Baka Topola Bannana Skin Awaits

Hammers begin their Europa Cup campaign this Thursday evening against little known Serbian side FK TSC Bačka Topola, while the name is new to many the club has been around since 1913, so they are hardly novices! This could well be a tricky tie with Hammers expected to 'roll over' teams they meet in the early group stages, but make no mistake TSC as they are more commonly know will be NO pushovers!

Any complacency by the team David Moyes puts out could be severely punished, fans hoping for a goal fest in London might well be disappointed. A firm but comfortable narrow victory is all Hammers need, there is no point in throwing everything at the visitors, especially bearing in mind that Hammers have to play a midweek Moose Cup game against Lincoln swiftly followed by a visit to Anfield to face Liverpool.

Moyes does now have a much more comprehensive squad to select from, the impending fixture will give him the chance to give certain fringe players a run out as wells giving some of the new signings more game time. Moyes will be able to field an 'experimental' side but retain a lot of strength in depth on the bench should they be required.

It will be the beginning of yet another European adventure, the third in three years. it is a pity that David Gold won't be there in person to witness his beloved Hammers fulfilling the "European' dream that he used to talk about. Who knows, perhaps he will be up in the sky looking down through all the bubbles floating upwards? -Ed

Giraffe Time-Toon Want Pacman For £50 Million- Try Triple That!

Submitted by nevillenixon on Sun, 17/09/2023 - 10:23

Newcastle are the latest club to have 'expressed an interest' in acquiring Hammers mercurial midfielder Lucas Paqueta, and the Toon are apparently prepared to offer the princely sum of £50 Million for the Brazilian who signed for Hammers last season in a deal that would be finally worth around £52 Million with add ons!

So why on earth would West Ham even countenance the sale of Paqueta? Well as is common knowledge, EVERY player has his price and Hammers were offered around £80 Million for 'Pacman' before the betting scandal engulfed the deal putting it on hold.

Eddie Howe's Newcastle, supposedly the richest club in the World, would have to match and go a whole heap higher than Citeh's bid to even stand a chance of wresting Paqueta from East London! Sometimes it beggars belief what is 'leaked by agents' or spuriously written in the media, but in this instance who ever 'broke' the story is having a right royal 'Girraffe' at their readers expense.

£50 Million? Double that and Newcastle might stand an even chance, triple it and they could be in with a REAL chance, but valuing Paqueta at Fifty? Someone needs to learn their Maths don't they?

Because Newcastle's original take over by a 'pariah' state that kills journalists continues to be under extremely close scrutiny, there is no way they will be able to get away with ANY FFP shenanigans, meaning they simply CANNOT afford Paqueta.

Newcastle fans deserve their moment of glory having waited so long for it, the fact that their club is financed dubiously won't put them off either. But if they think they can just swoop into London and 'heist' one of the best players in European football for a song, they had better try hosting the Eurovision Song Contest where they would likely have more success! - Ed

At Least Hammers Won A 1/2!

For a brief moment in time on a gloriously sunny day, West Ham managed to put reining Champions Manchester City's nose out of joint! Of course things reverted to type after the interval but boy was it fun while it lasted. City are a behemoth of a team that invariably crush all their opponents asunder, but at least Hammers gave it a good go, especially in the 1st half.

Buoyed up by a vociferous and enthusiastic crowd, the home team surrendered possession but hit City on the break with new signing James Ward-Prowse adding another goal to his already impressive account! As expected, City came out all guns blazing and got their revenge, but no one had really given Hammers a prayer for the game so the disappointment was only to be expected.

Going head to head with the World's top team, at least in the first half, was no mean feat and David Moyes and his players should feel proud of their achievement, at least they didn't just roll over and capitulate like most teams do when facing the Premier League champions.

So although the eventual result was not as many had dreamed of, it was still a great showing bythe Irons and hopefully bodes well for the future. With the new signings yet to fully make their mark there are indeed reasons to be cheerful, the gulf in class might still have been obvious, but it was a far better showing than some of the past drubbings administered by Pep's team when battering previous Hammers line ups, particularly when Pellegrini was manager.

