping a little deeper, and Moyes actually starting a 'proper' out and out striker! Mikey Antonio has played in every position for the club bar goalkeeper and has been an incredibly loyal performer, but a striker he is NOT! There is no question that he is a goal scorer but he is far more suited to 'bullying' the opposition than being a 'fox in the box', so starting Danny Ings was at last a step forward for Moyes' 'mind expansion'.

With summer signing Gianluca Scamacca now also available David Moyes AT LAST has the option of using Mikey as an impact sub, a role the 32 year old would relish even if he pretends he doesn't. Staring the game WITH an out and out striker is half way to the fans Nirvana wish of having TWO strikers on the field at the same time!

We are not suggesting Moyes has to go gung ho and play two up front all of the time, but surely he knows that the best form of defence his team can have on some occasions is to attack, rather than sit back and waiting to be picked off! -LN

Fear the future

mcbikeman's picture
Submitted by mcbikeman on Mon, 27/02/2023 - 15:37

Ok by some miracle we stay up what then? i am sure i have not been the only one noticing stories like we are interested in this player that player such as......Maguire/McTominay/Bissaka/Smalling the latest all very uninspiring all with a common thread and all most definetly a Moyes kind of player IMO papertalk or not this has to stop.

WE stay up the board have to thank Moyes and get shot of him thats the first thing....secondly no player can be sold until a new manager is installed and then he makes the decision...Thirdly Rice should not be sold(if we are selling!)again until the new manager has found the replacement he wants.....this should prevent the club from being shafted price wise on future signings as there is no money in the Kitty regarding his sale....also the club needs to set the price not the buying club so Arsenal stop trying to buy cheap.

And most important of all is the list of managers that are always muted for every job needs to be binned and a bit more thought given to what the club wants and needs to get us to that much lauded "next level".......Benitez and Co not wanted.

The club are notorious for dragging there feet but all this i hope has already been discussed by those who run the club and if not why not......it is going to be a long summer if we survive if we dont my God it wll be even longer considering the fallout that will cause.

A Light Shone Down

Fans leaving the as yet unnamed London Stadium were greeted with a sumptuous skyline that somehow reflected the mood perfectly, a beautiful rainbow filled the sky on a day when the club's fortunes changed for the good and the late great Bobby Moore's life and achievements were honoured.

There was a special atmosphere despite the club's awful Premier relegation placing and genuine fear of failure. The players, after having paid their respects to 'Sir' Bobby looked as nervous as the Stadium felt, it wasn't for the lack of trying but nothing seemed to be going according to plan, IF there was a plan as many disgruntled fans were murmuring as the game went on.

Starting Danny Ings as a lone striker didn't go down too well, but at least it was a change! If only he had started two he would have earned a lot more of 'an accommodation' from the crowd. Lucas Pacqueta showed glimpses of why the club paid it's record transfer fee for him, but it seemed as if the tin gods were going to do 'that theng' and have a laugh at the home fans expense when Jarrod Bowen's shot hit the post and then the Pacman was denied a goal of the month as his shot came off the woodwork!

Half time came and went with the majority of the 'natives' expressing their disapproval to each other but most importantly NOT to the team, they clearly recognised their team's fragility and didn't want to give the visitors any additional ammunition. As the 60th minute approached all eyes were on the bench as it was approaching 'Moyes time' as he always starts making his substitutions around the 60th minute mark.

Next minute, Lukasz Fabianski had to be substituted because of a head injury and was replaced by Alphonse Aréola. Virtually the first touch of the ball by the French keeper went to Jarrod Bowen who passed to Danny Ings who pinged the ball home. The goal would have come as a great relief to Ings who had missed a sitter early doors, but his confidence clearly grew, because within a couple of minutes Ings scored again! This time he bundled the ball over the line, but they ALL count.

Suddenly the unnamed Stadium was alive and the cherry on top came when Declan Rice curled a beaut into the corner of the net to put his team into an unassailable lead. Ings was brought off and replaced by Big Mikey Antonio who netted himself with a neat header to end his personal goal drought and make the victory resounding!

Incidentally the glut of goals was preceded by the introduction by the visitors of Jesse Lingard and Andre Ayew, both of who were given a raucous reception, particularly Lingard!

Three Points that felt more like FOUR! Se fans will feel the points will merely prolong David Moyes' tenure as manager, but realistically if he can win another five fames the club will be safe, then and only then should his overall position be examined forensically and not emotionally, for now he has an FA Cup 5th round televised game against Manchester United on Wednesday to prepare for, ahead of a crucial Premier League fixture AND a European tie. - Ed