The next Premier League fixture is away to Liverpool which is always an awkward proposition, but on this showing you never know! Fortunes are always hiding, but sometimes it CAN be found! - Ed

Blah, Blah, Blah! Lingard Bore

There is boring and then there is VERY boring, well very boring is hardly enough to describe the long running 'will he or won't he?' Jesse Lingard to West Ham transfer saga. Fans and those associated with the club have become 'sick as a parrot' with the on off transfer which initially goes back to when the player returned to his parent club Manchester United following an incredibly successful loan spell that saw the midfelder called back into the full England Squad.

Eventually Lingard elected to stay in Manchester AND 'FIGHT FOR HIS PLACE' which didn't turn out the way he planned. He then was offered another shot at playing for the Irons, this time on a permanent basis but instead chose to sign for newly promoted Forest for what turned out to be a disastrous season.

Forest bounced him at the end of the year because of his totally ineffectual performances and since then he has been without a club, despite 'interest' from various parties. The fact is Lingard is a busted flush who might have the odd good game left in him but is a shadow of the player who arrived on loan two years ago.

As we have previously mentioned, there is NO room at West Ham for past it 'big time' Charlies. The club's generosity in allowing Lingard to train should never have been mistaken for an intent to sign the player, merely a gesture of goodwill that was widely and inaccurately reported by the media.

Most people would wish Lingard good luck, but NOT at West Ham! On your bike son..Ed

Opinion-Time For Irons To 'Man' Up?

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Fri, 15/09/2023 - 18:54

Hammers host arguably the best team in World club football managed by the probably the best manager in existence tomorrow in London with few people giving the home team a prayer against the imperious 'Citizens'. On paper that assumption is correct and it is very likely the Irons will lose their unbeaten status in the Premier League.

That said, the 'gulf' between both teams HAS narrowed since the days when ex-City manager Manuel Pellegrini managed the Irons, then a three, four or five nil drubbing was the usual outcome! However, while tomorrow's game is still likely to end in defeat for David Moyes' team, the margin may well not be as marked as before.

Players like Lucas Paqueta, Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus have NOT been mesmerised and down trodden by City repeatedly, unlike many of the 'old hands' at the club. While they acknowledge City's stunning squad, they are NOT overawed by taking on Manchester's best team, in fact they relish being up against 'top' opposition and look forward to matching up with their opponents.

Back in the day many teams were defeated before they even took to the pitch when facing Liverpool or Manchester United in their pomp, but that has ALL changed now due to the funding available for 'lesser' teams to compete in the transfer market.

Make no mistake, it will be an incredibly difficult ask for WEst Ham to get anything out of tomorrow's game, but that doesn't mean that they can't give it a damn good try! Urged on by what will be a packed Stadium there is every possibility of upsetting City's imperious form, after all, Football is played on grass, not paper.

Of course on paper City definitely have the edge, but they are vulnerable SOMETIMES, it is to be hoped that Hammers can upset the apple cart and at least get a point from the game. There are enough talented players in Moyes' squad to do some damage, IF they are all firing on ALL cylinders.

Danny Ings shouldn't feature at all, as his chronic lack of pace will be exposed, the same goes for Aaron Cresswell. Divin Mubama and Mohammed Kudus MUST be on the pitch ahead of Ings, it is the ONLY way Hammers stand a chance! Moyes has to be brave AND innovative in his team selection AND his use of substitutes, no longer does he need to have two goal keepers on the bench, there are plenty of hungry and determined players available now who can't wait to get on the field of play.

Be bold Moysie, there is absolutely NO point in handing ALL the possession to City like in the games against Brighton and Chelsea, it simply will NOT work. The Hammers manager needs to 'mix things up' a little for his team to stand any chance....as the game is considered to be a 'dead rubber' why not take a few risks?

At least he can say he tried! - Ed

L(in)gard Or Out?

Hammers have until lunchtime today to confirm their full squad to the various footballing authorities, one name that will either be there or not will be that of Jesse Lingard. The lingard to West Ham 'transfer' has been an on off soap opera that could rival Eastenders with the complexity of its storyline.

Every episode of the Lingard saga seems like it should end with the familiar 'dum, dum, dum" Sound track of the long running BBC soap, some say the club's 'romantic pursuit' of Lingard has been dumb, dumb, dumb! Well it seems we will finally find out "who dun what to who?" in the next few hours bringing to conclusion a transfer cliff hanger.

Of course had there not been an international break Lingard's will he or won't he stance would have garnered far few column inches, but as it is it has provided some useful 'filler' before the real football starts again this weekend!

Fans are still divided as to whether they want the ex-Forest and United player back in the fold, few doubt his abilities, but many question if his attitude is correct or if he would de-stabilise a dressing room that is currently buzzing. There is definitely NO ROOM for a big time Charlie wearing £150,000 watches going into training.

Fortunately ALL the ifs and buts WILL get resolved today come what may, so either Lings will be in or out by the end of the day....fortunes always hiding, it is just question of finding it at the right time. - Ed (touching down at Heathrow shortly)

Who Put The LSD In Moyes's Tea?

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Wed, 13/09/2023 - 06:39

Having witnessed Harry 'Mc'Guire' scoring Scotland's only goal in their 3-1 defeat by England, many fans who hadn't already asked the question "why on earth were Hammers pursuing the signing of the Manchester United ex-captain?" will now have had there answer!

It was plain for all to see just how awful Maguire is as a defender, clearly devoid of confidence the 30 year old failed to perform on the one platform where he HAD excelled, namely playing for a supportive manager in the form of England's Gareth Southgate who is known for the loyalty he shows players that have performed for him in the past.

Last night Maguire's performance 'stank the house out' from which there can surely be no return, either internationally, nor if Ten Hag has anything to do with it, domestically. Seeing Konstantinos Mitraponis's performance for Greece, the player Hammers snapped up instead of Maguire compared to the latter's performance for England was like chalk and cheese!

Hammers clearly dodged a bullet by NOT paying out an eye watering £30 Million for a 30 year old on a massive £130,000 per week who's form had dropped off the cliff and who would clearly have absolutely NO SELL ON value at the end of the three year contract offer that was apparently on the table!

Fortunately the players desire to NOT relinquish the remainder of his £300,000 per week contract (including his mandatory Champions League wage increase he was awarded) meant the deal didn't go through, hallelujah!

However we have to return to the question as tio why Maguire was targeted in the first place, or should we say 'Taggarted!" The answer does look a bit like a 'Scottish Detective' plot line, "who put the LSD in to the football manager's cup of tea?"

What else could explain the Hammers manager's almost psychotic pursuit of Maguire from the club that sacked David Moyes after he took over from Sir Alex Ferguson? If word is to believed, not only was Moyes to spend a third of the Declan Rice money onMaguire, but he was also willing to make him among the club's biggest earners AND hand him the captaincy!

Well, either Moyes had completely lost his marbles, gone temporarily insane or been slipped something very psychedelic in his tea! Perhaps when Tim Steidten arrived he recognised something in Moyes that was a 'bit off' and therefore decided he needed placating, so he fed him the James Ward-Prowse signing because he could see some value in it, but stonewalled the Maguire madness.

As the effects of whatever had been 'influencing' Moyes' poor judgement wore off he was able to sit down and rationally discuss transfer targets, the bulk of which eventually arrived just in the nick of time. Hammers and Moyes dodged the equivalent to a uranium depleted bullet by NOT signing Maguire....just be careful who you accept a nice cuppa from in the future Mr Moyes if it has come from ANY source connected with Manchester United! - Ed (posted on return journey from NY)
